Official 330 Express Cruiser / 340 Amberjack 1997-2003 Thread

- - Has anybody pulled up their carpet to put down laminated wood? If so how hard was it? Let’s see some Pic’s!

- - Also what is some websites for good deals on cleaning products? ( already looked at Overton, West marine)

- - It’s winter up here in Boston, I’m trying to get everything ordered so once the good weather comes I can get to work.

If you look back in this thread you will see a few people have done the conversion ,there are pictures I’m sure you can direct message a few of them if they don’t respond I think Amazon has some good deals on boat soaps etc.

It was a PITA (Pain in the Ass) The carpet was heavily glued down. Once I removed the carpet, I had to level out the floor with Bondo so I could install Lonseal. It turned out Awesome!

I have talked with Sea Ray about the right flooring material if I am looking for the wood look. They provided some details but stressed it needs to be a laminated product to be stable enough for the flexing, expansion and contraction. I also spoke with a couple boat yards in the area that refit boats and they suggested using long strand fiberglass to fit out any uneven areas as some of the plastic body fillers can absorb water and delaminate which would result in pulling up the floor to repair.
I have purchased the flooring to redo mine but have not yet been able to commit to pulling the carpet as I dread the glue.

Before I did my boat, I spoke with a guy that had a 370EC that did the same thing with Lonseal. He was going on 6 years with NO issues. Not sure where water would come from. This is what mine looked like just before putting down the Lonseal. Keep in mind that Lonseal recommends using an Epoxy based adhesive to glue down the flooring. Its not going anywhere...

Sorry I sort of mislead with my wording. They were referring to humidity that builds up in the cabin especially up here on the Great Lakes due to temperature swings. I also have the wet dog element that has been known to sneak into the cabin after her dip in the lake. Lol

I’ll be doing my floor this spring. I’m not sure I’d use laminate flooring (some are not truly waterproof). I’m using vinyl plank flooring. I ordered glue down teak plank from a flooring store. It look nearly identical to real teak and is not very slippery.

Carpet is coming up as soon as weather breaks. I’ll probably use a marine filler vs bondo; but I think either is fine with a glue down application.

Hey guys has anybody installed underwater lights, which ones did you go with and how many? Pictures would be great and some knowledge how you ran them.

Hi guys, any idea how I could have gotten water in the storage hatch in the main cabin/salon of my 1997 330 EC? It has been raining a lot but everything in main cabin was dry. I had been storing bottle waters down there but none seem to have broken/leaked. There was also a carpet cleaner stored in there but I really doubt I put it in there with water in it....

Happened to me once and never repeated ,not sure

Regarding water in floor cabin storage.

I had mine fill halfway up. The culprit was the junk push-on water line connections under the sink in the head. They were coming loose from my family bumped them when putting stuff under sink or pulling out faucet to use as a shower. That leak drained to an area, that when full drained to the area that houses the fresh water tank. When the area around the fresh water tank filled it overflowed into the floor storage area in the cabin. If your fresh water pump kicks on every once in a while when no faucets are on, that’s likely your culprit.

If that’s it, you will want to pull the stairs and vacuum out the water of the two areas “upstream” of the floor area.

I have since replaced nearly all of those junk fittings on my boat.

Interesting, although we haven't used the head much while it's been in the slip all winter. I've also been getting excessive amounts of water in the bilge after heavy rains, which we've had a lot of in Nor Cal, especially in the center between the 2 engines. I'm wondering if that's the source. I thought it might be from the drain around the engine hatch door but that seems to be draining ok. Any idea how I could be getting so much rain water in my bildge (I'm pretty sure it's rain water because it appears very clear when pumped out)?

I have water getting into my engine compartment after heavy rains as well. I’ve traced mine down to the engine vent outlet (vents on arch) on my port side. One of the many items to address on the 2019 to-do list.....

Yup we all have the same problem I have to address mine as well

on my 95 , I had this and traced it down to the shower sump. ive been getting water in the mid berth area resulting in wet cushions and that hanging locker on the stbd side... ive snugged up the port light screws , sealed up the running lights , I guess next when it warms up I will pull the rubrail and check out the joint and reseal if necessary

Hey all, I am new to the 330/EC 340 Amberjack ownership. This group is great.
Uplander or Joeyleggz, How would you address this issue? Seams like water can always get in those vents?

Well you have to remove the vents from the boat clean up the silicone around the vents , on the inside I believe there is a open void and on the bottom of the space is plywood that has to be rebedded if its not rotted out and there is a hole in the center of the plywood that leads to a tube that discharges the water that gets trapped in the vents and dumps it into the cockpit and is supposed to drain down the sides of the deck to the scuppers you should see two holes on your port and starboard sides outbound of the seats. Apparently the hole gets gunked up And clogs the drain

Exactly!

I installed a larger diameter tube in mine to help things flow. Its a Time consuming job. You have to cut the caulking away to get the outer vent off, Be Careful taking it off as there may be caulk under it as well. Once the outer vent is off, take the inner (Black) vent off and you will see your issues, clean it up and first try to vacuum out the hose to unclog it. If you have to replace the hose, getting to it from the engine compartment is tricky. Once cleaned out, Put it back together and caulk in the outer vent cover. I used 3M 4000 UV white and it held up really well last summer.

Thanks for the Explanation and I appreciate the detailed info on what to do to fix the problem. Because I haven’t had the boat very long, I am not familiar with all the nuances and problem areas to maintain and keep an eye out for yet. This thread has already helped a ton.
Thanks for you input also West32.
When I first read this topic thought too much rain was getting into the actual vents and was thinking I needed to have some sort of rain cover made...lol.
