official 290 Amberjack thread

My goal was to avoid that.
Two clamp on rod holders pointing back.
Two aluminim poles from repurposed paddles.

The little drop down part adds a lot of shade. We will probably put a zipper on that or straps to roll it up.
Probably a zipper on the front so it connects to the standard bimini.

I used a cheap canvass drop cloth for the mockup.
I bought a new mooring cover so the old one will be used .
Ill use the front part to cover the windsheild because its still good.
Might add roll up panels to attach to the eisenglass

Another problem I have is the rode always slip under and out of the windlass finger whenever retrieveing the anchor, the chain part would work perfectly but when it gets to the rode part, the rode would slip under outside of the finger so I would always to come up and manually put it in and it would be ok. Anyone have this problem? It is the Lofrans Project 1000 windlass. Thanks
Go out and let the line out almost all the way. Watch it in the locker it should go to the bottom and maybe push it down there.

As the winch pulls it up the line needs a little weight to pull it down into the locker.
When it bunches up in the locker there is not enough weight to pull it down.

I maybe only use 1/2 of the line regularly.
Its never that deep where I use it.
Im glad its all there, just in case.

Mine used to also get twisted too.

Thank you man! Where I fish 90% of the time its 30 feet deep or less so I never need to let out that much rode, I will let it all out next time im on the boat, other folks have reccomend using fabric softener for the rode too.

You're pretty near me, My boat is kept in Stevensville, MD but I live in Silver Spring so I see that we both have about the same distance to travel to our boats lol. Waiting on my port engine block to be replaced because it has bad compression :(:(:(...sighhhh. Good to see another Amberjack around.

Mine is kept at Queen Anne Marina, right next to the bay, Im not doing any work on my boat as I don't know much about it besides replacing minor stuff lol, my marine mechanic is going to do all the work. I had to replaced the block on the starboard side last year too. Bought the boat from Fort Lauderdale and my mechanic said that the salt water that it sat on is what caused it.

Are you going to put closed cooling on it?
I decided early on that it was the best thing.
It runs coolant thru the block, not salt water.
I pulled my engines and generator.
I was in in a place that was very shallow with a lot of silt.
Monitor full system is what I installed.
Just got the boat back in the water and ran great for about 2 hours on Saturday.
We're not far apart. Island view Marina is about 3-4 miles south of rt 50 down Dominion drive. Its the exit where Burger King and Safeway are.

Hope you get back on the water soon.
Id like to move down there soon.
Have some family friends in that neighborhood.
One is across the inlet from the Restaraunt.
Is it closed again?

I just texted my marine mechanic to ask about closed cooling. My dock is about 9 miles in. from the first exit after the bridge (Nanticoke rd) I think the restaurant you're talking about is Hemmingway and I think they're open again. I've been getting on just one engine so haven't gone too far, waiting for all the parts to get in. Be safe out there.

We just got a 2005 290 Amberjack on Lake MI and are loving it! I’m looking to add additional rod holders to the radar arch. Anyone have a good fishing setup to share or have a favorite rod holder that works well with the arch?

Thanks!

V-drives Only!!! (not interested in I/O stern drive numbers)

What do you get for speed at certain RPMs? I'm getting around 25MPH or so at 4000-4100RPMs. This seems way low compared to published numbers I've seen.

I'm new to power boating so it could be a trim adjustment is needed. When the weather clears up I'll be back out on the bay experimenting.

My wife was out at night and couldn't see the cockpit switches. Do the switches on an '05 amberjack 290 light up so you can see what they are?

Wondering if theres a fuse out or something, or maybe they just don't light up?

I think you have to turn on the nav light switch on. Unfortunately when its dark its hard to see which one it is. On mine, i think one of the switch panel screws is right above it.
Only some of the switches have a light on mine.

Thanks! I think she had the nav lights on but I'll check it out.

Anyone have issues with water in the shower sump area? Had about 4” of water outside the pump box.

I have a 2003 290. When I purchased it; it didn't have a mattress. Does anyone know where I can source one without getting raped?
Also I was trying to access under the shower. The carpeted panel does appear removable but I can figure out how. I have a small leak coming from there.

The "sump box" gets clogged up very easily if anything other than water goes down the drain. The shower floor drain and the air conditioner condensate goes there too.

Take the screws out of the top of the box and clean out any hair or scum.
Its very possible the float switch is bad or the pump.
Do it before it freezes.
