Official 390 E.C. Thread

I also did not have a key when I bought my 390 3 years ago. I removed the lock (not difficult) and dropped it off at Granite Lock in Quincy, Mass. 2 weeks later he called and said he was able to make a key for it. I said great please make an extra and I did not ask how much this was going to cost. 3 days later I stopped by to pick up the lock and 2 keys and was shocked when he told me how much. He said it was expensive, twenty five bucks for both keys. I shock his hand and gave nim $50 cash and told him to take his wife out to dinner. Just one of those rare cases when customer service came way before money. :smt001 Finding a replacement lock is almost impossible.

On my 86 390, the key has a number stamped on it. I went to my local Sea Ray Dealer, Parts dept. He brought out a box of keys and we found several keys with the same number. That was it; same number, same key. I bought 5.

Aces - great idea on the butyl tape. I was planning to use that to bed the acrylic back into the frames instead of the foam. How long ago did you put the butyl in and has it proved to be water tight? Also, what did you do to seal the center acrylic piece where the sides meet the frame and the top/bottom go into the frame but don't have a "seal"?
i used butyl tape on the window frame to bed the acrylic as well then a new outer rubber glazing from Taylor. As far as the center piece i used more butyl tape there . I cut pieces to fill in the empty space then slide the center acrylic back in. that center piece doesn't do anything except astetics. i just did this a few weeks ago boats under wrap for the winter. I have a 65' offshore lobster boat that has nothing but butyl tape for window sealant and theres no leaks from those windows in 17 years.. I swear by that stuff.
I am redoing my side windows this winter, I do not need to remove the frames as they are rock solid and not my problem. I see that both of you guys removed the acrylic and re-bedded behind the acrylic with butyl tape and then installed new Taylor trim on the out side, did you use any type of sealant on the front side of the acrylic when you installed the new Taylor glazing?

The problem with not removing the frames is getting the acrylic part out. The way it is installed, the frame captures the top and bottom in a U shaped track, but the sides just but the vertical frame pieces. I had to remove the entire frame to properly get the acrylic part out. When I reinstalled, I rolled and flattened out some butyl tape and bedded the acrylic in that. After installing, I noticed there was still some "movement" of the acrylic piece, possibly allowing water to pass. I taped off the acrylic and the frame and used some Life Seal black in the joint between the acrylic and the aluminum frame to keep water out. Hindsight, I think I would make my own custom "channel" out of aluminum U channel and install around the vertical portion of the acrylic frame if I did it again.

Wow...I will have to take a closer look at the windows, I have removed the old rubber and cleaned out most of the loose butyl, I noticed that the acrylic was a little loose on the ends and it seemed to come back a ways on the top and bottom also, if it is the way you describe I might try and come up with a way to seal and secure the acrylic without taking it out. After you put in the Life Seal did you let it cure before installing the rubber? Thanks for the info! do you have any pictures of the bare frame?

I did exactly that when I removed and reinstalled my window frames a few years ago.

Emie ... sorry, I haven't been on for a while. I got my keys from my local sea ray dealer parts department, MarineMax.

Where has everyone on this thread disappeared to? This used to be one of the most active threads on CSR and has completely died of in the last 6-8 months. I hope not all have converted to the Facebook page?! It is fine, but not nearly as useful or full of experienced hands as this thread is. Please come back!

We sold our 390 back in August and am on the prowl for something larger. Since Sea Ray scrapped the L Series, my interests have been shifted elsewhere. No rush just yet, but I hope to pull the trigger in the spring of this year. In the meantime, I am on CSR daily and am keeping an eye on the 390 thread as I started it several years ago. If I end up buying another brand, there is still a wealth of knowledge on this site for diesel engines, etc. that are common to more than one brand of yacht.

I am not sure what you are trying to describe here. Pics would be great.

I used a spade bit in the drill, took one bit and welded a piece of metal on it, about 2 inches long welded across the bit.
