Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

As fellow 340 lovers, would love your opinions on post for sale of mine. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

Boat looks very good. One suggestion I do have is to clean your bilge... the center section is black and looks like it’s full of oil.

the first thing I do when looking at a potential boat for sale is to check the bilge.
A dirty bilge will directly impact the price I’m willing to offer

Trim tab Anode Question !!!
I’m in freshwater/lake Erie .
I have magnesium anodes
BUT !!!TRIM TAB ANODES , TOP AND BOTTOM of the tabs ???
Or just top !!!i believe
SR just puts them on the top of the
tabs . I see them both ways .
just a thought , but wouldn’t the running surface be obstructed with anode bulge on bottom.

run them on both sides won't obstruct anything

Can anyone tell me what this switch is for?

That is the switch for the fresh water system on many smaller boats. It is not used as mentioned above on the 340s, although it is a powered circuit. When activated, it powers a circuit out of the forward EIM under the steering wheel. If you have schematics to your circuitry, you can trace the wire number / fuse that it controls or take a test light as I did and turn the switch on and off (using a helper is easiest) and touch each fuse circuit until you find the one it activates. You can then use it as an accessory switch. I used mine to power my auto pilot.
There is also Accs 1 / 2 / forward / aft switches on the panels that operate wires out of the forward and aft EIMs. There are wires coming out of the harness budle that are about 10 inches or so long and terminated that those switches operate. They could also be also be already used if you have options installed by SR or the PO.

Thanks, that's helpful.

Looking to do the same on my boat. What size boat hooks and sail shade?
Thanks,Eddie

Sorry for the late reply ...I believe it was an 8x8 on sail shade. No idea what size the hooks are ...1&1/4"? I made a thread about it ..I'll see if I can find it.

I use bilge cleaner and a pressure washer (with a low pressure nozzle) with no ill effects. You just have to be a little careful. Use a spray bottle to spray the bilge cleaner everywhere, let soak, and hose off LIGHTLY. Vacuum excess water out with shop vac, wipe down heavier soiled areas with a paper towel. Avoid the bulkhead where all your electrical are.

I use spray bottle with Awesome Stuff cleaner. Spray it on, use brush to loosen dirt and then suck it up with a wet/dry vac. Then follow that with a 303 dampened microfiber and wipe down. Comes out quite nice. First time took a while, but once clean only a half hour or so to freshen it up.

I wash down my engine compartments each spring and fall. Light spray and some degreaser, scrub it and then rinse it off. I try not to spray the electrical components directly but I do get them wet. Then I shop vac the water out and wipe every down with towels.
Here’s how my engine bay looked on my 340da when I sold it.

The space with I/O’s is truly astonishing. Changing an impeller ..not such a big deal!

Absolutely. Mine is dry unless in a really heavy rain. As soon as a leak appears, I hunt it down n fix it.
Working on my 340, with drives And really close to as clean as Jeremy's is way easier than on a friend's with inboards. Impellors about an hour each motor. Downfall, gotta take extra good care of the drives to stay away from costly repairs.

Thanks for the engine cleaning tips ,
I will just use light pressure and not on wires or electrical.
I was thinking of using armor all wipes, or tire wet sprayed in a rag , then wipe on the grayish looking hoses , and air cleaner covers , of course
Nothing on the belts ,
