Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Thank you...I should have thought of checking a Kohler spec sheet. Just trying to determine if 300HP is enough power for 280 Sundancer plus generator.

What year 280? that will make a big difference as the hull sizes/weight changed considerably from 2009-2010. As I understand it, the current 280 is a similar hull size to the 2008-9 ish 260. There are a number of these 260s on the dock where I am and I haven't heard any complaints on power.

Anyone know the model number of the a/c system on a 2003 280 Dancer? My compressor just died.

Have a leak in the starboard side, cockpit panel storage compartment (see diagram) . The carpet is getting wet. I did a search and didn't come up with anything.
Anyone have ideas on how the water is possibly getting in?
Thanks

You might want to check to see if you have any antenna leaks on our arch. I had a leak and found it came from a loose GPS sensor on the top of the arch.
Or you could have water leaking from the sink, there is a space between the top of the sink and the bottom of the counter top

I want to change the fridge in my boat but I've read about people having trouble removing the fridge from the galley in some sea ray sundancers due to the door not being wide enough.. Does anyone know if it's the same in our 280:s?

I haven't removed the fridge yet but you can see it has an angle in the back left part of the inside.. Is that because there's something behind the fridge so I have to make sure the new one is the same or is it just the standard design of this particular fridge?
We just pulled ours, measured it and the cut out in the counter. Went over to West Marine and ordered a new one. We have to open the cut out about a 1/4 inch on the side and 1/2 " on the bottom for the ventilation. It's an easy install.

Which model did you get?

Looking for the approximate weight of a 2014 or newer 280 Sundancer equipped with all the normal options ( Air, Heat, Cockpit Frig, Grill. Generator, Carpet etc). I know the published numbers by Sea Ray but that is basic empty weight. Thank you

Installed Generator is around 250lbs from what I understand, the rest I'd add a few hundred pounds for. Biggest contributor if you're worried about weight will be fuel, water and waste.

I am a new owner of a 2016 Sundancer 280. The fresh water pump keeps running every 10-15 seconds, it only stays on for a couple seconds. I traced all the water lines and don't notice any leaks. The water pressure is good on the wet bar sink in the cockpit, but pressure is only a trickle in the galley and head sinks, and seems to be no pressure at all on the transom shower. The toilet fills ok (i am not sure how fast it should fill). Any idea what the problem might be?

10-15 seconds... while you are demanding water, or when all faucets are closed?]

FYI... this thread (although the title doesn't specify) is actually 99% about the larger, '01-'09 280DA. However, your question/issue is not "boat model" dependent.

While all the faucets are turned off.

While all the faucets are turned off.
Then there is a leak somewhere, the pump internals/switch are damaged or possibly the faucet aerators being clogged are causing the problem. Start by disassembling the faucets and cleaning.

Thanks for the advice. I spent couple hours today solving my problem. I started by buying a new pump (in case I needed it) and a set of caps to cap-off each water line on the cold and hot manifold so I could test which line might be leaking. I first checked the aerators, which did appear to be partially plugged and causing low flow. After removing the aerators, the cold water flowed fine. The transom shower, worked fine, I was not pulling the faucet out far enough to turn it on.

After cleaning the aerators, the pump was still cycling every few seconds. I decided to open the ball valve and fill the hot water heater before trouble shooting each line for leaks. It turned out, that after the hot water tank filled, the pump stopped cycling every few seconds. The ball valve was leaking slightly and I was loosing water pressure into the empty hot water tank.

I can now return the unused pump and caps, and buy a new ball valve. I will get a brass valve to replace the plastic one that is leaking.

Thanks for your advice.

You're welcome, T. Glad to hear you got it all squared away.

06' 280 Sundancer that I bought with generator non-serviceable. Once I replaced the impeller and impeller shaft, as well as flushing the whole radiator system due impeller parts clogging everything up and overheating the generator, it all worked fine...for a while.
Recently, the generator would randomly blow the input fuse. The first time it blew all 3. Also, I noticed my blower motors were popping the circuit breaker. After installing two new fans (mucho pain in the butt), I was still blowing fuses. All the forums kept point towards a bad controller board but the key issue I kept seeing is everyone else's generator would not start or die after starting. Mine would blow the fuse, blow the replacement fuse, then start up again and run all day or blow after one hour.
After increasing my gray hair by at least 2% (that's a lot for someone with almost no gray hair!), I replaced the fuel pump (rusted) and the inlet hose (showed internal wear with insides falling out and partially clogging hose). Since then, I've had ZERO issues with generator. Starts up, runs from docking out to docking in. Just wanted to share with those who may have genny issues themselves. It's not always the controller board! I think low fuel pressure as well as slightly overheating due not getting quite enough water was causing it to overheat enough to blow fuse under pressure of random high loads (a/c or microwave).

Has anyone recently (or ever) replaced the black rubber insert that covers the windshield screws on your 280? I noticed that mine has shrunk a few inches over the years, exposing the screw track nearest the walk-thru on both sides. For both aesthetic and weatherproofing reasons I'd like to replace this, but was curious if anyone had a part number, or measurements that they could share from a similar endeavor.

Thanks,
John

John did you look in the parts manual (I tried attaching it but the file is too big). Also another lead might be to call Taylormade since I assume that would be part of their install.
