Official 380 Thread

We are usually in very calm water, very sandy bottoms. Drop the anchor and 20-30' of line, walk the boat back into the shallow water, throw a small stern anchor off the back to keep it in place. I was in some crazy shallow water with my 290 last year (outdrives up) and realize those days are long gone. If I could get into 48" of water I'd be happy knowing I've got 8" of clearance, that my 9 year old can touch easy and my 7yo (52" tall) could touch enough to be safer than he would in 5 or 6 ft of water. They are both good swimmers, and of course we don't leave them unattended, but I'm a nervous nelly nonetheless and that peace of mind helps. Plus I'd like to raft with our friends who have 320s and 340s one day soon!

You posting that you'd be comfortable with 8" of water under the boat gives me anxiety...and I don't even boat with you :)

Sea Ray does indeed say a 2000 would be 44" draft. Being precise enough backing a boat this size into the beach seems nearly impossible. You'd never hit that 8" you are shooting for...nor the 4" you really want. And you will not be walking a 19,000lbs boat up on anchor :)

Get the boys some better life jackets and worry less about them swimming, more about the undercarriage of your beautiful 380 parked 4" off the bottom!!!

Thats how i am, if i get to 10' deep, i am nervous....
My 360's draft is 39" but in the Great South Bay on the South Shore of Long Island where we boat you would never get out waiting for 10'. The water is extra low this year but at low tide last week my new Garmin was showing 4' of water in the middle of the channel but we never have more than 7' to 8' in a good portion of the waterways we frequent. That being said we anchor in the coves with 10' plus of water and not by the beach.

We are on the Canadian side of St clair and Anchor out almost every weekend, water levels are similar to Muscamoot Bay but as of right now its deep everywhere.

Got a call from the Harbormaster yesterday. Had no power and breaker would not stay on. Pedestal end look OK and there was power at the outlet. We were going to check the end of the cord when I discovered this:

Trying to figure out why this happened.

The only thing I can think of is some water ran down the cord into the connection. There are locking rings but no barrel to keep out water.

I am running up to West Marine (as they have a sale, otherwise anywhere else) to get a new cord and Y cord.

I could just replace the plugs but they would not be molded in for water proofing.

Update: I am going to replace the plug and receptacle AND add the Sealing Collar that was the missing component. I also am getting a new cord...they are not that much and I will have a spare.

So the Starboard bank was run all the way down because of the fridges.

Now I have A/C and charging with the new cord and repaired Y connector with good boots for keeping moisture out.

But the Starboard side has no voltage...ideas?

Thanks!

Did the switch/disconnect in the lazarette get turned off (right above the shore power receptacle)

I figured it out...the batteries were so low the charger would not kick in. We jumped it and got the charger operating.

So now, just as things are charged up, we lost power at the dock. There are 12 boats with no shore power. New docks...so the builder it out today.

Good idea on the switches in the lazarette...!

So the FNG on the dock was the problem with the end of the dock power being out. Our new docks have the code required Arc Fault breakers and sure enough this guy had a bad ground.

We are going to institute a new policy to have boats checked for electrical issues before they can get a slip. The bad grounds do not trip a regular breaker.

Hi I’m looking to purchase a 380 DA, just wondering if I can get any input and the running attitude of the boat ,does it come up on plane without the trim tabs , do you need the trim tabs to push the nose down one up on plane ? Is there anything I should look for while looking through this boat I will get a survey or but I want to see what if there’s anything special I should look at or anything special about how the boat runs

Looking at your current boat and previous boat, what year are you looking for?

We have a 99 380, has 7.4L horizons we never use the tabs for getting on plane.

I think I set them for bow rise and barely ever touch them. Except for waves and wind.

We run with a 08 40 Dancer with 8.1 HO and he has a hard time keeping up.

Cheers

Yes I had an 06 400 with the hardtop 8.1 420 horse HO well came up and played great with no tabs but looks straight up to the sky couldn’t see over the window at all when I ran the boat up to 3800 RPM the bottle came down some then I had a tablet to get it low enough so I did not run over any Sea-Doo’s , jet ski’s and small boats in front of me
I guess that running out of tune is typical of Sea Ray because the way they configure the fuel tanks and weighed in the Stern. My 03-07 340 , what is a heck of a boat the only one I know that Seaway put the fuel tanks in a water tank straight across the bulkhead in the center of the boat so it was well balanced I guess that’s the price I pay for moving up LOL

I use my tabs to fine tune my performance. I initially thought if you lift the tabs out of the water, the removed drag would make the boat go a little faster. I did not find that to be the case. Starting from the tabs being all the way up, I slowly lowered them and watched my GPS speed and was able to squeeze out another 1.3 kts. Sometimes when we have a strong crosswind, I will use the tabs to deflect the spray away from the boat.

As far as getting up on plane, my 02 380DA pops up on plane with 10 people on board and a full tanks of fuel...maybe 3 seconds.

So my suggestion to you would be to play around with them, take some notes and find the best settings for the sea state you are running in. The settings will change if you go from flat seas to choppy seas.

Good luck,
Vince

What size flat screen TV would be a nice looking aesthetically I pleasing size to put over the refrigerator in the salon, also I believe 24 inch would be a good size for the forward state room and a recommendation for brands of smart TVs

Also for those that have the 454, 380 hp Horizon motors that do not have smart craft , my boat does not have auto pilot I do have the Ray Marine E 97 touchscreen with radar but I really would like to have a rudder angle indicator. has anybody replace the original Tri data with a new ray i70 Multi function display , I do know I have to put the sending unit for the tudder angle indicator in but if I swap out displays well I still get my other original readings, speed , depth, time

Anchor locker wash down hose?

has anyone added one to their 380? Be nice to have 10’ of hose and a nozzle to spray the front down. I know it was a factory option, just curious of routing and what you used, like/dislike etc....

thank you!
Chris
