Official 370 Express Cruiser Thread (1997-2000)

hey guys, has anyone had to replace the o ring on the trim tab piston. Trying to get the exact type of piston or tab it is, looking up the part number form sea ray has been met with negative results. I just have a leak out of the bottom of the port side piston that i noticed must have been slowly leaking over the winter storage.

Guys, haven't posted much on the site (maybe not at all) but have read a ton and this group has good knowledge of their boats. I have a 1997 370 EC under contract and survey raised some issues. There is elevated moisture in the lazarette area. Inboard and outboard stringers are high on the meter and the forward bulkhead of the lazarette is very high (pegged) toward the bottom, pretty much all the way across. Fuel tank sits right in front of this and presumably, the tank platform is high also, although this wasn't accessible to the surveyor. All areas sound good with the hammer, so no apparent delam or rot as of yet. Have any of you had this condition with your boats and if so, is there a fix or remediation short of tearing things apart? Bottom, sides and decks of this boat were good. Thanks! Leigh

I didn't have any moisture issues, but I did have some minor delamination on the bulkhead aft of the fuel tanks. The surveyor called it out in the report, but told me that they are not weight bearing/structural, so I shouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse.

If you have high moisture readings in the stringers, that would be concerning to me. Is the boat in the water year round? I think that will make a difference in moisture readings if I recall correctly.

Kevin: Thank you for the reply. This boat has been in a heated barn all winter. The area of the stringers with high readings is accessible. Getting at the Fuel tank side of the bulkhead and the base of the tanks, not so much. If it's a manageable job and I can obtain an appropriate concession, I might take it on. Otherwise I'll pass on this one. I do like these boats and good ones have been a little scarce lately. Leigh

Yeah, if the boat has been out of the water in a heated storage area, and still has high moisture readings, that would be a red flag for me. I don't know how accessible it would be getting to the fuel tank areas, but knowing my boat, it doesn't seem like a very easy thing. I can get to the bulkhead by removing the lounge seat and then the livewell, doing that I can see the bulkhead. I can't see anything beyond it though, including the tanks.

I agree with you that the inventory is scarce, so it sucks to find one with issues.

Hi guys , the boat is new to me. I wanted to ask you , how the boat is controlled with one engine. I have to change a faulty engine and need to go 35 miles to a mechanic shipyard on one , or take a Sea tow ?

I think for me it would depend on the running conditions where you are. I'm in a lake and would feel comfortable running on a single engine for a 5-10 mile cruise, not sure I would be with a 35 mile open ocean journey.

If you do run on single engine, I think the protocol is to strap down the shaft of the non-functioning engine so the prop doesn't turn. Having the prop spinning freely without cooling water flowing could build up heat and burn things up.

I've done small trips on a single engine at idle, just set your rudder angle appropriately to maintain course. Docking could be a bit tricky only being able to use rudder and one engine, but you can practice the approach along the way so you are ready for it and can see how the boat is going to react.

For me, I would probably have Sea Tow take it.

Thank you , it will be in a closed bay, I don't have to go out to the ocean

Good morning everyone, I had the top side detailed last week and the company ripped the gold and black stripes top side forward of the windshield. Anyone have any suggestions for where I would be able to get the same stripes?

Has anyone gotten access to remove the ice maker? I've got a leak happening and have narrowed it down to the ice maker, but I haven't found a way to access the back of it. I've got the 4 mounting screws removed and the unit pulls about 2/3 of the way out but then I can't slide it out more, I assume because the wires and water lines are holding it in place.

I've looked at removing the front panel inside the entertainment center but it looks to be glued in, plus the power seat bracket is bolted to it, so I don't think I should remove that.

I'm stumped! Anyone done this before?

Silly me, I should have searched the forum first. Found a thread on here that mentions having to tip it forward while pulling it out. That did the trick, leak fixed and making ice again.

Good to hear you got it fixed. Curious though, where is your ice maker located? I don't have one.

Mine is located underneath the helm seat. I think they were standard equipment on the 370s, but a lot of people remove them in favor of just having a refrigerator in its' place. I use mine all the time, so can't imagine not having it.

Gotcha. Previous owner installed helm a/c unit in that spot, which I certainly don't mind here in S. Florida when we get bad storms in the afternoon I can drop the curtains and still be comfortable.
There seems to be some wasted space under the prep sink area and wasn't sure if I could fit something there like another small fridge or ice unit.

Found this in my parts manual, it doesn't show the model but gives the specs of the motor - 68 degree sweep, 2" shaft, 2 speed. I checked on Flounder Pounder and they don't have any listed.

New owner here! :)

Speaking of the wiper motor, can anyone tell me how/where you access the port wiper motor? Mine needs replacing and I haven't the slightest where it (or the starboard) is located. Same goes for the weak ass horn that I want to be replaced as well.
