Official 280 Sundancer Thread

Thank you. The manual does not specify the part number. Do you happen to know it? Thanks in advance.

You have a Cool Fuel 3, different animal than what searaypuget is describing. Go to BAM's mercruiser website , enter your engine number and the parts Fitch will give you the part numbers you are looking for

Anyone know what the black thru hull under the starboard side motor directly under that little water distribution tank is? Has one black wire going to it.

First off, hello! I'm amazed at the knowledge represented on this forum. I've learned so much about our 280DA from reading all 421 pages of this thread. I'm not new to boats; I've had boats all my life but mostly outboard center console fishing type boats. This is our first cruiser and we're loving it. We keep it at our dock on Lake Lanier, GA, and get to enjoy it often.

EIM issue? A week ago I upgraded the anchor light to LED. Tested after installation and it looked great. We went on a dinner cruise last Wednesday and everything seemed normal; blower working, windless working, etc. On the cruise home at sunset I turned on the nav lights and the windless light came on and would not turn off. Back at the dock I discovered the anchor light was not lit. I started trouble shooting this weekend thinking it was the new LED, however now the blower doesn't work, windless doesn't work, cockpit lights will flicker once but not stay on, bilge lights and storage compartment lights don't work. Anchor light strobed at first, now doesn't work. Stereo remote powers up when I turn on the nav lights. All of these functions are controlled by the aft EIM.

I can't imagine that installing a LED lamp could cause an EIM issue. Is this just coincidental? Any advice on next steps?

I am need of a replacement steering wheel for my 2002 280 Sundancer. I can't find any specs online of what I should order. It doesnt need to be OEM. Just looking for a nice alternative. Any help fellas? Thanks!

Does anyone have photos or could anyone explain how to remove stern back rest for re-upholstery?
Are the bolts behind the port and starboard dividers in the stern storage compartment?

More than likely, it's exactly the same as my 260DA was. If I remember correctly, some of the through bolts where accessible through the transom storage. I believe there was one or two more that would need to be gotten to from the engine bay... possibly removing the blower vent cover. It's been a while since I removed mine.

Dennis is correct, the bolts are accessed from the transom locker. There might be one tricky one on the port side that needs to accessed from the engine bay but if I recall, all were accessible from the transom locker.

As new 280 (2007) owners I just wanted to express how we appreciate this site :0)

I was switching out my navigation lights last weekend and on the port side I ripped one of the wires. Can anyone tell me where they are located inside the boat so i can run a new wire, without taking too many panels apart.

Thanks

I seem to recall that that "tricky" one was only a screw. After I had gotten all the nuts off, that tricky one was holding me up. I knew how to get to it, but really didn't want to try. I started gently pulling on the backrest and was able to just pull it right off. I never did put that screw back in - the backrest was plenty secure without it.

Thanks for everyone's input! I'll give it a try, thanks again!

Anyone ever change their fuel/water seperator and the motor wouldn't start afterwards? I think i was supposed to prime it by pouring fuel into the new one. Didn't do that to the other engine and it started right up though. Not sure how.
