Official 290 Sundancer Thread

I really like ours too. The draw back I find is that the cockpit seating is not good for conversation. However, the layout of the salon is so appealing to me that I can deal with the seating arrangement. I will say that I love the room in the cockpit because of the seating configuration.

I don't yet have the cockpit fridge....I now end up taking the cooler out of the cabinet and putting it right in front of the cabinet, right in back of the drivers seat. It only takes up a little room and ends up being my seat to sit and talk.

We were going to add the cockpit fridge when we bought ours but decided against it because I typically stock drinks in the cooler in the cockpit cabinet and I can put a whole lot more drinks in the cooler than I can in the fridge.

I was unsure if I was going to like the cockpit fridge because we like our "beverages" ice cold but I have to admit I've come to appreciate it alot. We generally keep a smaller cooler on board now with maybe a 12 pack iced down behind that helm seat (which doubles as a little stool occassionally) but also keep beer and pop cold in the fridge. Keeps the kids from having to dig in the cooler for pop/gatorade. I'll sometimes toss those beers in the cooler -take one add one type thing). Keeps us from having to buy as much ice, plus I like when we are done and out of ice I have a place to keep the beer cold and leave it behind and not spoil it. I also like having a little extra freezer space for stuff like breakfast sandwiches, pizza rolls etc. You know, all the healthy stuff.

I have the cockpit fridge & an extra ice chest. For the ice chest, I got the Igloo white cube and as previously posted I keep it tucked behind the captains seat.

I got the Igloo white cube. It is perfect size and the perfect height to double as a seat. I often pull it up to the cockpit table when anchored. Hint, do not get the larger one with wheels. I tried it and it was a cluster. it moves too easy when underway. It was like dodge ball.

I was bummed that I bought two coolers to get what I wanted but actually it works great. The larger cooler will hold contents for the fridges & for the on-board cooler. It has wheels. I keep the larger Igloo at home and on the dock. It has wheels so it gets me down the dock easier. I load the boat up with the contents and at the dock I keep extra ice and beverages in the now large empty Igloo. I have the luxury of having a covered, secure slip so this might not work for others but it works well for me.

ENJOY THE WEEKEND. Is it Friday yet ??

You have a nice system....I'm coming down to your place!

Come on down. Probably a 2 1/2 day drive. LOL

I manage to make enough mistakes that I really manage to take advantage of the old saying you learn from.....

I got the sytem by buying the wrong ice chest to begin with and the figuring out what to do with it other than garage clutter. The good news is that, as it worked out, the bad purchase stayed off the list of stupid things I have done on/with the boat that the Admiral reminds me of each trip out.

I've got more coolers in my basement/garage than I care to count from all of the trips to the store where I said "this will work perfect" and then, not so much.

Anybody got any good upgrades planned during the year or recently finished?

Here are mine:

1) teak floor insert for head and around toilet. Like this:

2) Swim platform carpet. Like this:

3) Trailer. Hopefully.

4) Stereo upgrade at some point including transom remote and cockpit mp3 input.

5) LED lights in cockpit

Only clamping on the flag pole mount I got a few weeks ago.

I will save all the cool mods for after the peak boating season. I have the luxury of mild winters and plenty of time for projects and an excuse to spend time on the boat in November.

I am very interested in the teak floor for the head. If you go forward with that please let me follow your progess and the who and where part. Have you considered the Flexiteak as an option? Just curious. I would love that on my swim platform but the head would sure be cheaper.

Your thoughts ??

Here's the website for the teak. http://goodalemarine.com/index_036D.php

Tell Rich I sent you his way. He did a friend of mines 340 and it turned out awesome. He also made a custom table that mounts in his rod holder and has a spot for a blender. Way cool.

I need to make my template for him still but plan to do it this weekend. I'll be sure to snap pics as I move along and will show before and after pics.

I've seen the flexteak but for the bathroom/shower I prefer to have the real stuff where water can drain underneath to the drain. I think it will give it a very upscale look and will hide the the dirt/grunge that accumulates on the bathroom floor between cleanings. Because it is slotted wood that is raised off the floor by the support pieces about a 1/4 inch water should drain and not puddle like I expect with the thin flexteak.

I decided to go with the carpet on the swimplatform for the same reason. Cleaner look (I HATE dirty footprints) and a little more comfort and security when walking on it.

This is my buddies table.

Hey all! Just took delivery of our new toy a couple of weeks ago. I realize there aren't many of us out there, but is there anyone else running BII's? How do you find the performance? I brought mine back from the marina where I bought it and ran great, but I didn't want to run it WOT until I got the risers and manifolds replaced. She didn't seem as crisp on the hole shot as my old Bayliner with a single 5.7 and a BIII (granted, 4k lbs lighter...).

Anyone know of a good faucet to replace the one in the cockpit? I have the sprayer type on a hose and it leaks. Looking for a nice chromed / stainless one that will fit my vintage.

Wish list:
- Looking to upgrade the sound system also (just replaced all the speakers with Kenwoods as the Clariions were SHOT!).
- LED lights
- Portable genset (didn't come in the boat)....need to be able to run the margarita machine on the hook (and cool down the boat if it get's too hot during the day)!
- Propane / Butane cooktop --Anyone have any good suggestions for this?

OK Gang...this post was now languishing on Page 3! Let's keep it going.....

I just returned from nine days on the west coast of Florida. I went with a group of about 20 boats. We started in St Pete, and traveled down to Marco Island and back, spending a couple of days at three marina's.

I now have over 200 hours on my motors. Can someone give me an estimate on when I should plan to drop my outdrives and replace my gimbel bearings?

How many hours on your new model 290????

Awesome. Post some pics if you have them. I have about 120 hours on mine. I think I have put 36 on since April 24th. Around 139 on the generator.

No idea on the gimble bearing issue but I assume you just need to have it serviced, not replaced, right? What's the manual say?

Time for your 200 hour service. I think the gimbel bearing's on ours are non serviceable. They will pull the outdrives and check alignment. most of the 200 hour is fluid changes. I'm still about 30 hours away from it.

Hello all, I am looking at buying a 2007 290 Sundancer but have some questions on towing. What is the weight of the boat with T-5.0L Bravo III’s? The brochure says the dry weight is 9,250 lbs, not sure if it’s for the single, twin 4.3’s or what? Also, for those that trailer, what is the height at the top of the radar arch on a trailer? What brand trailer do you use?

Really appreciate any help you can offer, I don’t want to buy the boat unless I can trailer it.

Kevin

You will be close to 12K lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel no water and empty holding tank including the trailer and some gear.

I use a 350 to tow ours. You will need a permit due to the width. height probably not an issue. You just have to contact the state dot with your route and have a permit in each state you travel through.

I can't remember what the height was but it was under the limit. There's a thread on here I started about this somewhere. I think it was how tall is a 2006 290DA on trailer. Try the search feature. If I find it I'll post a link.

On my trailer, the TV antanae actually makes my 290 "overheight" - but without the TV antanae, it is about 13' off the ground to the height of the radar arch.

I concur, that on the trailer, my boat and trailer weight about 15K pounds. I have not gotten an official weight yet, but I would put money that this set up will tip the scale at that number.

I also use a F350 diesel to tow.

Anything special at the 200 hour service? Three months ago, I did an annual service and had all the fluids replaced.
