Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

New dash lights ...check! lol

do you have a part number for the bulbs that you used? were they all the same bulb or did the larger gauges use larger bulbs?

i know i've seen somewhere that offered this product but i cannot for the life of me find it now.
i'm looking for the tape light that sticks behind our switch panels to light up the switch names. not the actual rocker switch leds but the label above them has a stick on light tape to light up the name of the strip.

i want to replace mine as most are destroyed and i want to go with red so they are actually visible instead of the dull blur of the 1990's green.

also, does anyone know where to get replacement white rockers with the actual little light bulb symbol on them?
i can only seem to locate the blank white ones and most of my interior light switches are falling off but the switch still works perfectly.

Flounder-Pounder sells the light strips. You can get any color you want as long as it's Blue.

eBay led gauge light they are automotive replacement chip led plug in play . Take out old one And replace

Good morning all.

First I just want to say what a joy the 98 290 DA has been so far...... Last month was my 1 year anniversary of ownership.

So onto the question. I bought a new Lofrans Progress One... Finger and Pivot .... to have as spares while the getting was good just in case they happen to break.

So yesterday I was at the boat and decided to lube the anchor swivel and take a look at he existing finger and pivot. The finger I purchased was correct but it looks like I have a piece of all thread in place of the "correct" pivot and I could not see any set screw as the owners manual indicates. Does anyone have a picture of said set screw?

Thanks

sorry, don't have a windlass...

ok couple of quick questions to bounce off of you guys.

went out last night, boat ran great to the restaurant. every thing went great, bottom a little dirty so planning took a few extra rpms but smoothed out after a ride.
on the way back, i was running pretty hard but nothing crazy, about 4,000rpms for about 10 minutes so at or just over 30 knots, can't remember because i wasn't looking at the gps really. so temps are good, pressures good, motors running perfectly and it's dead flat. there were police, harbomasters and fire boats going everywhere so I wanted to get back and out of the harbor, because there was a 32' cruiser on fire inside Boston harbor so every town that touches water had to send a fire boat, police boat, harbomaster, coast gaurd and 4,000,000 private boats to the area even if they were 45 minutes late to the scene. (fire was out in about 10 minutes, literaly, i was tied up 45 minutes after the call and a fire boat went by me in the river, several miles away, responding to the call lights and sirens)...anyway. More on that later.
So i was going through the long island bridge pillings and i saw flashing lights everywhere and wanted to get through the uprights before the ferry and fire boats tried coming thorugh, if i slowed down i would have been in there way so i hammered the throttles, we were already doing 4,000 rpms so it jumped to 4800 pretty quickly and about 10-15 seconds later, I looked down and the starboard engine temp went from 160-200 in a flash. BEEEEEEP. I dropped that engine down pretty fast to about 1500 rpms and slowly brought back the port engine and the temps went right back to 160 and the alarm went away after 10 or so seconds. broght the engine back up to speed and everything was perfect. ran full throttle again and no issues.

Thoughts?

Second, I was running pretty fast after the "high temp" alarm to check all the gauges and everything was perfect. smooth as glass, 160 on the gauge, 52ish PSI on the pressure. ran up to full rpm again and it was perfect. pulled back to about 4,000 again for a couple minutes as we were trying to stay out fo the way of all the commotion of the fire. I looked behind us and there was a Boston harbormaster boat right behind us with lights on, found it odd because we were around Adam's shores/Hough's Neck area(if you're familiar) and heading south when the fire was straight east of us...the patrol boat was probably 160-180' back and not very close to the fire area or direction so i figured he wanted to talk or board us so I slowed down, backed all the way to idle and he turned out of our wake about 20' from our stern quarter and turned abruptly to the fire area, must have just been trying to ride the smooth water in our wash because it was a pretty small boat with very low freeboard. so as we idled for a few seconds to look back at the commotion and all of a sudden the port engine stalled. no issues whatsoever with this engine, it's 2 years old and besides a loose alternator wire, and an oil leak in the first week that was solved on warranty, we have had no issues with the motor. it just straight up stalled. started right back up and ran perfectly again. i was concerned with all the idle shifting back at the dock that we may have a problem again but it was really perfect the while time except for a strange stall issue after running pretty hard. I say pretty hard because i was pushing more than usual but nothing more than I have before, and it was almost glass flat seas last night so it couldn't have been much stress on the motors.
thoughts on this too?

BTW, sorry for rambling, i'm trying to type this and deal with 2 kids screaming about trying on rain jackets in the dinning room.

Here are pictures of the 32' cruiser on fire. first boat on scene that reported the fire to the coast guard stated right away that everyone was safely off the boat and on his so we decided not to go anywhere near it. we were going to go that direction until we heard the call so we avoided amateur rescue opps.

wife took the pictures on my phone, it's her stupid macbook and i don't know how to rotate them or why the last one came out right... she didn't zoom in well and it doesn't show scale very well. the smoke filled the sky very quickly. glad everyone got off safely.

changed my guage bulbs to LED and green here is half of them in comparison to what incandescent bulbs on the left looked like.
$8.99 for 20 194 bulbs from amazon.
They DO NOT glare like the picture shows and they are dimmable.

Need to replace my horn.

Is there a make/model that folks have went with that is a direct replacement?

Thanks
west marine has a drop in replacement for the hidden horns like ours. just take yours in and double check which one it is. pretty sure it's like $30

Anyone know what LED lights I need to replace my nav and anchor lights with?

Thanks

I did a 21" from BJ's, it's cheap and not the best but it fit. I put it on a small articulating wall mount screwed into the bulkhead

I was thinking of some type of mount in this location and it would allow me to get a slightly larger TV.

Did you through bolt the mount to the wall to make sure it doesn't pull off?

I did, very solid. We've had some serious conditions and no issues.

Well I bought the little 19" TV from Best Buy...... fits nicely on the shelf but I just need to figure out a way to secure it since it does not have a weighted base like some other TV's.... it just has little legs. Picture, sound and tuner strength so much better than the 10 year old SANYO the previous owner had.
