Official 320 Dancer Thread

GMan,

Congrats. We have a blue 320 on Lake Travis as well. We're out almost every weekend, so you'll see us eventually. Mine is usually tied up to a big 500DA so if you see those two boats, its us. We head to devils cove in the offseason, but usually find someplace a bit less crazy during the mid-summer insanity.

Are they splashing it at Emerald point? If so, it'll probably be my buddy's shop (Eriksen Marine) putting it in as they do most of the Sail&Ski big boat commissioning. We'll be over there all this weekend helping out at the in-the-water boat show. Stop over if you need any boating stuff as there should be some good vendors/deals.

Hlrzr,

I second the idea of buying used. I saved $80K over the "boat show sale price" they had on a new 2006 by buying a mint 2004, it was the same identifcal boat, had an extended warranty through 2010 and was loaded. If there aren't any local ones, thats not a huge deal as long as you can purchase one in the northern US. Transporting a 320 is pretty straightforward. We had ours professionally hauled down from Oklahoma to TX. It was worth saving the money for sure. The $1500 I paid in transport paled compared to the $$$$ I saved over a similar boat down here.

I think folks too often constrain their search to local areas and end up overpaying. For example, my friend got his 500DA from New York and had it hauled all the way to Austin, and even with transport and a flight up to look at it, he still saved literally $100K compared to some closer ones.

When I look for the next boat (40 something with diesels), any boat anywhere is fair game for the right price. :)

Skip-- thanks for the advice about insurance! I would have never thought about that, but it is a good point. I will call my insurance guy today!

Dave-- nice to see another 320 on Lake Travis! Not sure about splashing at Emerald Point. I guess I just assumed that it would be at Yacht Harbor where we splashed our 182. But I guess I need to find out for sure, huh?

I have heard the ads on the radio for that in the water boat show this weekend. I might like to go and check it out.

We will definitely look for you on the water in Devil's Hollow or other hang outs on the south end of the lake. We typically hang out in the north because we don't like getting bounced around by the wakes of big boats down in the crowded parts of the lake (in the summer). But now that we have a bigger boat and will be making that wake we can go wherever we want!

Gman,

Here is the boat show flyer:

That boat should look familiar. No, mine is not for sale, but they needed a good picture and they had one I took this past summer. Well, I guess I should caveat that....everything is for sale, so it depends on the offer. :) Anyways, I'll probably be there helping out off and on. BTW, I think they'll have a couple of insurance agents there as well. Can't hurt to get a few comparison quotes.

We live on the north side of the lake so we hang out up there a lot, but devils cove is a good central location for most of our boating pals so we end up there too. If its during the middle of summer, though, devils turns into a frat party and we tend to avoid it.

You'll love the boat! Now if we could only get through our 2 weeks of winter. Looks like it might actually last 3-4 weeks this year!

delliott00/Dave...

I'm looking at a 07 320 DA with TVD-350 MAG MPI?
Is that enough engine for the boat?
What is your average cruising speed?

Thanks
Jason

I am looking at the same boat as well. Everyone says it is a nice setup with 350 mags

Skolbe and Hlrzr,

The 350Mag V-drives is a nice setup for the boat. I have not ever felt like it should have bigger engines, and my last boat was a Donzi :)

I typically cruise anywhere from 21-27mph. It'll top out at 36-37mph on calm water, but its not really designed for speed. Anything from 32mph on down and its a wonderful setup.

Its not as fuel efficient as an I/O, but its not bad. I would recommend using the smartcraft fuel mileage meter. However, you'll want to tie it to a GPS speed not the engine pitot speed. The pitot sensor is always slow on my boat.

If we're just out tooling along, I'll go 8-9mph where I typically burn about 5gph total (combined). Around 25mph I burn about 26-27gph, so almost 1mpg at cruise. I can get right at 1mpg at 21mph.

Of course, around the dock V-drives are simply wonderful. The boat just does exactly what you ask it to do.

So I give it a great endorsement.

Dave,
Thanks for the endorsement...I'm going to look at the boat on Saturday and if all goes well putting down a deposit.
Cheers

Ok...here is my latest deal...any opinions??

$208,000.00 Canadian = 181,000.00 US

This is my first boat....should I pay the extra $7500 for a bow thruster??

Bow thruster is not needed on this boat. I have friends with boats in this size and with V's it is very easy to control.

I agree, our 320 does fine around the docks without a bow thruster. One less thing to maintain and in our area, worry about marine critters screwing it up.

Well it looks like we bought the same boat at about the same time. Because our deal is done.

The boat is a 320 – with 350 Mag’s – V Drives - White Hull - Black Canvas.
Cockpit Fridge
Spot
5kw Kohler Low CO Gen
Sun Pad
Cockpit cover
Nickel – dash

Some other stuff. But here is the snapshot. Close in about a week.

Can someone tell me what this soft top option is about? I don't see the advantage.

It is basically a heavy duty frame and a little bit bigger aft sun shade. The boat we just bought doesn't have it - it is set up more like a center console top. It is doesn't fold up like the standard biminis.

Looks like a very expensive option....$2500. It appears that it would be much more work to remove.
