Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Ok, let me start with this question. As you can see from the boat I'm currently in and selling I'm quite the audiophile. Our raft up always looked to me to provide the music entertainment.

Can someone post some pics of how the upgraded stereo package is set up. I'll do mine aftermarket but would like to see the location of the sub, amps and any additional
speakers for planning.

I'll probably try and find a way to do the exact set up I had my current boat for the cockpit area and probably not touch what's in the cabin.

Welcome to the 290 club...as small as it is.

I started out by replacing the speakers...upgrading to MB Quart in the cockpit. You will want to have some Dynamat stuffed in the space near the arch...It's hollow.
I'm currently having the lower speakers..(near the cabin door & near the captains leg) moved up about 6 foot high on the arch. The current are very muffled.
I'm adding a Rockford Fosgate 500 watt amp, a RF Sub as well.
It should rock!

Thanks, Bob for your efforts to get her ready.

I was wondering, is the winter cover "trailerable". I would hate to weaken it or do any damage to it on the 650 mile haul but if its designed for it I would love for it to remain protected the entire way.

Groucho- please start a new thread on your stereo modifications. I'll be looking to do some stuff this summer.

I agree with you. I'd prefer it not suffer the wear and tear or dull up the gelcoat.

I always trailered with my covers on because I hated the road grime that got in there but that's on a bowrider. And god forbid tar get thrown on my vinyl. I always figured the canvas was replaceable.

Interesting Groucho, I had no idea that 290's had the option of a single 8.1/BIII. How's that work out for you? Speed, power, fuel consumption?

P.S. We LOVE Lake George. We usually tent camp for 4 nights at Roger's Rock, rent a power boat for some water skiing, rope swing last year, THAT was a blast! We trailer our jet ski up there and play with that as well. Then, we go to Killington (where we have a ski condo) and get back to civilization a bit. Jet ski the Champlain Locks and Lake Bomoseen. It's a nice vacation, inexpensive and quiet. We will probably be travelling in a 340 for this years summer vacation.

Regards,

Bob

The single works just fine...The price was right. Would I rather have twins? Yup...but again the price was right and gas was 4.60 a gallon @ the time.
It gets up on plane with 5 people pretty quick, and stays on plane @ 3400 rpm.
I like the layout down below...I like sleeping with both my feet on the bed and not crooked.

LG is a special lake, take a swim and drink the water and not worry about how clean it is. We like the narrows and log bay the best. We dock near Diamond point, and spend alot of time in Sandy bay as well. When gas was cheap...er...we would go up to Rodgers rock and have some lunch @ Indian kettles..(closed now, owner died suddenly). Ice is gone and we should be in the water soon.

Happy Boating in the 340, I'm jeolous.

Welcome back!

Well...as you may have seen I'm continuing with my project. I think I'm going to use the factory "amp" to run the cabin speakers and go with a Rockford Fosgate Amp and sub up top. I think I'm having the sub put in the portside seat compartment...He is going to drill the hole...it's a big one....ouch...

Thanks!

I need to check out your upgrade thread Groucho... is the sub going in the portside seat base? I would think an 8" sub is all that would fit in there...

Between the portside seating and the cabin door, there is an enormous amount of room and where I plan on putting mine. Not sure what the sound would be like tho, if the cabin door was always open...

Like you, I am planning on using the SeaRay amp for the cabin speakers, its a tiny little thing, but I imagine its better than nothing. Mounting a 3rd real amp, may be problematic space wise.

Yeah, the 10" sub is going there right under the standalone seat....I think...I mentioned putting it forward of the portside speaker in back of the door and he didn't think it would fit or be a good spot, maybe make the door rattle too?
I think the most important mod is going to be getting those forward speakers up higher on the arch. Bad spot SR picked for the forwards. I'm no fan of cutting big holes either...but think it might be worth it. I'm going with 1 sub... 500W.

Hey fellow 290 owners just found this thread. I have added a swim platform from swimplatforms.com which took about 2 weeks to install due to finding correct hardware and support brackets but well worth the headache. I just ordered raymarine radar and KVH M1 has anyone had any experience installing either one of these?

Any pictures of how this swim platform looks?

I only use a Nothstar GPS and plotter..no radar..

Glad to see that there are a few other 290's out there (I was getting a little lonely). Friday saw a fresh coat, or two of wax below the rub rail, the rest gets done between beers in the water! It's just more fun that way. Hoping to splash this week. Drives and motors all set, just ned the WATER:grin:.

Can any one recommend a shipping company to haul a 290 from New Jersey to Indiana? I need to line something up.

George Sicard is a friend of mine with a company. Most of the dealers here use him to pick up boats up and down the coast.
Call him and let him know I referred you. (George Smith).

Didn't you post your install on this site or was it on some other site? I seem to remember something about it and it looked great. If I wasn't in a 30 ft slip I'd consider it myself.

I have not posted my install yet but here it is. I just posted for advice before I started. Anyone attempting this mod on a 290 feel free to ask for advice I'm sure I will save you some time and headache. I also installed a pedistal for my new magma grill.
