Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

Follow up to my question: After checking today,my on board charger does indeed have 3 banks. Banks one and two are wired, bank 3 has a jumper wire to bank two. All appears to be factory installed. My single battery is not charging with both battery switches on using the onboard charger (Flybank 20-3). Do all your batteries charge with your on board charger?

Yes they should all charge. If I remember correctly the original charger has an internal fuse for each bank. When mine went out, I didn't even bother. I replaced it with a Promariner Pronautic 1240P.

Thanks for your reply, I'll check it out.

Working on getting my upholstery done in phases .Last year was easy just the seat pads. This last fall removed the back rests . Now the rear seat back pad was easy to remove the fasteners were in the trunk and side storage compartment. Now the back pad that was behind the helm this was a different story. Was able to get to all the fastener along the top through storage under seat next to the helm and down through the cup holder. The fastener by the arch I didn't even try to get to and I just cut the screw to remove. I couldn't find any info how to get to these two fastener. There is a access panel on the side but it is under the seat and I for one couldn't fit underneath far enough to even get the cover off alone reach 3' up to the fasteners or go through the side storage door which is also about 3' away from where you need to be. So here is how I got to this fastener. I used a 4" hole saw under the seat that i will cover with a deck plate cover.

Hello Captains,
I have to replace the Electric Fuel Pump (p/n 861156A1) and Fuel Cooler (p/n 861267A1 or 8M0125847), 350 MAG MPI MIE (2001), the Cooler is in bad condition and the Pump stopped working. Is there any kit in the market containing all the components (pump, cooler, fittings, o-rings, etc)? Is it OEM?
Thanks in advance

Has anyone replace their microwave recently? Our original one in a 2000 310DA just bit the dust. I’m having a hard time finding one to fit.

There are a couple of inches to play with both ways in ours. Pull yours and go from there. You may have to do a little cutting on the cabinet face but thats pretty simple. Rolled laminate trim is east to use also.

Thanks. I see that I have 1.5” to go up. Just have to figure out a good fence to run the router along.

Need help!!!! Have a 91 310 and the starboard side is stuck in forward. Shifter is moving the lever forward neutral and reverse but it will not come out of forward have to shut motor off to get it to stop. Do I have to pull the drive and replace???

This topic is for 1998-2002 310's.
You will have better luck moving your post to engines and transmissions .

So, looking at buying a 2001 310 Sundancer that appears to be pretty well maintained. There are some small visual items which I think are not uncommon for a 16 year old boat.

One thing that is holding me back is the performance. This boat has 350 MAG Horizons with V-Drive. It only ran at 28mph (don't know what the RPM was - didn't think to check) but the handles were pretty far down. What should the WOT RPM be and the corresponding speed under normal load/water conditions?

Also, the lack of a cockpit fridge bugs me. Has anyone had one installed in this particular year/model?

Thanks in advance.

I have a similar issue with a boat we were planning to make an offer on. We are looking at a 1999 310 Sundancer with twin 350 Mag V-Drives. The engines start right up and sound great, but the owner tells us that he cruises at 15 kn and that the top speed is at 22 kn! Other than that, the boat seems like just what we are looking for.

Can that just be a propping issue? I'll get the boat surveyed if it seems like there is the possibility of an easy fix (like props), but I don't want to waste money on a survey if I know the engines are bad. Any opinions would be most welcome.

When I owned the 2002 310 with those motors/drives, my top speed at WOT was 35.8 MPH at 4850 RPM. I used to regularly cruise at 25-27 MPH at about 3600 RPM. I got about .6 MPG at cruise. Definitely could be a prop issue, low compression or fuel injection issue. Of course it could be any number of things as well. Hope this is helpful.

This part number will get you where you want to go. 861156A02. It may cross ref to a newer part number, but is what you are looking for. This includes the pump and cooler and gaskets, etc. I replaced both of mine in my 310.

Thanks Amajamar. Our mechanic will be checking compression to rule that out. Not sure how you check for a fuel injection issue.

Thank you Amajamar, wish I had this info before my order, I ordered individually each part from the web and I expect them to be delivered soon! Anyway, thanks a lot!

When I survey a boat, I also have the engines reviewed by a mechanic as well. If you are having a mechanic check compression anyway, that person should also be available for the sea trial, if possible. They then can scan the engines while they are running under load, and look for anything that could be a red flag, including fuel injection problems. It may be difficult to make an informed decision about purchasing the boat without a comprehensive engine evaluation. Unfortunately, boat shopping can be expensive with regard to survey, but if you have a good feeling about the boat because of general condition, features, etc., it may be worth the investment. I have walked away from a few boat deals after the survey because of engine related issues, which only show up at sea trial. Surveys are really inexpensive compared to major engine repair or replacement. Also, if a generator is an imortant feature to you, have that inspected too. Especially on this boat in this age group. That Westerbeke can be a real money pit, and low hours are actually an indication to be cautious with it as well. Hope this is helpful.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I know these are painfully expensive to replace...

Thanks Amajamar, that's very helpful. I would definitely have it surveyed before buying, but if I find any significant issues first, I can rule it out and save the survey money for the next candidate. I'm particularly concerned about these engines, because although they are FWC, they have 1400 hours on them.

Understood. It's pretty impressive that they made 1400 hours, probably indicates some level of being well cared for, but 1400 hours nonetheless...

I know. 1400 hours seems to be the most I've seen on any boat we looked at, regardless of it being FWC. That's a major concern with this one.

Maybe have the owner take you out and you can confirm the numbers and see if they are within spec. IF the engines aren't hitting spec, you can go from there.
