Hatch support Arm Replacement/Fixes

I have a problem with my port side hatch not staying up. The thumbscrews do not move very much and cannot hold the hatch up well at all.

It appears to me that the support arm is riveted in place and not an easy way to replace just the arm assembly (not even sure you can buy just that part yet).

does anyone have an idea of how to replace or fix existing?

Thanks for any help.

When my 310 was surveyed a few weeks ago that was one of the issues i had also,.....My surveyer said it was just a matter of adjustment as did another mechanic i got friendly with , and if it needed to be replaced? they would replace both arms
my hatch is over the main berth... ...

We'll see....:smt001

Please let us know about anything you find out of how to "adjust" to correct the problem. I am off to check on the boat today so I will look it over, but I do not remember any adjustment points.

Hi Ron, did you go to the dry joint exhaust after the injestion problem...I did and my fingers are crossed. I've repowerd 2x.

Looking forward to following this thred. Have a 01 310 da love this boat too. Cocoa beach is home for me as of this friday, moveing from charleston sc.

A little more research. this is called a Hatch riser Arm. You can buy them from TM or even WM, but are quite expensive. About $80 each!

I am going to squirt mine up with some Tri Flow lubricant and also see if I can remove the U shaped part just opposite of the thumbscrew to have a look at the locking components.

Thanks, and maybe we can get these fixed.

Question about the canvas with the eisenglass above the surrounding windshield...

id like to in the spring time open that area above the windshield across, but keep the top canvas over the helm attached, will that eisenglass area canvas just unzip?? un snap?? or is all attached to the over the helm canvas permanently....

On my boat, which is 4 years older than yours, it unzips from the top canvas roof and has a rubber extrusion that fits into a groove on the outside top of the windshield. My canvas guy told me that Searay went to snaps as getting the rubber into the groove was more difficult.

I keep mine off during the summer to get fresh air and enjoy the weather.

Some tips that I can share from I have learned.

Store your Eisenglass flat and do not roll. It is best to hang them up. I use small spring clips nailed to the wall and they hang vertically.

When the front glass is off so is the aft curtain for summer use. This exposes your cockpit to the elements. I suggest a cockpit cover. Mine snaps to the bottom of the windshield and attaches all the way to back to the same location as the aft curtain uses. Works great. I had mine made locally for around $800.

Do not wait too late in the year to put the windows back up as they can be a pain when the temps drop. I have also found that releasing the support arms on the roof frame, then attaching windows, then raising and latching support arms is far easier and less likely to rip your zippers off.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Mike....Very good.info .I was also thinking of an attached canvas to the one thats about 3 feet wide already there on the top to extend aft more like a sunshade extended maybe 5 feet  i think its called a bimini top ?

When you are storing the eisenglass (clear windows) on the boat, do not fold. Roll them up with soft cloth, such as old bed sheets between them. They will last much longer this way, will not stick together or yellow.

Keokie is correct if storing on your boat. If you store at home, just hang them vertically with no folding or rolling.Even then, it is best to put something soft between them if nesting several windows together.

If you cannot hang them, then perhaps laying flat under a bed at home could work. I do that with my aft curtain during the summer to keep its window flat.

Look at JediJD's thread below. My canvas guy explained the same thing to me and it is just gorgeous. I think you are looking at at least 2-3K without adding side windows. I love the fact that it is all cantilevered and no support poles aft.

My tops are made of a product called SeaMark. This is Sunbrella fused to vinyl for better waterproofing. The side curtains are made of standard Sunbrella.

Where still trying to find out where the hanging clothes rod is in our 2002 310 cabin........

I am sure your cabin layout is different than mine. Do not look for rod, but rather a metal bracket up high in compartment that has no shelves. Look or feel at the top.mine are hidden from view, but can hang in main and aft closet areas. The hangars are designed to stack your clothes front to back and not side to side as on a rod.
