Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

The ride is simply the nature of the beast. My issue was that when the waves got too big I'd have to slow down, and then lose plane. It was a constant struggle to keep the throttle moving.

I added a DoelFin and it completely solved the problem. It planes atv a lower speed and stays on plane.

Trim tabs won;t improve the ride, per se', and no way I'll drill 16 holes in my boat's transom to mount them.

Tabs will allow you to run a slower speed and keep the bow from bouncing, thereby helping to keep the sharper bow "V" slicing through the water as opposed to the shallower keel "V". Before you do that, though... if you haven't already, experiment with more down trim. Not so much that you're pushing the bow down into the water, of course.

If you're not concerned with being able to control the tabs (or just want to keep your expenditure down), look in Smart Tabs.

I looked up the Doelfin. Looks like an easy install that doesn’t involve drilling into the hull. I’m gonna give it a shot. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hello!

Has anyone added any LED lighting to the cockpit or the bow? Just wondering what locations you did, and more importantly how and where your ran the wiring?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I bought my SPX 190 OB used a few years back. Perfect boat for me and my family. Mine had the captain’s/helm seat without flip up bolster. On a whim, I was looking around eBay and found one with a flip up bolster that matched my boat’s upholstery color. What a difference. The standard seat is garbage. The flip up bolster seat is amazing. Just saying. If you are encumbered by the seat w/o flip up bolster, consider replacing.

Our 190 does have the bolster seat. I have yet to put the bolster up. The flat glass windshield along with the black dash makes for a perfect forward view with no distortion or glare. If I sat up higher it would probably blow my hat off.....LOL.

Yes, even sitting is better and a little higher. The non-bolster version sits too low. I am 5’ 9” and struggled to get a view over the bow with the standard seat. I was using a cheap small fishing seat on top to boost me up a bit. It moved around from time to time and wasn’t a great solution. I actually enjoy sitting and driving the boat now.

The ignition on my SPX 190 OB spins around. Sometimes the key inserts up, sometimes down. This caused a small accident last weekend when my daughter was driving the boat. She could not start the motor and ran into shallow water. We do have the All Sport package and quickly dropped the trolling motor and trolled out to deeper water. The trolling motor propeller got dinged up but no part of the boat hull or motor hit anything. That was lucky.

Anyway, that ignition switch design is flawed. Watch for this and hopefully if yours comes loose you will think to insert the key upside down. Like in the case of my daughter, the solution may not be immediately obvious the first time it happens.

Mine was that way when I took delivery. If you reach behind the ignition switch (through that opening under your steering wheel) there is a adjustable ring on the back that you can tighten up. No more moving around.

Yes, like Brian mentioned, it's just a matter of re-tightening the retaining nut on the back side. Boats vibrate and things sometimes work their way loose. As a boat owner, it's recommended to go around and check various things every so often.

FYI... tossing the anchor is another idea to quickly stop you from getting into trouble. Ideally, the anchor should be quick and easy to get to and not underneath other things.

Oh... there's also a, "anti-rotate kit" that Sea Ray has made available for the models of the past few years - it requires dash panel removal/a shallow hole being drilled on the backside/install of a pinned locking grommet. Check with your local dealer.

This group is extremely helpful. With this, installing my bow speakers and countless other tips. Thank you.

Do you guys think the second captain's seat is worth $1000? I forgot to add my bow filler cushion to my build and am calling the dealer tomorrow. The second captain's seat I was a little torn on, I'm sure I could still order it. If the regular is comfortable enough, that's fine. Though they'll be sitting right beside a blaring speaker.

Truth is, it doesn't matter what we think. Which seating plan works best for YOU and those using the boat. Is there another person involved in the boat decision - what is his/her thoughts?

Well, it kind of does. You guys own the boat I bought so you'll have input, lol. I bought sight unseen.

My spouse won't care. The standard seat looks comfy enough. My mother won't care either but would probably like the captain's chair. Friends won't care and I don't care if they do, lol. Does the dune vinyl get hot? I had white specified but then realized it's going to be Dune...which looks great against the Lagoon Blue. If the standard seat is comfortable enough, I will probably stick with it. If the dune gets extra hot from the sun, someone please let me know.

Also this is worth mentioning re: seating: I won't ever have more than 6 people out on it (4 guests), even though you can pack 10. I don't want to be a huge target for the lake cops who are ruthless plus everyone gets so wasted and I have to sit there sober, lol. The captain always ends up being the babysitter.

I would recommend getting your wife involved with the decision. Present the pos/neg of each (easy enough to look at/figure out). She may care more than you know, especially once she understands the differences. One thing not as easy to figure out if you're new to boating is that a bucket seat is more comfortable/secure in choppy conditions.

The dune definitely gets warmer - not sure if I'd called it "extra" hot, though. Some might, though.

I would assume Sea Ray would use some sort of anti-reflect stuff for the darker colored vinyl to minimize the heat. Spouse is fine with all of it, no worries there lol. We spent years on that old 1900CC ocean boat never any comfort issues....while this is a lake boat meant for getting comfy on.

The convertible bench is great when you need to turn around and watch skiers or tubers. As long as the second captains chair spins around, you’ll be fine. I like the bench seat and the extra capacity if I need it. With the second captains chair, it’s like every other boat. ….well you wanted my opinion.
