Re: taking the plunge into a 240. Any advice before I commit?

looks good Eric, obviously the engine compartment needs a good clean up. There should be a rear bimini section for the camper if its like my 2000 model, yours has aircon, big plus in summer.
Great to know. I really hope nothing is missing in the rear camper cover as I do intend to camp on the boat frequently and in Fl, I need all the space I can get out of the elements.

With a little "elbow grease" you should have a nice ride! The extra batteries would be for the inverter, I'm guessing. Nice option to have. If I can do this right here are two pictures of my 2006 240DA. One showing the rear Bimini and the other with the camper canvas installed. I believe you will need both Bimini tops in order to use the full camper canvas. Maybe this boat has a 3/4 or 1/2 camper canvas?? Hope this helps.

Hi everyone. I had a chance to go look at the boat again yesterday. They are, still working in getting it ready for delivery next weekend but here are some pics of some of the hardware that is in the boat. Some of it looks custome installed like a huge aluminum tray that has two 8D batteries mounted directly in front of the engine. Still has the two starting batteries as well. One thing I notices is that it is supposed to have the camper enclosure but it only has one Bimini that only covers from the front of the cockpit to about half way back. Will that still allow for the camper cover to work properly. I did not find any additional support brackets. If it needs anything extra,I'd like to tell them to ask the seller if he still has them as the boat was just traded last week. It is a 2007 model that is going for 28,500.00. She looks a little rough but maybe you can see if there are any tell tell signs of problems from the pics before I make the commitment. http://s66.photobucket.com/user/emckissack/library/2007 Searay 240

Nice boat, you're gonna love it. I've had mine for 2 summers now and we (me and SWMBO) camp out for weeks at a time. ive done a few mods to mine. Ditched the microwave and stove and converted to storage. Added a stern rail. Installed a tv. V berth can be a bit too cosy for 2 so the Admiral sleeps in the mid berth

great comments so far. Does anyone see anything in the pics that may be suspect or that I may want to upgrade right off the start?

I think it depends on how you plan to use it.
Day trips, nights on the hook, in a marina etc.
Neccessity will be the mother of invention

Agree, all depends how you use the boat.

My approach is before the sart to upgrade, use it for a while... Learn the present systems onboard and first ensure all is good working condition. After a while, you will discover you (and your family) like to change/update/modify.

A great way to learn the board is cleaning, I can spend hours in engine compartment.. just taking my time and check if all fixed, how the cables, piping is running. Same counts for your general electronic, often people discover on the water a problem, but have no clue where the fuse box is or haven't proper equipment/spare parts...

Enjoy the season!

Hi guys. 2 more questions. I need the rear Bimini top for the 2007 240. Anyone have a used one they would like to get rid of/sell? Also. I need to replace one of the switches on the helm. It looks like a chrome stick with the light In the tip and controls the bilge light or something like that. It is with the row of switches to the right of the steering wheel. Is there a website that sells replacement OEM parts?
Thanks for the help.

we will be using the boat to mostly hang out on sandbars and camp overnight. 2 adults 1 7yo
what my biggest concern is if someone sees the components of the boat and sees something that doesn't look right, they could say somethin. Also after reading the thread, I know to look out for water overflow from the stock shower pump and may change it to the 260 pump in order to nip that in the bud. Stuff like that

Great to see you guys at Sand Island this weekend. What are the odds that we anchor right next to you? Very nice to meet you. Exciting stuff later...on Sunday, a Sundancer 380 ran over my bow anchor line and severed it after hitting our bow rail. Sigh. Anchor shopping now. :smt013

Yet ANOTHER coincidence - and perhaps an answer to your question about the switches. Only this afternoon, I helped a friend sell his 2008 Sport 185 and while testing everything prior to the buyers coming for a sea trial, two of his switches simply snapped at the screw down point due to them being brittle plastic. Replacements are 8-12 bucks each. Look here for examples: http://www.searay-parts.com/Lighted-tip-toggle-switch-s/121.htm

STRONGLY recommend if you swap one, you may as well do them all (like tires!). That's what my friend is doing before the new owner picks up the boat later this week. You can even match or change the tip colors between red, green or blue if you prefer. The wiring is simple- just blade connectors.

Don't have an extra rear bimini, sorry. But we love ours! Definitely recommend getting one!

Agree with the above! I have the same setup and you do need both bimini tops for the full camper enclosure.

Thx for the link. Exactly what I need. It was great meeting you as well. Sunday we anchored up at the same place and had a blast. Sorry to hear another boat ruffed yours up a bit. I will definitely be looking out for you in the next few weeks once I pick mine up.

See you out there! Look for the "Conch Republic" flag!

I would trim the carpet near the shower pump. It can wick water and soak the floor near the fridge. Since I did mine haven't had a problem. Seal with sicaflex or similar after trimming

slept overnight, and went to make breakfast coffee, had to do some fire fighting when the kiss hotplate burst into flames

Reach out to this member: spikeitaudi . Alvin lost his 240 during Hurricane Sandy but is still on this site AND he had canvas from the boat in his basement at the tim. He is looking to sell it at a VERY reasonable price.

Good luck!

Ah yes I had the same thing happen. Fun and games. That's why it's gone and the area used for storage now.

Had a fire as well when the seal let go with the butane. Kenyon replaced it with a combo electric/alcohol one with an adaptor sleeve. Known issue by them We only use the electric...

I have sent Kenyon an email, not sure what there international service will be like. Has anyone found a similar size replacement?

Cheers,
Stuart
