Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

We’re about 2-1/2 hours northeast of y’all - in Connelly Springs! South shore of wee Rhodhiss Lake!

Thanks Jeremy, What prop brand and model did you go with?

It is a Mercury prop, I think it is the enertia. It is a SS 4 blade prop. I had a Merc Revolution 4 on one of my previous boats which I loved but they didn’t make the 17” pitch I was looking for when I bought this prop. Overall it is a good prop and I am happy with the results.

If you stayed with the 17" pitch, than changing to a 4 blade 17" should get the results I am looking for which is better acceleration for tubing. No need to go to a 16" 4 blade.

Keep in mind you have a heavier and longer boat than mine with the same engine. I went down 1" pitch when going to a 4 blade in order to get the low end performance I was looking for. My boat came with an 18" Aluminum 3 blade

OK, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was thinking yours came with the 17" prop also. So looks like I should go with a 16" pitch with 4 blades. Ummm.... SS or Aluminum? Thinking definitely SS.
16" 4 blade SS should do the trick.

This thread has piqued my interest since I intend to switch from aluminum to SS. Haven't run aluminum in 40 years.

Our 2019 SPX 190 OB / 150 Merc only has 30 minutes on the clock from the dealer's demo ride, so I really don't have any hard data. All I know it that she peaked at 47 mph, didn't get rpm data, and it started to snow 30 minutes after backing her into the garage. (It's going to be a long Winter)

However, she came with a 14.5 x 19 Black Max aluminum prop. I wonder why it was different than your 18". Also, an Enertia is a 3 blade prop according to Mercury's web site.

Based on what I have heard, I think a 4-blade might be the way to go. At this point I can't say what needs to be improved, so we'll just have to wait and see.

In any event, keep us all posted with all your results...

I just took a look and I had the model incorrect, it is a Vensura 17” 4 blade. With this prop and pitch the motor will over rev, meaning it will go beyond rated max RPMs so you do need to be careful. I went with this prop because we use the boat mostly for towing and we often have a lot of people in the boat at the Same time so I wanted to not have any issues with power while doing this. I also wanted to take some stress off the motor knowing I would be pushing it hard on the low end of the RPM range often.

Please bear with me as I haven't bought a new prop in many years. Since I switched to SS I haven't even put a ding in one. I can see that the design and engineering has moved light years ahead.

Looking at Mercury's prop selector it looks like the Vensura is a good choice. I understand that 4 (or 5) blades improves hole shot and mid range performance, but I thought it also improved stern lift to keep the bow down during acceleration.

But the book credits the Vensura with improved bow lift for rough water. Isn't that somewhat contradictory?

Did you also have the stock Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 Head unit installed?

I asked the dealer about this and they flat out told me no it’s not prewired and quoted me @$450 to buy/install two speakers.

Thanks!
I finally broke down and started cutting, and sure enough the wiring was already there.

Installed Mercury Vessel View Mobile the other day. Relatively inexpensive for some valuable info. And extremely simple to install. Took a screen shot while running yesterday.

Finally (as in, fer the love of Pete- Finally!) ordered the Admiral hers (eBay vendor: “exteme marine,” otd = $248) and it is supposed to be here Saturday. Heaven only knows when I’ll get it installed for her (went down to the dock to check the cover, etc. yesterday and, even though it was near 60^F, the cold wind on the water was biting right through ya,!) It’s a surprise so, it’ll be interesting to see her reaction upon opening it!

The other day the stop light turned green and as I started to move forward a girlie walked right in front of me, all the time tweeting on her tweeter phone, completely oblivious to the fact that she was crossing the street on a redlight. All the traffic stopped and she continued across the street not even knowing where she was.....true story.

Vesselview sounds really good, but I have always found it advantageous to look down on the boat's dashboard to view the appropriate boat data. Seems to me reading the boat off a tweeter might lead to safety issues while on plane in crowded waters.

Or is it just me?

Did you see that Mercury has Mobile Vessel View on sale? 45% off. Sale price $149.99. Never thought I would see that.

Oi Vey - OUUUUCH! I paid full MSRP via eBay 2 weeks ago and, even though I haven’t gifted it yet, I’ll have to think twice about considering whether to try and return it ... doing that just doesn’t sit right with me, “do unto others,” etc.

But, ANYONE WHOSE BEEN THINKING ABOUT SHOULD J-U-M-P on it (THANKS FOR POSTING THAT, MoonDoggie)!!!

Or is it just me?

Perhaps not; anyone else also making the assumption that: a) all the info available via VesselView appears ANYwhere on a SPX dash; OR, b) one can’t pull up info about the engine from anywhere (using the app only when on the boat is in reality limiting its ability).

It’s not for everyone fer sure (but, I made sure I got complete info before I made the decision to get it)!

Happy trails!

Yea, I paid $250 about a month ago. AAAAARG!!

Moondoogie. I think you should start a thread letting other members here know about it. That's a great deal. I wonder if they are about to release a newer version?

Will do. I was thinking the same thing about an updated version, clearing out old stock.

Hey Jim. I purchased a RAM mount and located it on forward windshield. Easy to see and no need to look down. https://www.amazon.com/Suction-Univ...ds=ram+mount+x-grip&psc=1&smid=A2XENS8LQP1A6D
There's the answer. I have used RAM mounts on other boats for GPS and hand held UHF and like them.

My only reservation is the suction cup. I have never had long term reliability with them - they always fall off. I'll look and see if they have the same mount with a permanent bolt or screw-on attachment.
