Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Just 1 screw in the front inbelieve. It sits on a little post
Once I got the new one it was simple - there’s a base that screws in, and then the float just snaps into the base. So I left the old base there, and just snapped the new float into it. All good! AC and shower pump fixed and ready for the weekend at Fire Island now.

As always - thanks for the input Jeff! Have a great weekend! Bob

No problem. I have been in Marathon in the Florida Keys since August 1st. Im enjoying kicking around on my 1988 Sea Ray Sorrento S240 and the jet skiis. Gonna suck to go back to dirty jersey

Wow that sounds awesome! Enjoy. At least you’re not coming back to snow!

So Jeff, I’m jealous I’m at the beach with the entire family and we have this pouring friggin rain. Hmmm

Just returned last Friday from our trip to the North Channel. Loaded with 4 people, food, clothes, water, fuel the little 4.3's were working their little hearts out. Put over 40 hours on her, and she never missed a beat though! Unfortunately finding that the 290 is a little tight for the four of us on 2 week long trip so now 12 foot itus is kicking in. My wife also wants a boat that is easier to get to the bow.

Couple of pics to share!

Ted, we bought our 290 last year and we love it, but we like sleeping out, and it’s too tight for our family of 4, with 2 grown kids and girlfriends. After this weekend, we’re seriously considering a bigger boat!

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed, but I searched and couldn't find it. When I turn my fresh water pump on, it runs continuously, and doesn't pump any water. I don't see an inline filter, so I think the previous owner may have removed it. It's hard to tell with the pump noise, but it sounds like it might sucking air, maybe on the inlet side of the pump.

This may be a coincedence, but this started happening the day we left a marina, where we were on dock water for 2 days, with the water pump on at the same time. I didn't know, but apparently you shouldn't have the water pump on when using city water. I don't know if that would cause problems, or if it's just not necessary to turn the pump on.

I'd appreciate any ideas or advice you guys might have.

its not necessary but shouldn't hurt anything. The pump switch is pressure based so the hose water keeps pressure up making it so the pump never turns on I've actually had both running at once if we are taking two showers because the pressure drop from one is enough to kick the pump on an supplement

anyways, the first think I would do is find that filter and inspect the inlet side of the pump from the tank We had a hairline crack in the inlet housing and it was sucking air

its the clear plastic thing on the left of this picture:

Ok thanks for the clarification on the pump being on or not, with dockside water. I guess it’s just coincidence that this happened that day.

That’s the clear filter that I think the previous owner did away with. I thought I heard it sucking air on the inlet side. One fitting that was in the pump was spinning freely (by design I guess), and there was another fitting that the supply hose threaded into. Do you think one of those fittings might be cracked?

yes, I bet that's it. Either at the pump end or the tank outlet. The tank outlet is less likely because it would probably leak water if it was cracked. I was shocked ours didn't leak but I guess there's not enough pressure downstream at the pump to leak out of a tiny hairline.

Ok thanks. I’ll disconnect the supply side hose tomorrow, and check out those fittings. Thanks for the advice!

I had the same issue once. I unscrewed that clear part and it was completely skanked up. Cleaned it and was all good

Also fill tank and check for any leaks when pump is on. I had a small hairline crack at the hose bib in the rear locker. Next to the shorepower line. Only found it because i saw some water coming from the weep holes at the locker

Tank is full, I ran the pump briefly and checked faucets, and engine compartment. I’ll run it again and look around the locker also. Thanks Jeff.

This is the supply side. It looks like one fitting might be part of the hose. The other fitting spins freely inside the pump housing. Looks like maybe it clips in somehow?
