Official 290 Sundancer Thread

I agree! Mine are pretty damaged and plan on taking them off soon when I compound and wax the whole boat.

yes. Mine were all chewed up too.

I had my local vinyle guy make me new stripes for my 98 290. Just gave him the size i wanted and made it in 1 stripe. 1 inch gray, 1 inch white, 2 inch blue. Same stuff they use to wrap cars so it will hold up for years. Plus can match anything else ya want to add. Plus most do shirts so you can have him make you swag to give out to the crew who helps clean and drinks all your beer

I was going to replace mine as well, but I'll prob push this project off until next year.. Personally I like the stripes better than none at all. I was going to use www.hullstripes.com who advertises here on CSR.

I've debated on where the best location and how to install a grill mount on the 290. I've settled on the stern port side with a flush mount Magma for my existing round kettle type grill.

The mount requires three screws with washers and nuts on the bottom side of the fiberglass. This was practically impossible to get to at this location - and I have my engines out - and still couldn't reach it!

So I built a backer plate out of 3/16" 304 plate and tapped the three holes (not yet done in pic).

I took my backer plate with drill holes, marked and drilled 3 holes through the fiberglass on the top side.

I then took a string with a weight dropped it down the hole, retrieved it with a small coat hanger hook. Then I fed the backer plate up towards the bottom of the fiberglass. I then aligned the plate, put some 4200 between it and the bottom side of fiberglass and screwed in. I let this dry overnight to essentially hold the backing plate temporarily.

Came back the next day, removed the screws. Backing plate was then held by the 4200 temporarily. Installed the top side mount. Pic shown without the final screws installed!

So of all the pics I took, I don't have a completed image with the grill attached! But figured I would post this now before I lost these pictures. I angled it so the grill comes off about 45 degrees towards the person on the swim platform. Because of that the rubber gasket is rotated a little bit. The grill does have some detents it clicks into to use at different rotations, but they are fairly coarse.

I will still likely throw a towel over the vinyl just for added protection, but it should be sufficiently far away.

I takes a lot of guts to drill in the fiberglass the first time...I couldn't bring myself to do it so I had a handy friend drill it for me!

During my corona down time i finally got into the useless closets and added a shelf and closet pole. 1 inch mahogony with ss pole. The front is 1 1/2 ss flat rim. This way stuff will not slide off.

Does anyone know where to get new graphics? Specifically the Sundancer logo and the 3 for "290." Thanks!

Swimming in dirty jersey water Wife had a flesh eating bacterial down south and was in hospital for a month. Only thing that made her laugh was her new name. Gotta enjoy life when ya own a boat

Mdolesh. You can go on ebay and just put in sea ray sundancer sticker. They have the original ones for sale and same with the 290. If you look at my 1 post you can see i had my sundancer made at the local vinyle shop. It matched all my stuff and looks awesome

Did you go with the 4" version or the 5" version? Which is the stock/original size?

If you email him separately and tell him the year/model of the boat he’ll make them custom.

Looking to add the sun shade extension. Have a quote coming from Great Lakes but there were no images on their site. Anyone else added this?

Has anyone replaced bulbs with LED's? There are a million different threads related to this, but I cant find the right bulbs for a 290DA. I am looking to replace all the lights on the boat so any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I replaced all of my lights with LED's. Most of them were bought on Ebay. The interior reading lights can be bought a Menards. The "festoon" style (all of your exterior lights - arch, cockpit, nav) can be bought on Ebay.

Just take the factory bulbs out and measure the lengths and match up with the festoon style on Ebay. The cockpit bulbs are longer than the nav lights.

This extended aft Bimini top is part of the camper canvas option (which encloses the cockpit) for the 290 Sundancer.

I have a 1993, 290 Sundancer. I am in the process of removing the bow rail mounts, cleaning, water proofing and reinstalling. I have been able to locate all of the mounting nuts on the inside of the hull except for the starboard aft mount. I have searched many compartments and cannot find an access point for these. Does someone know the location for these mounting nuts?
