Official 390 E.C. Thread

Anyone know what size shaft packing I need and what length per side?
I purged the 1/4” GLO packing that worked perfect and I now have zero dripping! I bought a 3 foot long section on amazon for about $35

Purchased....not purged....stupid phone

how much did you need per side?

Your shaft should be 1 1/2”.
3’ is plenty with a little extra to put away just in case. I put 3 rounds in each shaft and went back at tighten after about 30 minutes of running.

GFO Packing and it was on EBay, not Amazon. Sry I keep making mistakes. I need to pay more attention.

hi my follow 39er lost my swim platform insert dose any one know were I can fine a good use one at

I bought a bunch of 1" x 2" pine boards from Home Depot; glued and compressed, and then planed them down. Couple of coats of polyurethane and they look and perform great. Every couple of years, I plane and re-polyurethane them. Worked great for 10 years.

I’m looking to put in a new GPS/ FishFinder combo. In my former smaller vessel I had a Raymarine Dragonfly 5...it was ok but not very simple on the bottom finder side. I fish in the Gulf in up to 150’ of water and then return for Fall and winter to shallower fresh water on the Tennessee River. Any suggestions from anyone?

Does anyone know if there is a diesel fuel cut off valve for the generator on the 390 EC and if so, where it is located? (1988)
Thanks in advance.

I am looking into a 1989 390EC with Cats. Any comments on what to look for in regards to hull integrity? I presently have an 85” CC 360 Commander with huge hollow box glass stringers. Are the 390s well built?
Thanks

Greetings!

This is a lonnnng overdue thank you to all of the members here who shared their knowledge over the years with the group. I fell in love with the 390 a few years ago, for the classic styling, the roominess (I'm tall), and the sheer value. I painstakingly read EVERY post in this forum - and took many sidetrips to other sites after learning of them here - and the wealth of information was instrumental in finding the right boat for me and for my family. I purchased ours in the Spring of 2019 and have been enjoying her ever since. I cannot tell you how often I returned to bookmarked posts to re-read content that I KNEW would come in handy one day.

Finally, it seems to me that the apparent exodus to facebook was a turn for the worse, content-wise, and hold out hope that this forum will someday return to it's former level of activity. I'll be around.

Thank you all again.
Congratulations on your purchase and hope it is going well. I fully agree regarding the exodus to Facebook. I hope many of the former contributors come back as the knowledge base was superior.

Hello, all - I'm a new member here. I am currently awaiting a survey on a 1990 390 EC (it's scheduled for 2 days from now). I've been crawling thru all the posts here (it's a remarkably thorough resource - thanks) and summarizing items of potential future interest. The one thing that has me concerned is the overwhelming volume of discussions about leaks that occur from the top of windshield to the bottom of the potable water tank.

MY QUESTION IS
: During the 390 series run, did any of these problems get addressed/corrected? I know there were two major updates - in 1986 and again in 1988 according to Powerboat Guide. Does anyone have a summary of what the changes were that were made in the two updates?

Thanks again to any help here and to all those who have contributed to this thread over the years.

Looking for the Gas fuel filters that are on the side of the fuel tanks. They are for the Generator and engine. Starboard side. Have anyone of you changed them. Need the numbers for them.

Wish I could help you on this one but not sure. I do see you have the same boat I have a 1988 390 EC so I thought I would ask you. I have MerCruiser 7.4 Litre, 310 HP engines in them and having trouble with the neutral safety switch. I have to "jiggle" the shifters to get the motors to start. Its getting harder to do this. I cannot find a manual or any information on where the switch is located and where I might get parts. Can you help?

Thanks!
