We have a small fluke anchor in the lazaret for stern anchoring. I have yet to use it though as it came with the boat and we just got the boat.

I keep a small Danforth (12#) and 100' of 3/8" rode on a spool in the stern locker with the fenders. We only use it for special needs like positioning the boat for optimal viewing of fireworks or concerts, but it has held multiple boats when used. We are in fresh water with mud & rock.

We didn’t need a stern anchor often, so I kept the proper sized Fortress disassembled in a bag with assembly tools under the vee berth. I kept 150’ of ⅜” rolled around a 2’ longish board in a box in the engine compartment.

Can you share a picture of the spool? I want to keep the lazaret as well organized as possible.

An easy and cheap method is to use one of those orange, electrical cord reels from HD.

I made one from plywood scrap taking a 6” x 24” piece with 1” notches on each end.
You all should know something about Henry, though. His "scrap" is usually what we would call "fine carpentry". You should see HIS fine carpentry! :)

But now that you mention it, Henry, I think have the same thing under one of the cottages in Maine with about 100' of 3/8" on it... probably been there for about 20 years!

Hello all! I’m in the process to purchase a new to me 2006 280DA (my first boat). While checking the hull for integrity the surveyor pointed out an area of the keel that sounded different than the rest of the boat. It seemed to be uniform along both sides of the keel about mid ship for 4’ or so. No obvious damage but couldn’t get a moisture reading because of anti fouling paint and no access to the area from inside the cabin. Is anyone aware of the hull construction and if this is normal? A couple other “experts” said it seems normal because of the uniformity. The boat is in dire need of a bath and does not have any electronics, so will have a few projects to tackle before boating season. Looking forward to joining the club with my first boat!

We have a 2005 265 Sundancer and are looking to do some remodeling in the cabin. The cushions in the V-berth are stiff and uncomfortable, and I'm thinking of getting a mattress topper, but I'm also considering removing the bolsters along the side of sleeping area (we never set it up as a table so have no need of them as back rests). Anyone ever remove them? How do you manage the storage under the bed if it's always set up as a bed? The cushions need to be removed to access the area.

Today I started this project! I used my trusty ratchet screw driver and began by unscrewing the screws on the top ledge of the bolster. I had no idea if this was the right thing to do, but it turned out to be exactly right. After removing a couple of screws, I found that the bolster actually moved around and, after one more screw, it came right off! So, since I had begun with the starboard long bolster, I undid the screws on the port side bolster and it came right off too; then it was just a couple of screws and the headboard/bolster came off. Don't know why they used such LONG screws, but it was just the screws on the top of the bolster that needed to come off in order for the bolsters to remove pretty easily. Now that they are off, there is considerably more sleeping room, but there is a bit more remodeling to be done before we are ready to launch. I'll update as we go along.

Ok Will try to answer your questions. BTW do you have a manual - I'll augment my comments with pg numbers.

Shore power: connect to the receptacle in the transom storage bin. On the main distribution panel (adjacent to the aft stateroom) you'll see a light that shows power and an analog gauge that shows current. (pg 42). You then turn on whichever AC device you want, i.e.fridge, etc. NOTE: The AC Converter switch must be on to charge the batteries (however the battery switches do not need to be on).

Shore water: adjacent to the shore power in that same locker is the water inlet Just screw in the hose and turn on the water. FYI it does not fill up the water tank - you have to do that manually (pg 10).

To use the head: turn on the Head System switch on the DC panel - directly below the AC portion of the panel. Turn on the key switch in the head and go at it FYI a routine maintenance item is changing the duckbill valves and the filter. Lots of youtube videos on this. Not a pleasant but necessary routine task.

I have a 2006 280DA so you know what size duckbill valves are used for the head system? Are they 1 1/2" or 2" my boat is winterized right now and not easy to get to and I would like to order them so I have them when I get it out of storage in a few weeks. Thanks for any help

They'll be 1-1/2". For future reference, you can find this kind of thing in your parts manual.

If anyone needs a sump pump for the shower I listed a new in box Whale Gulper 200 on the classifieds. Bought it for my previous boat that I sold and the current sundeck has no shower so I don't need it.

Would anyone happen to know the PN for the access hole cover on the arch of my 2001? I’ve looked through the boat IPB and can’t seem to find it anywhere. Thank you in advance!

Don’t know the number, but the access plate under the mattress in the cave (for gas tank sender) on our 02 280 was the same as the arch. I know because the arch plate yellowed and I swapped the two.

That’s exactly what has happened to mine, it’s yellowed and started to crack. Thanks for the heads up about the sender cover though...I’ll look into swapping them out and fabbing something for under the mattress if I can’t find a replacement.

Before you swap them try to find a color match to the gelcoat with a good paint for plastic. A coat of paint will prevent future yellowing and resulting cracking.
