Official 330 Express Cruiser / 340 Amberjack 1997-2003 Thread

I added a 12' sub in the cockpit. It's dead center of the port side high seat. (Seat facing forward left of captains chair) I. Choose this spot fora few reasons. One the sound has area to bounce, it's not just sending sounds into dead air space it has alot of solid area to bounce off of, and two easy run for speaker wire and easy mounting. You can reach the back of the sub through the locker and run the wires right through the floor in the locker and over to the amp, I use that locker for jackets. The jackets help muffle the sound and last the only time u can see the sub is when you walking up out of the cabin. Sounds great and when u want that little extra kick of bass just crack the locker door and the difference is huge.
As for the canvas. Mine is also from gls. No is not a perfect fit but it works very well. The one major change I had to make was moving the male snaps. Originally there screwed into the glass just above the rub rail. I left the originals there and use all the originals up until the transom. I screwed all new male snaps to the underside of the rub rail in the same vertical line as the original snaps. This way the canvas hugs the rub rail and it pulls tight(Canvas was to long) doing it this was hides the extra set of snaps and puts the extra canvas to good use. Other than that my canvas fits prefect everywhere else.

Very curiouse to see what material u use and how much it will run you to relax in ate the cabin to wood..

Thanks for the info! Where exactly did you go through the firewall to get behind the head unit to the amp? Hopefully my Great Lakes tops work out just as well as yours...keeping my fingers crossed.

GriimSpeed,
That's a long list of things that you did. I am surprised that you have hydraulic steering. The one I just looked it (a 1997) does not have it.

Yup, there is a fill hole on the top of the steering wheel.

Mine has hydraulic steering as well. Did the boat u looked at have auto pilot? I think the hydraulic steering get is added when the auto pilot option is added. I had to rebuild my stearing pump attached to the back off the wheel within one month of owning the boat. (3 seasons ago) I was forming a puddle of hydro oil under the wheel.

I don't have auto-pilot and I have hydraulic steering.

Did it have a genny? Whoever had that boat ordered was cheap lol

No genny either! There is a big lake here on the west site of the twin cities that a lot of people day boat on. The original owner was one of them. A lot of the boats on that lake don't have a/c, genny, radar because they didn't need it. Now I get to pay for it :(

Also, I found the weirdest thing today when doing the sea water impellers. There was a bunch of standing when underneath the port engine section of the bilge that was left over from when I cleaned the other day. It never drained out like the starboard engine section did. I investigated and the starboard side has a small hole drilled to let that section drain down into the aft bilge pump area. The port has no such hole!! I searched everywhere and couldn't find any drain hole in the port engine bilge section...wtf. Do you think it would be ok to drill through the stringer like on the starboard side so it can drain? Does anyone else have this problem?

Both engines sit above bilge sections that do not drain to the bilge pumps. I consider this an intentional design by SeaRay to prevent any oil or antifreeze from contaminating our waterways. Also, it is nice to check out those areas after a run to see if there are any leaks, knowing just how much has actually leaked. If a PO has drilled an limber hole you want to ensure that the wood core is well sealed to prevent water intrusion and subsequent rotting - very expensive to repair.

Pm me a cell number or email address and I'll send you pictures of my wiring and installation of the stereo.

As for the bilge containing water and not letting it drain. Yup mine holds water as well on the two outside areas. The area under the engines I don't think I've ever had water there except last Monday when my housing on the raw water pump went. That was excitingly listing lol lots of water. I caught it about 2 inches before it touched the oil pan

Hmm, ok. If that is the case maybe I will silicone up the starboard drain hole that some one drilled. Last thing I want is rot.

Glad to hear others are the same. Wow, glad you caught that water in time!! That could have been an expensive fix. I'll PM you my cell right now...

Per the cockpit ice maker, does this only run while hooked up to shore power (or genny)? I had an incident this weekend when on the hook where all the stuff I put in there thawed :(

I have a cockpit freezer that is 110 ac power the plug is behind the cockpit garbage can so only shore and genny will work

Yup the icemaker will only work with genny or shore power. Lots of people pull the ice maker and put a 12v freezer.

Yup. What I did. Freeze/Fridge combination and totally worth it.

Ya know speaking of outlets. Does anybody have another 110 outlet in the cockpit other then the one on the forward port side under the speaker. All the way down on the floor? Very frustrating when u have a blender on the wet bar and have to run an extension coats half way around your boat. My opinion dumb design

I ran an appliance extension from the second of two plugs for the ice maker to the storage area where the garbage pail is - great spot for the blender or even my electric BBQ.

I just want a meat locker. Can't even fit burgers and dogs in the cabin freezer

If you don't use your ice maker, why not lift the metal arm to shut off the ice making part and use it as a meat locker? It will stay frozen for quite a while without shore power, but you may have to fire up the genny once and a while to keep it that way… Me? - I love my drinks with LOTS of ice!

That's a great idea. I'm trying to figure out why I didn't think of that. Probably just to lazy to pull the ice machine out to put the extension in..... I'll do it soon.

I do exactly what u say with the ice machine. Prop arm up and fill with meat. Still not enough room... but I also like my ice as well. That blender won't be useful without that ice so I'm kidding da stuck in a little bit of a pickle. I'm just going to leave well enough alone and enjoy what I got!

Which one did you end up going with?

Norcold DE-740BB which was the biggest I could fit under the cockpit seat. Its so big I had to bend the side tabs over a bit. I had to trim the sides of the under seat fiberglass as well, but we now have cold drinks and ice on deck. Well worth it. It's 12v DC and 110v AC so always on. Very low draw so far and I have yet to have any real drain on the batteries, even while anchored over night. I have two 6 watt solar panels on the radar arch just in case and all of my lights are LED so that may help.

under the wet bar sink at the bottom there is an outlet on mine and the cockpit freezer on mine is just that a "Freezer" not ice maker that's where the ice cream and the burgers are all standard that year on our boats

This is what I am doing...the $49 one at the top right. I have a sample coming that should be here in a few days:

I found another thread on here where guys were saying the marinebeam ones put out a really nice light pattern. Not usual harsh LED light.

Side note - I just replaced all four cabin reading lights with these bad boys. Looks much better!
