Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Does anyone know where the Digital Sounder Module is located on the 2003 340 SDA? I'm getting an intermittent "sonar not available" message and i'm hopping my problem is the hsb2 connection at the DSM250... but i can't locate it.

Mine is located behind the small compartment to the right of the driver seat. Where the cup holder is. YOu need to remove the 4 screws to get to it

For my 340, I replaced the existing Waeco Coolmatic RDP-0110U refrigerator with a new Isotherm Cruise 130 Inox (from Defender). For the most part, not too bad; takes about two beers to change out.
The refrigerator ships with a flange. The flange needs to come off to get through the cabin door. The refrigerator ships with feet. The feet need to come off to get in the opening. The top of the opening needs a notch cut (about 1/4" high by 1-1/2-inch wide) to allow the bar for the door hinge to get in. Fits like a glove, and looks great.

That looks fantastic! Nice job.

ugh, spring commissioning and nothing work :(.
  • generator will run for one minute then shut off
  • fresh water leak from the lazurette spigot
  • AC pump doesn't pump water
  • Toilet won't hold vacuum and cycles endlessly
  • ended up breaking the starboard seacock while trying to close it to clean the strainer now I have no raw water the engine.

looks like june is shot waiting for a slot to get it looked at ....hope I can still salvage July

Sorry to hear about all this incl carpet
Times like this you just want to walk away and get a blow up dinghy haha

With re to the AC, I had the same issue and was given a heap of tips and advice.
It happens when I take my 375/340DA 2005 out of the water , it doesnt prime.
Taking the boat out on a good run seems to resolve the issue each time however the other way is to stick a garden hose into the outlet and see if that helps. This should be the least of your issues out of your list

Defender.com located in Connecticut is selling for $1235 US (plus a $50 membership fee). Still a good deal. Shipping across the US to my state of Washington was expensive at $300 US, but it was pretty fast.

Thanks heaps.thats about double in Australia. might just stick with std one for now until fails as only cosmetic at moment.

Thanks again

Ok Guys, I know some of you have to fish off of these boats. Have you found anyway to mount some rod holders while trolling that does not look tacky. I have seen the suction cups but I don't put much faith in them. I cringe at the idea of mounting anything to the fiberglass.

Have a safe Fourth of July everyone! This year I’m crossing a trip off the bucket list, headed to block island next week very very exited!!!

Have a safe trip, I am jealous. We'll be dockside for the Fourth. Both engines are down pending get my alternators done. Waiting on new brackets as one bolt will not release.

Oh crap that’s terrible, sorry to hear. Did I drill it out?

Has anyone swapped their Mercury Smartcraft display for a GPS/Chartplotter? Can you view engine and vessel data on the GPS display as you could with the Smartcraft Display?

The VesselView Mobile that techmitch points to is what I just installed (
Mercury Smartcraft Vessel View Mobile Kit 8M0115080 - New/ OEM - iOS or Android ) which is best installed into your Smartcraft Junction Box behind your gauges ( mine was only a 6 port which was filled and I never had vesselview in my 04 340, I had to install an 8 port box, easy replace just unplug all from old box and plug all into new box, my 6 ports full consisted of 1-Power 2-Port Engine 3-StarboardEngine 4- PortTach 5-Speedometer 6-StarboardTach ). If you remove your vesselview then you likely have a port,
I wanted to keep my existing smartcraft gauges so I bought 8 port box (
New Mercury Mercruiser Quicksilver Oem Part # 878492K18 Junction Box Kit, there is a cheaper version of this box that doesn’t come with dust 4 dust covers for unused ports as this did, i was in a rush so got this one, other one ends in T18 I think instead of K18)
)to move into. Then you just plug and hook up to Bluetooth from the Mobile device app, I tested on both my iPad and iPhone. Hardest part was realizing that you don’t search for the device on your Bluetooth as you do for most other things, rather you just bring up the app and let it find it. Didn’t show up on my Bluetooth scans for devices but as soon as I brought up the app the app sees it fine. I just did this this week, tested it, shows the info from both engines, logs faults .. I played.. seems nice. Documents techmitch pointed to describe details. I’m a fan of it. Cost me $225 for the vesselview Mobile. $133 for the 8 port box. And I have a 6 port box to sell now. I’ll just add I did look into doing exactly what you ask and you’d need the same free/unused junction box port and this to hook to you chartplotter names 2000 network (
New OEM Mercury NMEA 2000 Gateway Module - Part # 8M0151748 / 8M0165589 ). If I ever have $400 that I want to burn I’d buy that and plug into my 8th port and have Gauges on my Garmin, it’ll be years before I start burning money :) I have a hard time ( need glasses) to read the smartcraft gauges was my main reason for wanting the vvmobile. Only thing I didn’t see was depth. ( saying it might not display all of I gotta program it yet idunno ) when hunting for functions in it, I only have about 15 minutes into it, finished install tested and ran home. I like it !

I did it with the mercury gateway module and NMEA 2000 feeding both vesselview and garmin 742. Did not work. Only way it would work is to disconnect either vesselview or gateway from junction box. Both together no go. Currently using garmin as a speedometer and chartplotter. Not a problem because both the garmin and gateway will go back on the pontoon this winter.

I tried to drill it out in the boat until the easy-out was so far in and so large that it would catch on the alternator since the bolt was almost gone. Since I removed the bracket I have the alternator and bracket off the boat on my bench. It's been soaking with PB blaster since weekend and even hammering on the back side of the bolt is not producing any movement. So still waiting on a bracket.

Another one of those - should have been a simple job. BTW, the port side was much better and I was eventually able to get the bolt out.

Wow what a nightmare, yes def supposed to be a simple swap. Sorry to hear pal. Hopefully you’ll be back out there soon enough. Running to westhampton tomorrow and then block Monday

What a fun morning. Been fighting the generator on my 2006 340. It would run for 5 mins then shut down. Changed out the impeller, flushed out the exchanger, then when I went to clean the strainer, the cap top broke right off. So now I am at home with the broken top piece, but no part number. Could someone take a look at their cap and tell me what the part number is? My piece is 2 3/4" diameter without the ears. I know it is a Groco, just need to know which cap.
