Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Good - thank you for not taking things the wrong way.

Sea Ray has been using a thru-hull transducer for a long, l-o-n-g time. Even much earlier than 2003. If you found someone with a glued-in ducer it was aftermarket.

I would say that the chances are very good that the ducer you pictured will work. I can't say for sure - but it looks the same... and nearly all transducers are made by Airmar so it's a good bet that they share the same dimensions. It'll be easy to check since you're on the hard and can just pull it out and try.

Thanks a lot.
Will order this and report back on my finding regarding the fitting.

I installed a new transducer when upgrading to a Garmin setup the factory unit came right out and was in bad need of re bedding. No modifications needed as the new one fit perfectly in the existing 2” hole.
Perfect. So a 2inch display will fit in the place of the Lawrence 3500 at the helm and a 2inch transducer will replace the transducer below.
Grat info.

thanks

Anybody have a scale weight for a 280 with 4.3s on a triple axle trailer? Thoughts on trailering? I'm wondering if the legal-plus 11" beam is something to go through the trouble (and restrictions) of permitting for. It would take an astute law enforcement officer to recognize the transgression at a glance!

TIA.

I trailer about 2-4 times a season. Basically, I take her out of the water for 1-3 months to do some annual haul maintenance from home. I've never needed a permit and have had plenty of interactions with various law enforcement (all positive and helpful).

Thanks. What do you tow with? I'm using a 2004 SRW Dodge Ram 3500 diesel, which is tow-tested with 11,500 lbs., which does not leave much margin to the published limits (mainly bumping up on the 9900 GVWR with fuel, gear and occupants). Based on my many miles at that weight, I'd have no reservations bumping it up another ton from a handling and stopping perspective, but legality is another matter. I suspect the 280 with twins on a tri-axle (mine will be galvanized, not aluminum) will be around 12,500 to 13,000 lbs., given standard gear and fuel. I recognize that newer versions of a similarly equipped truck have much greater towing capacity numbers. Not really wanting to invest in a new truck. Just trying to find out what some real world experience is before I make the leap!

I tow with a 2013 F250 gas. She's got a limit of 12,500 and I have a long driveway that climbs 100 feet. In 4 low I've never had a problem hauling her up the hill. Going down my hands are always on the trailer break but the 250 has been a solid tow vehicle. From the 2005 spec sheet her dry weight is 8500 lbs.

New member here ... just picked up a 2005 280 Sundancer with Twin 5.0s... and the previous owner just sent over the original eisenglass front, side, and back panel. After scrubbing them off (what a mess -- i don't think ever used just folded away), I wanted to hang them on the boat to try and let them get back into normal shape. Unfortunately the Bimini top looks to have never been removed and many of the zippers are shot -- they look like they have degraded in place from salt water.

Rather than keep fighting with them using WD40 and a chisel (yikes) they don't look like they will ever work again. So, does it pay to remove the canvas pieces and see if I can get replacement zippers (just the slider?) or is it more cost-effective to order new pieces instead? And is there a 'manual' somewhere that shows all the various pieces/parts so I can get some price quotes? I don't want to risk removing anything on the boat now in fear that it will never go back on...

Thanks in advance,

-ed

If the pieces, themselves, are in good shape then any local upholsterer can sew in new zippers.

Guys my Kohler is getting up in hours and thinking to proactively start going through my boat.

What you think a generator rebuild would cost? My generator has 900+ hours on it.

I have the stock audio system with the CD changer that am looking to change. my
My goal and ONLY goal is to achieve Bluetooth functionality as the FM transmitter I am using is not 100% clear at times.

I read on here the Clarion XMD1 doesn’t have Bluetooth and also doesn’t have Aux inputs to add a Bluetooth Dongle. But when I pulled the unit out I saw two RCA plugs which had me wondering if this was for some “Aux In” of some sort. If so, a bluetooth dongle should work. No?
Can anyone please verify for me if I am correct.

If not, which unit can I upgrade to that will simply be plug and play to allow Bluetooth functionality and still work with the remote at the helm.
That’s what I need.
Thanks

I can confirm your suspicions, yes the rca plugs are for an aux input so you just need a bluetooth dongle and you will be good to go.

I actually believe there are RCA outputs. The XDM1 from my research doesn't have aux in.

No they are inputs. I have had a bluetooth receiver hooked up for 3 years on mine. Assuming the same radio on a 2005. I always listen to pandora on the bay.

I agree with Josh. I posted my reply below in the other thread you posted earlier (with some minor edits to clarify).

I have the same Clarion setup on my 04. I pulled the unit out and connected a 6ft aux cable. 6ft is long enough to run up thru the cabinet doorway to rest my cell in the cupholder on the port side. I plug that cable into my aux port on my phone, set the function on the radio remote to Aux, and I've got instant Bluetooth. I have the Sirius app on my phone and listen every time we go out. Sounds great too!

From outside and inside research, it has been suggested that the two RCA at the back of the XDM1 are outputs and the XDM1 doesn't have aux in general. But you stating otherwise. Can you confirm if you have a XDM1?

Does anyone know where the ground bus for the vacuflush vacuum generator is located? I have 12v to the motor, but once the motor tries to start, voltage goes to zero. If I connect the motor directly to a battery it runs, so I think it is probably a bad ground, but I don't know where the ground is connected. The only thing I have not tried is running a line from the neg on the battery to the motor.

Here is a photo of the radio I have. RCA inputs are behind it.
