Re: Official 280 Sundancer Thread - Odor of gas under cabin step

Has anyone had a problem with gasoline odors under the cabin step
I think my issue is possibly a leaking gasket for the fuel sender under the aft bunk

    Good Afternoon All,

Just had the Quantum radar installed and a digital glomax tv antenna (while he was up there). Figured there might be a rainy day and be able to wake up to local news and or a game, who knows.

My question is, my 280 is a 2005 year model. Is the tv Sea Ray installs ready to accept a digital signal? Besides having a digital antenna, would I need a digital converter as well? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

FYI i have learned there is no such thing as a 'digital' antenna....some antennas are marketed that way or marketed as 'HD antenna' so they can charge more but they are the exact same antenna as a standard UHF/VHF antenna....it will receive both analog and digital signals....

Thanks for the heads up on the antenna Cliff!

But I still need to know if the tv can handle a digital signal. I changed out the antenna and ran new cable to the tv, installed the new booster that came with the antenna. Do I need a digital converter to make this work Any thoughts? Thanks.

I know the TV that came with my boat back in 2001 worked just fine with just the antenna hooked up. No external converter was needed. Since your boat is newer I would bet your TV has a built in converter as well. To test it just hook up the antenna and see what happens.

I have a 2005 300DA, and am not sure what TV you have. I had the small zenith flatscreen, which was analog only. It did work with a converter box. I have since switched it out for a 19" digital flat screen that's hard wired to 12v so you don't need the generator.

Any antenna will work.... Normal or marked as digital/HD... I never changed my glomax out, except to get the deteriorating cover replaced under warranty.

Here's a link to the TV upgrade post I did, if it helps.

    Cliff,

The old antenna was weathered and I was sincerely tired of the old saucer look as well. I have a new antenna installed, new cable from antenna to tv, new booster or amp above stove installed in that little cubby hole. The problem is the TV won't pick up a signal. Do I need a digital converter for this tv?

This is my question, is the 2005 280 Sundancer tv digital ready? Thanks

Sounds like I need to get a new digital tv and that would solve my problem... Next question, how do you lock that sliding tv shelf from moving while under way? Thanks James!

My shelf has a toggle latch that's hidden just inside and underneath the "handle" cutout (approximately behind the white sticker in the photos http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/458-300-Sundancer-questions?p=710084#post710084). The catch for the latch got out of adjustment on mine briefly but it was easily fixable. I've also had a couple rough rides where it slid out, as well as the swing arm once, but nothing unmanageable.

The 2005 280DA TV received analog signals only. You will need a digital converter or a new digital TV to get a picture. The Glomex you have will work with either.

Last fall I noticed that my port starter was about to leave me stranded...

This spring I had it changed... But now when I'm starting the port side motor, an alarm sounds. Alarm doesn't sound when I'm starting the starboard side... What could this be? Thanks in advance as always!

Re: Official 280 Sundancer Thread - Odor of Gas under cabin step

It turned out to be the gaskets for the screws holding the sending unit in place that had broken down. I changed the main gasket also. It took about 24 hrs of using a blower into the inspection hole to evacuate all the odor of gasoline. That plus a little Frebreze cured the problem.
I hope this can help someone else.

I looked all over, I'm just going to have to design something that works... The new tv is so light, I picked up the box with my pinky! lol

    Thanks for the info!

Got the Quantum radar installed today, will check it out this weekend... Installed all my LED bulbs too, only Nav lights not LED but not worried, will only use those when under way, so no BFD there! (this fricken site keeps skipping letters when I type, pita, wtf!)

    Where has everybody been?

    Hello all,
Purchased a 2003 280SD about a month ago and absolutely love this boat. Its a lake boat with 280 hours so its like brand new. I've previously owned a 240 sundeck, sunrunner 31 classic and a Checkmate Convincor 25 so I am able to compare. Spent the last month reading all 502 pages in this thread and have gained great knowledge about 280's. Thank you for this valuable tool. You keep writing ad I'll keep reading.

    Marty,

We just got our 2003 280SD about 7 months ago and getting use to it. Did a bunch of upgrades, canvas, radios, seats, etc... and now enjoying. Out in it about 3 times a week. Great boat. Small enough and big enough. Very easy to handle, and great for shallow water. Very economical and they are everywhere and very popular so easy to get parts and hire work for them.

I though the engine compartment would be impossible to work in, but it's not that bad... but tight.

Only slight negative is minimal cockpit storage.

    Fenders for swim platform?

    Does anyone make them?
I have a few times when backing into a pier to let someone off or load someone and don't want the swim platform to hit the barnacles on the pier. Docking sideway is an issue, too, because of the same reason, the poles holding the pier up are full of barnacles and would scratch the side of the boat unless I had a fender that went most of the length of the boat.

I have a few piers similar that I often go to.
