Official 350 (2013 - ????) Thread

I am definitely interested in hearing the answers on this. I'm in freshwater so I realize that makes some difference. I haven't run the boat a lot yet & I'm new to the cruiser type boat. I have had a heck of a time figuring out the sweet spot, it seems if I back down to anything under 3600 I slowly start falling off plane:huh:. It also seems I can't trim up the drives at all or at most one quick shot up or it sounds & feels like I start to loose bite.

My last boat was a 30' Grady-White with F250 outboards, very different if haven't run a boat with outboards. Like I said I'm very interested to read others comments & I'm definitely open to any suggestions.
Thanks

Smiling Monkey , have not tried with tabs dn. still playing with this boat to learn the ins and outs. Last big boat was the 340 but it had inboards. Total different animal.
INTERLUDE ,what speed are you seeing at 3600

Boater John, I'm running about 28 at 3600. I've been playing with the tabs a lot, probably to much. Like I said she really doesn't like having the drives trimmed up @ all, probably normal for a cruiser? I'm just very used to trimming up the outboards a lot to achieve the best performance. I have had a couple smaller single i/o go fast type boats in the past & have always trimmed up those drives a lot also.

INTERLUDE. I'm running that speed at 3400 . Running tabs dn. will scrub some speed. As far as trimming drives i can set them up about 2 or 3 clicks but it doesn't seem to pick up much speed. Maybe with a smooth lake it might make a difference.

Interlude, are you talking in knots or mph? If you're doing 28 kts @ 3600, that's pretty much right where I am. 32 mph @ 3500.

BOATER JOHN. I don't think I could even stay on plane @ 3400. I have been trying to run with the tabs up except for maybe a shot or 2 on one side or the other to level out.

SMILINGMONKEY, I am talking mph. I had read your post about your trip home with your boat & saw the speed & rpm's you were running, that's what really started my frustration. Like I said I'm not used to cruiser style boat yet, last weekend was really the first nice weekend We've had here so far this season. I think it's just going to take some more seat time to figure it out. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something like tabs down more or trim position. I will keep playing with it & get it figured out! If anyone thinks of something I might be doing wrong please don't hesitate to chime in.

Interlude,

I'd be frustrated as well. If the weather cooperates this weekend, I'll make a log of speed at different rpms this weekend. BTW, I only use my tabs to level out any listing. I really never use them to bring the bow down, it's not worth the effort.

Smilingmonkey,

That would be great if your willing to do that sometime. It will give me an idea of where I should be anyway. Thanks for the tip on the trim tabs. I'll keep you posted as to my progress as well, thanks for the help.

Interlude,

Here are some numbers for you:

RPM MPH GPH
3200 24.6 30.7
3550 31.2 35.7

Both these were heading into a 15-20kt head wind with a little less than 1 ft chop.

SmilingMonkey,

I will compare those with what I'm running weather permitting next weekend. Thanks much I appreciate it.

Hey guys just adding to the stats I usually run around the 30 to 32 mph between 3600 and 3700 rpms but I'm also usualy loaded with 10 people and provisions for a few days.

Some more performance numbers for you guys from this past weekend. No waves to speak of. 10-15 mph winds. 75 degrees air temp.

RPM MPH MPG GPH Comment
2900 21 0.84 25.6 Barely on plane
3200 23 0.84 28.1
3500 31 0.88 35.6
4200 38 0.67 56.1
4500 40 0.65 61.2

This summer we've done multiple two night trips on a mooring. I've noticed that my house batteries are really run down after 1 night. Down to 12v. Anyone else seeing their batteries drop so quickly?

Also, I found that the cockpit refrigerator is not controlled by the 12v fridge switch down below. Obviously not related to the battery draw, but was wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing

Buy this thread is quiet.... I guess no one's using their 350's?
I just read the last few posts thinking they were from this year, then I read your post, doh!. Maybe they are using them, and too much fun, no time to post!

Are the stock batteries big enough? My boat came with four Group 27 batteries and I'm thinking the boat really should have Group 31's.

Just got back from spending a few days on a mooring for the 4th and I had to charge the batteries every day by running the generator for a couple of hours. By day 3 I needed to charge them in the morning and evening. All I'm running is the two fridges, stereo, a few lights, etc. On my last boat (330) I could go 3 days on my Group 31 batteries before I needed to charge.

What's everyone else seeing?

I had group 27 in my 320, and I was seeing the issues you mention. Replaced with group 31 AGMs from Duracell, and now I’m not seeing any issues at all, just let the engines charge the batteries when we run the engines. 150$ from Sam’s club.

I'm new to this thread, but it is great to read everyone's post. I too struggle with getting mine up on plane. Its either on or off, and not pleasant for passengers when in between. Oh well.
I am having port engine misfire warnings that wont clear..usually they are accompanied by an emission sensor warning also..but I can clear those by turning off all power and putting throttles in full reverse position...trick my salesman told me about. Dealer has been no help going on 3 - 4 weeks now..anybody experienced the misfire warning? Engine seems to be running fine. TBrown
