OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

Hello all, new member here! Just closed on a 2005 in like new condition. Broker and surveyor rated it a 10. Must do list... Change out a hose! LOL engine hours 156, gasser. Engine survey, traveled tip top. Bilge tight no leaks, cockpit ac, washer/drier, full electronics. Carpet looks new. Ice maker needs some work and in the process of fixing it. Question... Does anyone know what bulb type is in the salon overhead. I want to go led. The cockpit will have 2 pure white led and 4 blue led. Those are 1142. But I need salon over head style and cockpit floor courtesy lamps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Salon overhead bulbs are G4's. A good source is marinebeam.com which specializes in boat LED needs. Good customer service and used to offer a Club Searay discount. If you haven't already discovered this, be careful when you take the light fixtures out of the overhead, strong springs hold them in place that will rap your knuckles if you're not careful.

It was SeaDek Storm Grey over Black in my case. The bill installed came to just shy of $3,100 I do have an extended platform which doubled the amount of area.
Hope that helps,
Ken

Hey everybody, I bought my 2005 390 MY earlier this month on Long Island. My wife and I brought it to Chesapeake Bay, with overnight stays at Beach Haven, NJ, and Cape May. We have been enjoying it. Love those Cummins engines!

Like any used boat, there are several things that need fixing or replacement. Most of it is obvious, but I thought a quick post here would be worthwhile since a lot of you folks have seen the same issues.

Coffeemaker - the seller performed the ol' switcheroo on me, removing the Black & Decker coffee maker and putting a used Keurig machine in its place. Can you believe it? That Keurig is going in the trash. I would like to get a coffeemaker similar to what Sea Ray installed. My previous boat was a 2002 Wellcraft that had the same sort of B&D Spacemaker coffeemaker, and I really liked it. The problem is B&D doesn't seem to make that kind of machine any longer. Does anyone know of a good replacement to fit in that galley cabinet? Or should I just buy a used B&D on Ebay?

VHF radio - Mine came with the Raymarine 240 VHF, seems like a good one. I'm trying to contact the seller to release the MMSI number to me, but if that doesn't work it looks like I'll need to dismount the transceiver and ship it to Raymarine to be deprogrammed. Has anybody done that before? How difficult and costly is it?

FINALLY!

We closed on the boat today! The process took longer than I had anticipated (we were originally supposed to close 2 1/2 weeks ago) but everything worked out for the best. We negotiated a very fair price, including concessions for needed some repairs and maintenance. The boat was at, and is staying at, the marina that we wanted. And it has some key features that other the other 390MY on the market locally did not have (diesel, bow thruster, extended hydraulic swim platform, and included a dinghy with outboard).

I am happy to officially be part of the Sea Ray and the 390MY family!

Congratulations! We love our 390 MY!

Has anyone mounted a Magma (or similar style) grill on their 390/40 MY?

We were on our friend's catamaran for a week, and they had one of the rectangular style Magma grills mounted on a rail at the back of the boat. We used the grill to cook some of the fish we caught, and needless to say, the Admiral has decided we need one.

Due to the unique design of the 390/40 MY, we are struggling to find the best mounting location. I'd love to hear if anyone has done this, how and where you mounted the grill, and if you have a picture, that would be great too.

Thanks in advance.

We mounted off one of the rails on the bow. I originally had it over the side but have relocated it over the cabin, since all the heat rises the deck below doesn't even get warm.

When I bought mine the previous owner had a round grill mounted to the port side grab rail at the stern. I've removed and not reinstalled the grill, but it seems like a good place for it. Here's a pic the previous owner used to advertise it:

Just a little insight from a Magma owner....I would be mindful mounting it "over" part of the boat. Depending on what you are cooking, grease will occasionally drip onto whatever is under the grill. It does not hurt anything, but can give you something else to clean...Mine is mounted on my swim platform and things like steak, hamburgers, or anything greasy will also cause some grease to spatter.

Just my $0.02.

Hi Bennett,

Quick question...how do you have it mounted? Did you put it on a pedestal mount?

Thanks in advance.

Yes sir. It is mounted on the end of my swim platform opposite of the swim ladder. Other than the grease thing, and that is not a huge deal, it is an easy keeper. I can put it in the "floor mounted socket" when we hit the water and it stays there until we get ready to come home-a day or a week. Rain nor anything else seems to phase it. I would rather have it back there so there is no risk of grease on the carpet or anything else difficult to clean. It does seem to get very hot even on the lowest setting. Magma does make 3-different gas valves-low, med, and high. I mounted a thermometer in the lid so I can watch the temp.

Has anyone tried to install one of the Kenyon electric grills in the cockpit over the fridge? I have seen these on all the newer boats, and they look great. I have had Magma grills on all my other boats and will probably get one of those for my 390 if that is the only option, but it seems the wetbar is a perfect place for an electric grill. I just did know if there was clearance over the fridge, which I believe needs to be 4 or 5 inches.
I also have seen that Magma makes a small electric grill that could possibly be put in that location as well and wouldn't reguire cutting into the top. Not as slick an installation, but still maybe an option. Otherwise, probably going for the Magma gas on the swim platform.
Thoughts?

I considered a counter top Kenyon once and then saw a Fomula 470 with one mounted on their bridge. The grease and smoke all over the ceiling convinced me I would never put a grill under our hard top. I believe the best place is on the swim deck.

Hadn't thought of that! Thanks for the insight!

Does anyone have a source for the original hi low salon table for a 40MY? Just bought this boat and the table an ottomans are not on board. Seems like a good option to have in place of a no dinette.

I havn't seen a set for sale in a while. Last set I saw was ~$4k, it is a nice unit but I couldn't get over the price!

Yeah, I figured not cheap. Sounds like foldable teak tables to me. Otherwise Goodalemarine's wood top and adjustable pedestal.

Guys, this is my first upcoming winter with the 390 MY. I have always winterized the fresh water systems and heads myself, but never had a boat with the manifold system. Any tips on winterizing the freshwater, or is it treated the same as any other system, basically ignoring the manifold and pumping the pink stuff though the entire system? Has anyone devised a good system for accessing the hot water tank easier? (i.e. an access port from up above under the settee in the salon?) Any thoughts appreciated!
Rob
