Official 215 Express Thread

Thanks guys!! We love it!! I grew up boating on Lake Cumberland in KY and it’s been almost 40 long years before I got another boat. Schools, Family, Children always seemed to take priority. (Plus an Ex who didn’t want one ). My new wife grew up on the after as well and is all about it. I can’t explain the feeling I got being out on the water. It’s like I was finally home. Took a little bit to get a feel for her, but had no issues pulling into the dock or on the trailer. Can’t wait for next Summer!!!

Have a question on the sliding door. Our 96 does not have a handle and it’s difficult to close easily. I found in the parts manual online a part - 700609 for a 2000. Would this work or I’ve seen some models with a longer stainless rail attached to open/close. Does anyone know anything about this or options?

You may have to do something custom and have someone bend a stainless steel rail or something of that nature. It shouldn't be that difficult to have done. I don't think the Weekender version like ours would fit out of the box.

You could order something like this style of grab handle and washer and bolt it from the back. It would probably work out nicely and would be relatively inexpensive. Just be sure after you drill your bolt holes, to chamfer the gel coat wider than the holes so you don't get spider cracks from opening and closing the door. I would probably add washers to 'both' sides of the door to relieve some strain on the gel coat.

OllieC,

Thank You, I just actually got off the phone with our local dealer and he suggested same thing. Sea Ray Part is like $150ish. He said just buy a 9” grab rail and bolt it up with the washers as well. Good tip on chamfering the holes. How much would you think?

I have a 2004 225 weekender, does anyone know if it has wood or fiberglass under the carpet in the head compartment?

Pretty sure it’s all rough glass - shouldn’t be wood. If you’re asking because of the potty issue, you should be okay and not have absorption into wood.

Cool, thanks:)

Have a question, we got our boat out a few weeks ago and never really noticed this when we bought it but when I was up front on the bow ( to the left and right of hatch) the deck seemed to have some give. It was extremely hot though (98-102) and had been in the Sun all day. I’m about 265 and my wife is about 145 and she said she felt it as well but didn’t seem too bad for her. Is this something that is normal?

Unfortunately, it sounds like deck core rot. When is the last time the deck hatch was pulled and resealed? That's something that should be done every so often.

Pull the deck hatch out and check out the coring. If you're lucky, you'll get it before it extends too far and can ream out the bad stuff and replace. But... you should know that the affected area you THINK it will be... is going to be three times as large.

Hi new to this forum new to this type of boat used to have a bowrider. I taking this boat out and Nantucket sound five times already this year it has an incredible ride I love this bow 2006 to 215 weekender with the 260 horse 5 l EFI I put it in the water I turn the switch to on wait a few seconds click the key starts right up Don't touch the throttle it is a very very smooth riding boat for its size unbelievable love it very much

Yes, it’s very capable. It can get you out of some snotty weather if you get caught in it.

Nantucket sound? That area kicks up big time in the afternoon with a SW wind. You won't see 215's out there .

Not sure what part your talking about, I'm over by Hyannis harbor. Gammins point can be brutal, people die there ,

I should have prefaced, “ it depends on your area”.

I don’t go when it’s crappy out or to places that are known to get rough. It may be bigger than a lake runabout, but it’s still a fair weather boat. It’s no fun being piss pounded.

I got stuck on Superior in 4’-6’ with and occasional 8’ toward the end and it scared the hell out of me. 30 mins took 3 hrs. I was tacking toward islands before going into our bay. I stuffed the bow a couple of times. They were confused seas, like being in a washing machine. I don’t recommend it. Anytime there’s a small craft advisory, even if it’s glass, I will not leave our bay.
Capable yes - dedicated off-shore, no.

I go from bass river over to egg island, Lewis bay area. So far so good even in my 18 foot Larson BR
