Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Hey guys, I have the "all sport" package on my boat. More than happy to take pictures of whatever you want. Honestly though, on my opinion it's kind of a waste. There's a reason they only made it 2 years. Three trolling motor that came with it is underpowered for such a high sided boat and heavy boat. My old man's 2016 19' skeeter walleye boat is almost 750 pounds lighter than my 190 ob. Also I pretty much just have all the panels for the flat top and love well taken out and up in the rafters with the trolling motor and seats. Don't get me started on all the snaps for the seat cushions, a lot of mine are busted from the first owner from undoing them getting to all the storage areas. The spx is a great pleasure boat, and like I tell my wife, you can fish out of anything, but it's definitely not a great platform for it.

Goooooood morning and Thanks for such an informative - and well-informed - perspective @Keg17; I learned a lot reading your reply not the least of which is the realization the all sport was only an option for 2 years …

And a belated Memorial Day shout-out of Thanks to all you Veterans!

We have a 210 which we purchased for watersports. I have a good friend who loves to fish, but does not have a boat and has been begging me to take him out fishing in it. I took him out last weekend and he keep asking me questions about things a fishing boat would have on it, such as how slow will it go, does it have a live well for bait. I got home and told me wife, it is not a fishing boat, it is a sports boat.

… it is a sports boat.

You’re a good buddy and I had to chuckle and will relay these most recent discussions TO the two teen males joining us today - with their mom and 5yoa little sister - for their second ever boating experience - and first time ever tubing on a Big Mable pulled behind my wife’s 190 …

On their first visit last month the boys inquired about fishing off the wife’s boat (I’m the jet ski half of the equation with 3 on the dock at present and a 4th possible next year) and momma instantly nipped that discussion (as she always does, lol!)

Anyhoo, hopefully, and I predict; the youngsters are going to have so much fun today they will be happy using the Jon boat or canoe we have for eventual fishing someday.

PS - Anyone know WTHeck they’re putting in the water or milk these days - the 13yoa joining us today is 6’ tall and wears SIZE 15 shoes!!!!! How is that even possible?!!!!!!!

Hey All, we've finally taken the plunge and picked up a 2022 SPX190 with the MerCruiser 4.5L MPI ECT Alpha I (200 hp). We scuffed up the prop this past weekend so we're looking to replace it and send the scuffed one for refurbishing. Any suggestions on a replacement? We're mostly doing water sports, cruising, and a little bit of fishing now and then. TIA.

Welcome! And, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Here is a (hopefully) helpful link I came across and saved when I was shopping for a replacement for my wife’s outboard 150 … (see pages 4, 5 and top of p. 8 for good general info …):

https://www.generalpropeller.com/pdf/QS_Prop_Guide.pdf

I took the easy way out and simply ordered her a direct replacement as speed in getting something delivered to our door was # 1 priority (our primary concern was my being able to do a “NASCAR-esque” prop change should something untoward occur in the middle of a visit by family or friends who delight in being pulled around the lake on any of the various towables in our “tube stable” …)

I sorta regret that haste now as:
A) she likes doing hole shots;
B) pulling towables is “the most important” activity we do; and,
C) every fisherman who happens by the dock when I’m down there points out how our stock, aluminum prop “flexes” and I should buy her a stainless prop …

I will wait until you get your query answered by the more knowledgeable here before I post any questions, though … (will give me time to shift funds from buying ammo to save up for stainless blades, haha!)

I've tried that first link but my engine isn't on there.

Oh, I see that “Prop Selector” only runs up to 2021 and indeed it looks like your engine is new - very impressive and if it even approaches the home run Merc hit with their other recent innovations (i.e., their 4-stroke 150) then, “Congratulations!” are in order again!

Dang, I am turning up empty but, I am not the most knowledgeable to even be searching - if you don’t get an answer from one of the truly knowledgable here, you may want to contact Mercury directly and see if they can give you some guidance … no doubt the prop(s) you have to choose from already exist:

We replaced ours with a Mercury Enertia. Most awesome prop I ever ran. We picked up 3 mph top end, better hole shot and 10% better fuel economy. Wholly mackerel, what a prop.

Ours is the 150 OB, so I can't give you a pitch selection. When you get her broken in, provide WOT rpm and gps speed and any new prop can be dialed in.

Dannnnnnng!

LOL, I opened the photo and started going “Mm!” , “MMMM!” and the wife grabbed my phone thinking someone had sent me a pinup or centerfold shot!

Hello,

I have a 2015 SPX 190 with a Mercury 150HP FourStroke. The motor will trim up but not down. I used the manual release to lower the motor (I checked trim fluid level while trimmed all the way up first, which was fine).

Anyway, I’d like to troubleshoot or replace the trim relays. Anyone done this? The relays appear to be located under the port side plastic panel under the motor cover (same plastic panel that has all the maintenance information on it). I thought I’d ask before I try to remove the panel and possibly mess up something.

Hey All!

Thinking its time to upgrade from a Single Axle to a Tandem Axle trailer for my SPX 190 OB. The single axle is fine for taking to local waters on short trips, but our adventures are taking us further and would just like some more security back there while towing long distances. I have seen some comments on here the the Karavan single axle that comes with the boat from the factory is basically as small as you would want to go for the boat and maybe even under sized.

We had a blow out on the interstate over the weekend (which happens) but the axel also slipped back on the leaf spring. Boat needed to be loaded onto a flat bed and hauled to a shop and have the trailer repaired. After this experience, I think it is time to be a little safer back there.

So, with that being said, just wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has made this upgrade. If so, what set up did you go with? Make, Model or trailer? Bunk or Roller?

For those of you that had the tandem come with the boat, what make and model do you have?

Right now, I am looking at a Shoreland'r tandem. Also, trying to decide if I should go with bunks or rollers. I got a quote on a bunk for $7350 (Shoreland'r B40TBBLW) and rollers for $6690.00 (Shorelander SLXR40TBBLW). Rollers are usually more expensive, but I think it is just a product of supply and demand right now.

Any input provided is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Cheers. - Jon

Ran a tandem for 35 years. Never again. The stock 190 OB trailer has adequate capacity. Look at the specs. Can't stand bunks, so we had the dealer upgrade to a full set of rollers before we would ever take delivery. Cost me big bucks, but well worth it. We had extra rollers installed, so each roller can be turned by hand. Less stress on the hull than bunks.

Blowouts are due to several reasons. Cheep chinacrap tires, not running the proper pressure, or keeping the tires too long. ST tires are crap, even the good ones. Don't look at sidewall cracks like we used to do. Simply replace the tires when they are 3 years old.

Also, look at the tire serial numbers. Some times you might buy tires that are already 2 years old. Time to replace the next year.

Its not the olden days. Forget what you used to do.

GypsmJim,

Thanks for your input. The blowout isn't necessarily why I am looking at a tandem. I have been considering it since I bought the boat and found this forum. The specs are exactly why I am looking at a tandem. They don't add up for me but maybe I am looking at something wrong?

Here are the specs for the trailer that came with the boat from SeaRay:

2018 Karavan - Model #SR-3100-DB-78-ST
Carrying Capacity: 3100 LBS
Axel Load Capacity: 3750 lbs

Here are the weights for the boat, motor and accessories:
Boat Dry Weight: 2754 lbs
Motor Dry Weight: 455 lbs Merc 150 Four Stroke
30 Gal Fuel: 185 lbs
Terrova Trolling Motor: 55 lbs
Deep Cycle 1: 47 lbs
Deep Cycle 2: 47 lbs
Starter Battery: 37 lbs
Anchor: 30 lbs
Towables, Misc: 200 lbs
TOTAL: 3810 LBS

I am WAY over the Carrying Capacity of the trailer and also over the axle load capacity.

As far as the bunks vs. rollers, I think that is personal preference. I have owned 3 boats over 20 years and have had bunk trailers with all of them with no issues at all. I have heard from a few people that some fiberglass boat manufacturers will void the warranty if the boat is stored on a roller trailer. I am not sure what SeaRay's warranty is on this issue though.

Can I ask why you would never again run a tandem? I am taking this boat on 400-500 mile round trips about 4-5 times a summer on top of 50-80 mile round trip 6-8 times a summer. That security of have an extra set of tires back there in the middle of nowhere is another reason I am considering a tandem.

Thumbnails of trailer and axle tags attached.

As always, thanks for any comments and input in advance...

It was my understanding that the 2754 included the engine and standard components. If your trolling motor and related parts were aftermarket, then I can see your point. Regardless, ours is a 2019 model and it came with a 3400# trailer, so in my case I'm not worried.

The only reason I previously bought a tandem was because it was slightly narrower than the std. single, and thus was the only way I could fit it thru my narrow garage door. Hated it. Trying to maneuver it by hand in the garage was impossible. Twice as many bearing to maintain. If you DO get a flat, now the other tire is carrying twice the weight and it may blow as well. As far as road worthiness, I personally don't detect any difference.
