Official 215 Express Thread

Mine is not wired to the battery or battery switch. 2 wires on the battery switch, and the only additional wire on the battery is the power feed for the amp.

Found the fuse, it's mounted on the bulkhead between the bilge and fuel tank right in front of the crank pulley. There is also a fuse for the stereo in the same spot. All good now!

All of my other boats had canvas/isinglass that used snaps. The isinglass that came with the 215 has a plastic rib that snaps into the windshield frame which I am not familiar with. How do you install the 5 panels into the track? I just had all the isinglass replaced and don't want to damage them.

you can spray some silicone lubricant on the rubberr ribs on the windows to help them slide to the tracks....I used a rubber mallet to 'persuade' the ribs to fasten into the tracks.....

as much as I loved my 215EC i absolutely hated installing the camper canvas......sometimes it took me 2 - 3 hours and then it never really fit right because it was VERY tight on the frames......

Ok, so they slide in, they don't snap in to the channel?

The vinyl/plastic rub/track setup is an ongoing controversy. Sea Ray used that setup for quite some time - not just in the 215, but larger boats, too. Personally, I prefer this over the snaps as you end up with a cleaner look and a better (weathertight) seal. It would typically take me an honest 5 minutes to put up the canvas on my 215 or 260. Maybe 7. But that's a debate for another day! :smt001

So... here are some tricks and tips, in addition to the silicone spray or vinyl protectant.

-- Yes, they do "snap" in. But after they're in, you can slide the whole thing left of right to better center it. The silicone/vinyl protectant helps in making the ribs snap in easier, and also with sliding it.
-- Start your zippers (the bimini zippers) a few inches. Just enough to get the windows hanging there.
-- Now, look closely at the rib. One "edge" of the "T" is longer than the other. That's the upper edge. Put that edge in first. Then, while keeping upward pressure on that, use your thumb or heel of your hand to push the bottom rib in. Cold weather definitely makes things harder, but it will "pop" into the window channel.
-- Go as far as you can with that, then come back and do your zippers.
-- Don't forget to extend the rear leg of the bimini before starting, then collapse the rear leg when everything is done.
-- The rear canvas is a piece of cake since it doesn't need to be stretched tight. Do that last.

Thank you!! Awesome info!

Oh, one more question... what size cooler came with the 215? I've been finding different sizes listed. Thanks again!

Yer welcome! 36qt.

I actually ended up keeping mine under the starboard jump seat. I felt it was more out of the way and it fit perfectly. Do you currently have the chocks in the floor?

Yes they are there. So a 36qt it is!

a 36 qt. Igloo cooler will fit perfectly.....but like Dennis I kept the cooler under the rear jump seat on the starboard side....this kept the cooler out of the sun and significantly increased the time the cooler kept ice.....plus it opened up a little floor space in the cockpit.....I removed the floor chocks and when I had new carpet made I covered that area as well.....

Not sure if this helps, but when I ordered my Canvas Camper Package from GL for my Weekender, they sent windshield canvas clips that allowed me to use snaps. They attach directly into the channel. Then you add the snaps to the canvas. I personally prefer these because I am always removing the isinglass - or flipping it up on top of the Bimini on warm days. http://rnr-marine.com/images/DOT-Snap-Windshield-Clips.jpg

hope this helps

I like the look with no snaps. If it fights me in the spring then I'll consider adding them.

What is this valve for?

It's not a gray water system since there doesn't appear to be another hose to redirect the sink water to a holding tank. My "guess" would be that it was installed by a previous owner because they boated, at least occasionally, on a restricted lake where they weren't allowed to discharge anything overboard. Those lakes often require some mechanical means of restricting the thru-hulls and this was the previous owner's way of doing it.

Ahh, didn't think of that. Thank you!

Your welcome!

Or, it could be that the previous owner used the sink as a cat litter box while on the water, and then opened the valve to flush the sink out once he got home. :smt001
