Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Has anyone had a custom mattress made for their 290? We have the original pad? The last owner added another layer of something and it is ok to lie in for a while, but not sleep.

Most use a 3" foam topper and cut it to size with an electric knife. Amazon sells sheet stays so you can "Wrap" the foam part. The under 30' boats have virtually no mattress just a combo pad that has little padding so it can be folded.

That is the exact set up we have. 3 or 4" memory foam with the top corners cut to fit. I like sleeping there more than my mattress at home! We are also able to roll the memory foam up and I use straps to keep it secure when the seat/couch is folded into position.

My refrigerator (2.7 cf) inside the cabin is dead and it was going to cost nearly as much to have someone work on it as it did to replace it. Purchased a new Norcold 2.7, much more quiet and efficient, but the face is different. Pics to follow once installation is complete.

Does anyone who owns a 290 have plans on moving up to something larger, MUCH LARGER? What are you thinking and what would your choice be?

I live in the PNW and really love my boat for what it was built for, but it isn't a fishing boat or nearly big enough to live on for us. Unfortunately Searay or most have done a poor job of melding a liveaboard with a fishing machine. We have been looking and think we have settled on our next platform. Once I retire, this will be kept in Louisiana near the gulf and used as my wintering home.

If anyone is interested.

I am very curious to see this! How much was it and where did you purchase it from? Thanks

There's actually a few threads that talked about getting their refrigerators fixed.

If it's totally dead (does not turn on) it's usually the power inverter and a few on here have taken the power board out of where ever it is and replace a few electrical components to get it back working again. Might be something to look into.

Also use a 4" foam topper and it is very comfortable.

I moved my boat from the Arkansas River to Lake Hamilton for the summer and have had recurring problems getting the anchor to both set initially and, once it has, to stay set. The shank was bent a little. I have an all chain rode and typically lay out enough chain for a 5 or 7 to 1 scope. Ordered a 33 lb Rocna and replaced the stock Kodiak 22 lb anchor with it this weekend. Vast improvement and it fits perfectly on the existing bow roller! I tried it out at a few of my normal spots and it worked every time in very windy conditions. I even anchored below a dam that was releasing water and it set and held in a 3.1 mph current.

My wife and I were talking about this yesterday. I live in a place where there is always a current sometime up to 4 kts. I have the Rocna 10? and it is useless. I don't think I have ever put it down and not been swept away. Maybe it is the currents but we are looking to upsize our anchor and possibly manufacturer.

I got the Rocna 15 (15 kg or 33 lb). I don’t think anything larger will fit on the roller without modification. So far It has been great.

You might consider adding an all chain rode if you don’t have one already.

Silly question but is there a drain in the transom locker? I get water in there and I see a small hole (a little smaller than the size of a dime) that looks like a drain, but it seems like its filled with foam or something. I looked at the parts manual and cant find any mention of a drain in the locker. Thanks

Anyone happen to have or can get the Airmar part number of the Smartcraft through-hull transducer in the engine room? Apparently there is a small label near the end of the wire/cable near the transducer. I do not believe mine has this sticker any more, but I will double check this weekend.

My transducer is leaking a small amount of water. I talked to Airmar and they said it likely is the o-rings. Looking at my blocking plug, one of the two o-rings is dry rotted and cracked. I need the Airmar part number to ensure which rebuild kit to buy which includes the o-rings.

They also mentioned I should be removing the transducer every winterization and lubing the o-rings which I was not aware of.

Anybody ever have one of your 2 (pointy, aft, deck windows) leak and if so how did you fix it? There is a strip of molding on the interior and I'm not sure how it is attached. I don't want to break it. My port window above the aft end of the sofa/mattress started leaking. UGGGH. It almost looks as if you can pop the window out from the top, put a new marine silicone bead and reseat it. Is it that easy?

Just following up to my transducer question. My transducer is labeled Airmar 44-031-3-01 customer part # 888828-1. This is the DT800 with the P17 housing. The only replacement O-Ring kit is for the DST800 which includes a speedometer wheel. So $30 for some o-rings. Airmar kit: 33-398-04. I need two kits to replace the dryed out cracked rings in the blanking plug, but I'll try to measure the new ones and just find replacements.

But my water leak is looking more likely from the bottom nut where it clamps down to the inside fiberglass. So I'll try to seal up with some 3M 4000 for now.

The previous owner of our boat removed them and resealed them. Apparently they will just pop out once the old caulk/sealant has been removed. I believe there is some info earlier in this thread about the repairs. From what it sounds like its not that hard.

Hello All. We are about to close the deal on our ‘new to us’ 2000, 290. Having just finished reading all 1198 posts on this thread i Think I know some of your boats better than my own. Soon fix that when we get possession on Friday. Lots of pics and problems to follow from sunny Sweden. Thanks for all the info so far!

I purchased the Norcold NR751BB from Great Lakes Skipper. $621.00 shipped to Utah. Fits and works perfect with cool blue LED lighting!! For the Galley that is.
