Official 380 Thread

So I want to upgrade the stereo. I'm really just wanting a modern stereo with Bluetooth and aux input capability. The stock Clarion has a single disc plus there's a 6 disk magazine and a remote on the helm. I was wondering if I could upgrade without replacing the cable to the remote? Reason I'm asking here is because you guys are so knowledgeable and I'm sure someone has done this without spending major $. I'll probably upgrade the speakers and amps eventually but for now I want to be able to stream music instead of playing CD's. Any and all recommendations are welcome! Thanks!

Erik...my original Clarion was updated to a newer clarion. I don't have the model ... but It has 2 aux ins, no bluetooth and a wireless remote. The do make an adapter for the remote cable, but I never bothered with it.

I don't know why I never saw your reply. I'm probably going to get an audio company to look at it and see what my options are then go from there. That may be an inexpensive way to find out what my options are.

While working on some spring projects, I've had to pull the power on CO alarm since it is going off constantly. BTW, this is with hatches open and no engines running.
Just wondering if anyone has found a better replacement?

On my previous boat I had replaced my old hardwired CO detector with a battery op one (like we all have at home). This may be blaspheme to the purists. But the thing worked. That boat had big-time station wagon effect so if I ran without the forward hatch open at idle speed with a following wind, it would go off.

I haven't noticed the running issue, but I was thinking along the same lines. Home unit, Nest, etc. I'm sure it would be cheaper...

My understanding is that these things have a finite lifespan and need to be replaced. If it's original, it's pretty darn old and may just be malfunctioning. Get one from HD and keep it onboard and see if it activates.

Guys, any idea on how to remove the rear 2 screws to get the coffee maker out of cabinet? Also, there must be a plug back there... Easy access? Thanks

No I was messing with the same thing (removing coffee maker) this past weekend. On our 2003 the coffee maker has a hard wire going out the back of it but I could not find where it led to. It is mounted on a wood shelf which has three screws in it that secures it to the cabinet. Then there are four more screws you have to remove but I could only get out the first two in front. I suppose I could cut the wire but it seems like it should be easier than that...

I saw on Wholesale Marin that Sealand has two different holding tank filters - one is pn 309310002 and one is pn 309310001 - does anyone know which one is used on a 2003 Sundancer 380? Thanks.

I may be drilling into the swim platform for a pedalstal grill mount. Is there any wood in the thin part? I know there are some joist looking beams going forward to aft but there are places that the platform is only about an 1'' thick. Was wondering about sealing if there is any wood before I install the bolts. I bought some 4200 (just in case), all stainless 1/4 20's, nylon nuts and fender washers.

Hi Erik,

Our boats are close - the 410's swim platform is solid, but the fore and aft "joists" (stringers) are wood cored for strength...

From memory the 0001 is the vent filter only and the 0002 is the vent filter and plastic bracket.

Hello All. I am thinking of making the jump from a 2003 340 to a 2006 380. I would appreciate any info on the 380 that I might look for. Do's/Don'ts/pep peeves/service bulletins, etc. This site, as you know, is a wealth of info and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks

Probably make sure the transom door isn't cracked and closes properly - other than that I can't think of any specific issues.

This size boat is in the crossover where diesel propulsion would be better if your going to be travelling longer distances often. The 8.1's run fine in this size albeit thirsty - just the nature of the beast when combined with a 21 degree deadrise in a boat of this size.

Accordingly, if you were wanting to travel longer distances I would suggest going up the next size or two where diesels would be more plentiful provided of course the cost v benefit works for you in regards to affordability.

Good luck.

Thank you Juggernaut1. I was thinking about diesels in a sedan bridge. For me, I know these motors as they are in my 340. Diesels, while more efficient and probably stronger, have "a lot going on" that would require a huge learning curve for me. And I rely on a mechanic for a lot of things, and diesel mechanics are big $$$. At any rate, most of our traveling is local except for a couple of overnighters which are 3-4 hours away. Seems like your happy with the boat overall. If you or anyone else can think of anything, I all ears.
Thanks!

Just my $.02 but I always felt that the center transom entry on the "newer" 380 broke up the seating/conversation area too much. I think that the "older" 380 (yes I'm biased) as well as the '05 390 has a much better layout. Again just my 2 cents!! Good luck with your search. Tim
