Official 1998 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 Thread

Well, time for new batteries. Memorial Day fun on the hook, got ready to head back to the dock and had to use emergency start. Thinking back tho the batteries did seem a bit sluggish when I cranked the engines for warm-up. Anyhow, I have August - 2008 Napa Stowaways and looking to replace with some type/brand of AGMs. Any of you 98' 290'ers using AGMs? There are several types/brands to choose from. Which ones do you have that fit the trays in the 98' 290? I'd also welcome advice on wet-cells.

Anyone have the pleasure of taking the carburetor off of their Kohler 5E generator?...looking for tips and tricks

Thanks, Mike

I can't officially call myself a 290 owner for a few more hours, but who's counting.

I take ownership this afternoon.

Im sure I will have plenty of questions to follow.

I can't wait!

Magstang- Congratulations! Looking forward to more details, and pics, of your new boat.

It's a done deal. She's all mine!

1997 290DA, twin 4.3s, generator, A/C, and every obsolete raymarine piece of electronics available when this boat was new. Chartplotter, radar, and autopilot.

Hello, currently boatless but looking at a 1999 290. The boat is powered with the 4.3L carb engines. Looking for some rel world experience with the engine package. I had until 1 month ago a 1993 3055 Bayliner that was powered by twin 5.0 carb's. Both boats are similar is size and weight. We run fairly well loaded. I found that switching to 4 blade props and an all chain rode helped the 3055. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I pick my 1998 Sundancer 2900 next Friday. Any tips or suggestions? I have to take it from Jersey City down to the Ocean City area and am a little worried about navigating through Hell's Gate in New York. Any tips would be appreciated.

Welcome!

What engines and drives do you have?

Congrats. The 290da is a great boat.

Has anyone tried to replace/update their throttle shift controls with Alphas?
As look around the cockpit, it is one item that shows the most wear and, while I found new cover on Ebay for $50, I'd rather update the internals as well.

Anybody change out that ugly leaky sprayer over the ice bucket in the cockpit yet? I've repaired mine a couple of times but it starts leaking again and I have to let it hang down in the ice bucket when water is turned on. If so, what did you get that fits there?

I am a newbee w a 1998 300 Sundancer...I could not find a thread like this one for the 300 am I missing something or could someone direct me to the right thread for information sharing on my 300, thanks in advance

I replaced mine with a marine cold water only wet bar faucet all stainless from wholesale marine or flounder pounder. it looks great but good luck finding something to use as a trim ring. i ended up using a plastic(stainless look) pipe ring usually on the floor next to a toilet. i also had to buy a bunch of parts at Lowe's to get it to work correctly with the existing plumbing but it works great and actually shuts off when closed. i'll take pictures next time i'm at the boat. might be tonight. next season will be replacing the ice bucket with an actual sink. should look great when i'm done. the bucket holds water and grows some interesting life forms in it, mosquito larva I think. i have to constantly put a drop of soap or splash of vinegar when leaving the boat to prevent it.

I don't remember if it was Lowes or Home Depot but it was about $40 and it came with the trim ring.

Excuse the dirtyness.

we're new boaters, have had a hard year so far. Starboard engine had piston get punched through valve, and I believe fridge died. What a welcome!

Does the A/C unit also provide heat if it would ever be needed?
