Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Okay I have a question regarding purchase of 19 SPX. Outboard 150HP or I/O? I will always use it in fresh water. I wonder about how quiet? Concerned about I/O vibration and noise. Concerned about low speed I/O wandering if it is an issue on this boat. I think the I/O looks better and has more room on the back but I don't mind the outboard. Which handles chop better? I am thinking the I/O would given the heavy slightly front payload as compared the the load of an outboard sitting on the outside rear of boat. Also planing. I dont want it to ride a wheelie with the bow in the air while planing. I like smooth planing boats. Tough decision since I cant test drive either one. Anyone have experience in both?

I went with the I/O based on the cleaner lines and uninterrupted swim platform. I didn't even consider the outboard. The I/O is a solid power package. The new 4.5L Mercruiser is drama free and if propped correctly for what you want, you won't have planing issues.

In my situation it is my 2nd boat that we use during the week after work getting the kids out skiing and tubing. Our 340da is 45min from us making evening trips after work no very doable. I have enough upkeep on the 340 so I wanted the outboard for it ease of maintenance. Also I am in salt water with it some of the time so I wanted the ease of flushing with the outboard and didn't want to have to deal with changing manifolds in a tight engine compartment.

That being said and you using it in fresh water I think the stern drive would be just as easy maintenance wise. It sounds like to me the I/O seems more attractive to you so I wOils go that route.

So, I went ahead and added the table/mount to my 19 SPX. Nice to have a place to set down food while eating.

Looks good.

Ok everyone - I've been holding off posting this b/c who knows what type of can of worms it will open - but here goes:

Who knows what the difference is between the 200HP and 250HP versions of the new Mercruiser 4.5L engines (besides 50HP)???

Is there any physical difference or is it simply ECU based? I'm thinking there has to be away to mod the 200HP version to unleash the additional 25% power.

The only thing I've found online is this third party device that looks like something Doc Brown built and works by tricking the inputs to the ECU: http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detail/dyno-boost-boat-performance-chip/mercruiser/4-5l-200-hp

Does anyone have any inside information or know anyone that works for Mercury? I can't be the only one wondering this.

I would be concerned about the possibility of voiding your Mercruiser warranty.

I've wondered the same thing and from what I can find it is the same engine. I agree with Bridog though about the warranty.

Hi everyone I am picking up my 2017 190spx ob in two weeks. Is there any problematic areas I should look out for? When I picked up my bayliner element my back seats flew out and got damaged. Trying to save myself that aggravation. I was also thinking about after the break-in period switching to a four blade prop. Has anyone done this on a 150 4 stroke ob? And what size? And what was your experience in doing so compared to the 3 blade..

Congrats, they are a great boat. If you read back in this thread someone has found a weak spot on the port side companion seat. It isn't supported properly and one other person had the screws pull out. I haven't looked at the problem on my boat yet as I am still shrink wrapped but I will take a look at it this spring. Other than that I have not seen or heard of any issues.
I went with a 4 blade prop and went down a pitch because I use the boat for towing a lot with a full load of people. The four blade will help with tracking around the docks and help with holes shot and getting on plane and holding plane at a lower speed. I have a mercury Vensura 17p. I think the motor could have handled the 19p because I can over rev it with the 17p but I was looking for pulling power so for me going down a pitch was the right call.

Have fun with the boat.

Mikewires, congratulations on the new boat! Your going to love it. I know I do. I'd suggest waiting until you get a few hours in before thinking of changing props out. You may be pleased with the boat "as is" ;)

So I got the shrink wrap off the boat today and noticed what appears to be a gasket leaking grease on the sterndrive. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem here is??? I'll be taking it back to the shop that winterized it of course but in the meantime would love to get your thoughts..
