Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

I could be wrong but was told if i was gonna need a heater i could use a ceramic heater. Was told it has no open flame or spark. I store mine on land and wintetized but of i needed to heat cabin while working on stuff its the best. Thoughts?

Hey Jeff, I ran this by Super Electrician who does everything by the code book. His comment was “ceramics and infrareds are fine everywhere except the ER because they still have exposed elements.” The Extreme is enclosed, Air comes into the chamber, gets heated and exits. What I used to call in my Building Automation Days “intrinsically safe” those were good sales days!

Ok Crew, the million dollar generator choke is kicking my butt, does the bent part of the spring go in the choke linkage slot or does it just rest against it and I twist until I get tension? I’ve been trying to get the spring in the slot but being blind and not 3’ tall has added some extra challenges. I dropped the little hold downs that go under the screws. Found a GM 2bl carb kit that had them in it for $15.00 If I manually push the choke lever over the Gen starts fantastic nothing like it was before having to grind it to death. Letting the choke go once it’s running and it hunts, when it’s warm if I push the choke in just a little it stops hunting, it also doesn’t hunt when under load. Carb rebuild time I’m thinking.

Thoughts and thanks!
Jon

Yes this boat has been repowered (2017) with the new 4.5L 250hp Merc's. I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with these engines. So far I have had no negative feedback on them.

Hmmm 4.5 ltr. I just learned something new today too!

Looks like a great motor. Nice HP output for a V6. Haven't seen any bad reviews on it. They've done some nice things to quiet the motor down and make maintenance easy.

Definitely should go in the slot. As far as the setting is concerned usually there a notch on the choke cap that gets aligned with that tab you see sticking out in your last pic.

Thanks Mitch, that’s a great starting point!

Home on a better monitor now and I don't see the the notch/cutout on that choke cap. Is that the exact correct replacement cap and do you have any other pics of the cap itself?
I’ll have to go back down to the boat and look at it closer. I’m waiting for my cheap assembly to come that has the hold down tabs in it. Probably won’t go down until tomorrow.

Hey Crew, sometimes it seems we only talk about our “issues” with our girls, which is fantastic because we all know sting me once shame on you, sting me twice shame on me, the knowledge around here we should start our own repair/restoration company. I’ll cut to the chase, the Queen and I just finished a fantastic lake day on our girl, no wind left the dock at about 1130, generator running making ice! Cruised around for about 3 hours then went here.

Port City Club, it’s all of 5 minutes from our marina, you can almost see our slip from the table we had. Ate a great meal and had great banter with our fantastic server (Courtney) then went back out for just a few minutes and the Queen took these.

Life doesn’t suck and I really do love my boat.

You're alright Girly girl! For a Navy guy.

Hey so while Hawk and I eat up bandwidth and load your email with crap, I was going to replace the starboard (that’s the right side looking from the helm (steering wheel) Hawk. Nav light bulb and the thing just disintegrated in my hand Found the Perko ones, anyone use them. They seem ok and the price is right. Just wish they came with LED’s
Thoughts?
