OFFICIAL 250 DANCER THREAD

Thanks Devildogae. Any idea how many gallons per hour you burn at that RPM / speed? We are planning a long weekend with some sightseeing and was trying to figure out what our fuel costs might be. I've heard anywhere from 1 mile per gallon to 5 miles per gallon...

Thanks,
I really dont know about the burn, but I can tell you I've read and believe at that RPM level your only using the primary jets and will get better fuel economy, the secondaries should open up after that. That's a rough estimate though.

Thanks,
I am thinking between 8-9 GPH as crushing speed

1997 Sea Ray Sundancer 250. I'm going through and want to replace all cabin bulbs with new LEDs. Anyone know what replacement bulbs I should be getting? Thanks in advance

I did this in 2014 for all the DC lights in the cabin. Bought the adapter base and bulbs from Amazon.

Tat was 5 years ago but there are newer options where the LED bulb is integrated into a bayonet style plug. THat's what I would try today. But measure the space in your light to make sure the bulb will fit.

Also I know there are discussions here about installing LEDs if you search.

1991 250DA fuel tank sending unit location.
Anyone know how to access it?
got gas yesterday, between 1/2 and 3/4 nozzle kept clicking off like in a car. now i overfilled sea ray tanks before and it came out the vent hole, this didnt it just kept clicking off the nozzle.
so i suspect my sending unit is way off.
Ideas?

Hello everyone, I have been keeping my '98 250 Sundancer trailered this season with about 5 day trips taking it in and out of the water each time. To my surprise I keep ending up with some water in the bilge. It can't be rain water or other fresh water from cleaning as it hasn't been outside in the rain or cleaned yet. It can't be from the fresh water tank leaking as I havent been using that. So now I am thinking either the bilge plug is leaking or the fresh water engine cooling system is leaking. I have taken the bilge plug out every time to drain the water once on the trailer and it doesn't look damaged or anything. I am not sure how to test/check the cooling system so I will have to speak to a mechanic I guess. Has anyone got any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello all! I'm fairly new here, but have been doing a lot of reading. We just purchased a 1996 250 Sundancer and took it out for the first time this past Saturday. I ran into a few issues and I am hoping some of you can help or at least put my mind at ease!
  • I cannot get the entertainment radio to come on. I checked all of the switches and pushed what I assume is a breaker at the helm under all of the switches.
  • At 3300 RPM the boat would do about 23 MPH. Does that sound right? Seems a little low.
  • The switch on the throttle to raise the drive does not work. It will go down just fine and it will raise when the "trailer" button is pressed. Bad switch?
  • The trim tabs take some getting used to! It was kinda scary at first the way it leaned over. I thought I was heeled over sailing again!
  • I only have 1 set of keys. I saw that I can order the cabin door key with the correct code. Where can I get another ignition key? It has a replacement motor, but the ignition looks like it's original
Sorry for the 20 questions!

Thanks,
This is a very late replay but i'm new here. Trim tabs i thought were faulty as well. Turned out to be a bad transom assembly and drive was listing all over the place at high speeds as a result. 6" inches of play up down and sideways under power tabs worked fine. If problem persists look into it especially if it was a salt water boat.

I have a 1996 250 Sundancer and need to have the cushions redone in the cockpit. How does one get the panel off to access the screws for the backrest cushion on the Port side?

Trim tabs take a while to get used to. Repowered 3 years ago and only get 3800 rpm at 32-35mph with 24 pitch props. Will try my 22 pitch props.

I used to have a 1997 250DA. Sold it years ago - unfortunately, I kind of regret that... Cleaning the garage today I noticed that I still have a brand new - essentially unused - cockpit carpet if anyone is interested. It is a large one piece section with a single cutout for the back table post. Free to a good home...

I will take you up on that! Would be fantastic!

Hey all! A couple of questions. We have an old VHF and antenna. Do people still have these or do you take them off and do something else?
What do you do for sonar/GPS capabilities? We have an ancient setup and need to upgrade.

The old VHF antenna is probably a Shakespeare and is probably still a good antenna. On the sonar/GPS side, I'd look for a good chart plotter that has a sonar available. Garmin has many that will fill the bill. If you upgrade your radio, you can tie that to your Garmin and hit an emergency button that will also send your location coordinates via radio so others can speed to your rescue. Garmin isn't the only brand that offers this, I just happen to have their chart plotter and it talks to my Icom radio. It also has sonar capabilities. The chart plotter helps anticipate the depth AHEAD of you and not after you are on top of it and it's too late. Figure what a couple of props cost and it will pay for itself rather quickly if you have a lot of shallow areas around.

Hello again! This is an amazing group and I have much to learn. Has anybody replaced the front hatch? Looking for a replacement hatch for our 87. The hinges are broken.
The hole size is 18w x 18.5L. What are others doing?

There is nothing there with our dimensions. And I checked with the chat helper. Nothing. My cut out is 17 3/4w by 18/1/2 L
Here's 2 more; https://www.boatoutfitters.com/doors-hatches-lids/deck-hatches https://www.fisheriessupply.com/ven...oc=4245064407 3997523572&sortKey=Most Popular
but at 35 years old it may be tough to find the exact size. Also, there are a lot more sources than the 3 I have posted so far, it's just gonna take some serious research.
Remember it's a lot easier to make the cutout bigger than to make it smaller. Best of luck in your search.

Wholesalemarine shows several sizes that suggest that a 17 inch hatch has a frame that is 19 7/16 x 19 7/16 so it would cover your hole in the deck. Not sure what you are measuring, if your hatch is currently in place or out. But this should work.

He all, does anyone have a link or pdf for a Good windlass model AFD? I need to install a new rode and was looking for instructions.

Can I just feed it through the hole and the gypsy will take it from there?
