Looks Great Bigblock! Did you do them yourself or have a shop do them? I wanted to do mine this past winter, but didn't have time to do them. Did you re-build the plywood base, or do any upgrades in the storage section?

Looks great!! Any hints how to remove the seatback upright would appreciated. I removed the seats last fall and had them redone, now ready to reinstall if we ever get spring!! Looked like the back to back seatback would be a challenge so I chickened out and just did the seats.
Thanks

I did have to replace the plywood in the rear facing seat. Some of it was a little plucky. For mod's I cut at hole were the cooler was and took the cooler out, that was a waist of space. Also in I installed some sort of steel brace on every corner with stainless hardware before I installed the vinyl. Yes the brace were just steel. Hopefully that will hold the seat together.

I have about $150-200 in materials for what you see done. I did reuse the old color stripping. But I have about a thousand in all. I bought the Sewing machine for $375 plus a few in extras (from what I hear it's a $800 machine the way it sits right now) Singer 211U567A machine. I Bought $580 from Miami Corporation in materials. There is enough for allot of project's. 12 yards the correct white vinyl (ISLANDER VINYL BRILLIANT WHITE ISL9177) Used just over half that. 6 yards of Top Gun for my camper top. 3 yard of vinyl for the dash I hate the color of. String, (expensive) zippers, welt cord and some other stuff.

There were 4 screw that come up through the mid cabin and 2 more through the top that held the seat in place. Of coarse you have to get the rear facing seat off first with the back rest. The Back rest is the problem. I had that off when i removed the arch. Two get to the nut on the starboard side you could remove the speaker to get at that unlike what I did the first time, witch was remove all the panels starting from that back. The other nut on the seat you just reach up through under the front seat. There are for screw's just behind the door for the rear seat were you access the cooler.

Here's a pic, getting reading to staple it on.

Here also is a picture of the boat without the seat in place. You can see were the screw hole is that hold the seat back on.

Here's todays project. A few years ago I redid the dash vinyl. I can't stand the color contrast with the gel coat. Somedays It looks good and some day's I can't stand it. So I found something different. I'm still not sure if I like it, but it's better than it was.

Before pic.

Hopefully I like it. I figured now was the time to do if because the seat was out witch made this job allot easier. Now it looks more like the original color.

Now I just need to figure out a way to get the arch on and off without taking the side panel off were the main seat is. Have been looking at ways to modify the side panel to access the nut's for the arch. Right not I'm at a lose.

Look like I'm and going to try Mercury Vengeance Pops 21 pitch. I got one off eBay for $250 that looks like new, so I have another one coming for $330 new. Give these a shot to see what the fuel mileage is. Can't complain about the way the Mirage 19 pitch preforms compared to the cheap 21 pitch alum. props were, but just have been wonder about turning this 14.875 diameter props on these small motors and how it effect engine efficiency. My last boat the `19 Vengeance was better on fuel than the 19 Mirage was even that my RPMs were 200 lower all the way though.

I would be interested to hear how you got on with the prop changes.....

Fuel mileage is not better. I need to take them off and go back to to the other

I believe the Mirage Props are a bit better all around than the vengeance props. 19 pitch Mirage's are back on.

Well I must say I am very excited. I was looking at a 1987 300DA but when I went to inspect it decided it was not the boat for me. Too much work to do and the survey the vendor showed from two years ago came back with a lot of high moisture readings. So I thought I would do a little more research and see what else was on the market here in Toronto. I went and saw about 7 different boats in the span of a week and a couple of days ago I think I came across a gem. I am having a survey done tomorrow on a 1990 270DA. The boat looks immaculate and has new upholstery on all the cabin cushions. The engine has just over 500 hours and is the 7.4l. The only real visual concern is some staining on the wall in the aft cabin on the starboard side. I read about the water intrusion issues with a radar tower but this boat doesn't have a tower. It has a 3 year old camper canvass that looks mint.

As I said I am having my guy survey the boat and I will be taking the family out for a sea trial on Monday.

Any tips that you can impart would be very much appreciated.

Mike

We love our 270! Just got back from spending 4 days out and had a great time. I don't have a radar arch either, don't miss it that much as I don't boat in bad weather as a rule (good excuse for spending another day out.). As far as the staining in the aft cabin goes, I had the same thing and I think most of it is coming from where the windshield tapers down just behind the helm. There is a hole drilled there for wiring to pass through, and I think water was getting in there and working it's way down into the aft cabin. I sealed it with silicone, and haven't had any dampness there since. Good Luck with your sea trials.

Hey guys, I sold my boat last January because we just were not using it any more. It was kind of difficult to give up boating after 45 years, but, it was time to move on. I appreciate all of the help that I got on this website and wish you all well.
If you get a chance, take a look at our new travel mode and see us at: Our Travel Log
