Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Pictures below of the teak table installed. You can also see the contrast to the Infinity Woven cockpit floor. I used the existing stand (took the bracket off the old plastic round table and screwed it into the new teak table). Note old table and bracket to hold the table in the ER now reside in my garage.

Wow, TJ that looks phenominal! Do you mind sharing the part number of the table? I think I have to add this to my short term upgrade list.

Also, does the table interfere with opening the ignition cover? It's tough to tell from the angle of the photo if there is enough clearance.

Electric fuel pump does not energize when ignition in set to ON. And the low oil pressure warning does not sound either. Engine will crank but of course it will not start as their is no fuel. Only on the port engine (4.3 merc - EFI throttle body). Reading the manual, I'm suspect it could be the ECM on the engine, but I can't figure out where it is. There are 3 or 4 "blocks" on the top but no idea how to identify . The manual also says there is an in-line fuse but I can't find that either.

One last bit of info, my Garmin resets when cracking that engine...like there is too much voltage being pulled and it is actually powering it off. That is even more strange.

Did you try to emergency start it?

Note: I pull the table leg off the base when accessing the ER - but I would do that with the old table as well. Also the picture of the table on the boat is a lot darker because of low light. The Semco finish I use has minimal affect on the color of the teak. The original photo of the teak table (in my mud room) is after the Semco finish was applied

Looks great.

That does look great! If you don't mind, what did it cost per sq. ft. to purchase and install?
The total cost was $1100. or approximately $13./ft. This is for patterning, cutting, trimming edge with Sunbrella and installation including color coded snaps. The total cost was a bit more than normal because of the pattern we chose and the need to match up between different pieces (2 pieces in the cockpit). FYI they gave us the excess material which is enough to cover the cabin floor and swim platform (if we wanted). Hope this helps.

Thank you! Appreciate your quick response. I'm getting quotes this week and need a frame of reference.

Still looking for a clean 280 however ask price is all over the place. Any thoughts? Criteria is a well taken care boat, first boat owner preference. Fresh water cooling or fresh water use. Any thoughts on recent purchases?

Just got new vinyl windows. How does everyone store their when not in use?

Hey Chris,

I roll the front and side windows up in old beach towels to make sure there is no glass on glass rubbing. For the larger pieces I use cheap non-fitted sheets. When rolled up and on the boat I store them in the mid-berth, for the winter I stored them at home in the closet.

In my recent experiences the asking prices were a bit all over, and that seemed to have more to do with someone that really wanted out of if versus someone who wasn't desperate to sell. I would say that asking price is just a starting point, it's not a sale price until someone is willing to pay it, so look for boats that fit your criteria then narrow down from there and see how flexible/realistic the sellers are. It doesn't cost you anything to make an offer.

There is a 2004 280 and a 2006 280 brokered at the same dealer I bought mine through (B&E Marine in Michigan City Indiana). I'm happy to put you in contact with the gentleman I worked with as we had a wonderful experience. In addition, if you were interested in those boats we currently have ours stored there for winter. I am there frequently and could take a look for you.

Once you find the boat (and deal) that works for you, I highly recommend a survey, sea trial, and engine survey (at least compression test) to make sure you know what you're getting. For me, the cost of those was truly piece of mind that I wasn't buying someone else's problems.

Feel free to reach out via private message if you'd like the info on the boats at B&E

+1 on traveling for the right boat........pretty much anything in the NE will be a salty dog (nothing wrong with that if its properly maintained, etc) Most are 4.3A1 powered (great combo, I had an '04 equipped that way) and most are raw water cooled.......on the flip side, it seems most 5.0BIII boats are fresh water cooled.....As for asking prices, a LOT of people are still upside down on their loans and are looking to get out, but lack the cash to do so.......so they are "Hoping" their boat is worth their payoff.....Ive seen really nice '05 ish salt water 4.3A1 boats go as high as 45k......which I think is a lot given the market....

I do the same - key is keeping the 'glass' from touching each other.

Where are you planning on using it? That would definitely change the specs on the boat - single would be great on an inland lake - on the great lakes or ocean I would definitely opt for twins.

the slip is on the river, however we are .25 miles from the locks leading to the Boston harbor. So definitely looking at twins. I would definitely travel for the right boat.

When I was looking last fall (we bought an 05 with 5.0/B3's)- there were a number of boats available on the Great Lakes and inland waters (Ohio river) and in Minnesota. Asking price will be a bit steeper than in the fall, however if you pm with your email me I can send you some selling info.

Took me over a year to find a freshwater 280 with 5.0s. You never know though. Search on Adhuntr which is all of craigslist.
