Does anyone know what the max pressure replacement pump would be for the fresh water system?
The new Shurflo I just installed is rated at :
  • Shut Off Pressure: 55 PSI [3.8 BAR]

Worked with TJ from boat outfitters and ordered 4 each of 1037 truck rollers and the 1038 ones as well. I'm hoping they are the right ones, he's fairly confident they are but there's two others as well. He was amazing to work with, and gave me free shipping.
They were the correct ones, door is working now :)

Service guy did this one for me. He said the doors are slightly warped so he added some washers to the rollers to correct it.

Congrats, and good luck. Kent Island here for a little longer.
Did you have Shore Power do the work on your engines?
I need a 1000 hour service on the starboard 3116 engine and general maintenance on both. Also have a wiring issue with the Westerbeke generator.
The boat will be in North East, MD so not sure if Shore Power goes up that far. Any suggestions?

Shore Power quoted $18,000 I think to do the 1,000 hours service as part of the presale engine surveys. They have a great reputation. Carter came in even higher. Shore Power tried to scare the previous buyer into not using the boat until the work was done. Read the 3116/3126 thread here starting sometime in January for some of my history, it should help you out.

I found two local diesel mechanics in that area who can do it, but both have ghosted me. @SeaNile referred me to one this week, who I've talked to on the phone, who has already got a date scheduled to do the work. I'm going to do some of the work myself. His name is Chris, I think he's actually closer to you. See my thread about zero for two on diesel mechanics in the area.

I found an amazing resource for non-engine work as well if you want a referral.

Thanks! Located Chris Jones' info on your thread and just left him a message. He has a Delaware number and is listed as being in Chesapeake City, which is very much closer to me than you.

I'll take any referrals you have.

T&S Marine down in Crisfield MD (Eastern shore) come highly recommended. They're not on the water but supposedly have a dockside capability to pull engines. Their number is (410) 968-2970. The original plan was to get the boat reliably running for the summer, then pull the engines in the fall. One needs new engine mounts and it would give me the opportunity to clean and paint the engine bay. May still do that if I can get local service.

Is this a recent purchase?

Yes. Equal amount of drama as you had. Luckily was able to leverage wife to 'motivate' the reluctant husband to sell.
Boat is currently in St Pete FL, to be trucked north this coming week to North East, MD.
Plan is to get the engines, trans and Westerbeke generator serviced to make it through the summer. Will also need new shaft seals.
In the fall, plan to pull both engines and generator. Engines will got to T&S Marine in Crisfield MD for refurbish, clean up any corrosion and paint. Will replace engine mounts, clean and paint the entire engine bay.

WOW. What are they doing for $18k? I did the 1000 hour service on my Yanmars and its was about $3k

Yeah, this was a tough one to understand. CAT dealer came in even higher. There was a little more to do than the 1000 hour service, but not a lot more in my opinion. Overall consensus from the site and talking to 3 diesel mechanics is it can all wait, use the boat, enjoy it. Get to it over the next 3-6 months.

Previous buyer walked because Shore Power told him absolutely do not use the boat until all of the service was completed, no cruises, nothing.

I tried to get Shore Power to break the work down into smaller units of work so I could do some on my own and they could do some. They would not. They finally agreed to "Phases" And I misspoke, it was $16,000.

Phase 1 your brother in law could do with you. If it's not getting hot then it can wait until you get back home.
Phase 2 you want that done. $1850
The expansion tank, synchronizer, fuel primer pump, dipstick, exhaust bypass hoses & generator siphon hoses can wait until your brother in law helps with that.
The 1000 hour valve and injector adjustments you want done. Replace the belts & thermostats and system cooling hoses $1500.
That comes to $3350 before tax, which is what I though it should be.

And thanks for posting the estimate. Now I have something to go by for a quote from them.

RE: 8.1 Engine Overhaul

As our beloved 380’s get older, we are all faced with the choices of doing proactive maintenance to extend the lives of our engines. I have done a ton of upgrades to my 380 from flooring to electronics and very up to date on all of the regular maintenance. But it has left me thinking lately on what are others doing to extend the lives of the engines especially as many of us approaching 1000 hours or more.

I took it out last weekend, first trip after launching and had it going 37 mph at WOT with the port maxing at 4540 RPM and the starboard maxing at 4480 RPMs both engines at 156 degrees. This had me thinking that the 8.1’s are really running well and I should extend this proactively. Upon my research, I stumbled on a lot of post from Rayler whom is an expert in the 8.1’s and has built a company on after market parts. He suggests in many posts that to extend the live on the 8.1’s one should overhaul by doing a head, valve job and guides. Has anyone else taken this type of advice? If so at what hours or did you wait for there to be an issue? I would like to get 2k hours and another 10-15 years on my 2001 380 if possible?

I am a 180 hours from a 1000 but getting an overhaul service, I should likely plan for now considering on how difficult it is to get service in my area.

My advise, if it ain't broke don't fix it :) Those #'s look great to me. Keep doing what you are doing.

To me the heads/valves are a when needed if symptoms indicate. Note, I am not a mechanic though, I just play one on here. If you want to do it it's pretty straight forward: pull the heads, send out to a shop (NAPA for example), reinstall heads.

Fortunately the brother-in-law can and wants to help me with all of it. My initial concern was Shore Power telling the previous buyer "don't leave the dock until you do all of this work" because I have an 8 hour cruise, 2+ on open water, to get her home. The good folks hear talked me off the ledge, as did 3 reputable diesel mechanics.

I was trying to get the after coolers done before I left since diesel mechanic availability at home port is limited.

BTW, Chris is the only 1 of the 3 who gave me the dates he can do the work and spent time with me on the phone, and then followed up. He even offered to drive down to VA once I get the boat moved.

Boat yard tells me today they can't take the boat on Friday. Already scheduled for pickup Wednesday. More $$ for a weekend layover.
