Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

Nice faucets! On another note, I was wondering if it's a bad idea to store an outboard down in the engine room. It is a 4hp 2-cycle merc for the dinghy I just got. The gas tank is built into the motor and does not leak at all but I don't want to take any unnecessary chances with fumes down there. If not there, any ideas where to keep it when it's not on the dinghy?

Thanks for any advice.

I have a 4 hp Suzuki 4 stroke and I lay it right below to the little transom door with the motor head facing the stern and the prop saft up under the rear facing seat and cover the motor with a small tarp. Stays right there and isn't really in the way while cruising. Saw someone had a motor mount fastened to the stern over the swim platform, but it looked like it would interfere with the swim ladder. I wasn't close enough to see how the mount was fastened, but could be a nice idea.

Hey Bigblock, she looks like the Wendy Lee now. Not a bad look either I must say. The only thing I would like is radar for those mukky days on the bay, but I'm very happy with the sleek lookminus the arch.

Thanks! I'll try that.

Looking for ideas

Newbie to boating still but learning a ton. Is there anything I can change or add to my 7.4 mercruiser bravo 1 to add power? I'm looking for something I could do myself which wouldn't require a whole lot of work. I realize simple and easy sounds crazy when it comes to working on boats but I'm learning..

Thanks for any suggestions!

More power=more fuel burn. What is the desired end result of adding the power?

Are you looking to plane faster, or are you looking for higher top end speed?

Finally put boat in Lake George Ny for our 1 week vacation.Getting comments on how nice it looks and size of it for a 270!It feels good to be back on it with family!

This weekend project. Why can't the used stainless staples and treated plywood?

The dreaded re-upholster projects! LOL I used stainless steel staples when I did my interior 2 seasons ago The plan is to do my helm seat this off season. Treated plywood would work, as a matter of fact I plan to use it for my rebuild. Just buy it early and let it dry out.

This has been crumbly for a few years now. Petty sure it was bad when I got the boat. My boats don't get wet!!! There not made to get wet like people think.

I've repaired the corner backrest on mine, and the plywood was completely rotted. Used pressure treated for that piece, and all has been fine since. I noticed the problem when the backrest was sagging down.

Real Nice Offshore. Did you do the work yourself? You can see the new interior of mine on this thread at post #600, I did all the upholstery and built the new table.

I would love to b able to say I had done the work, but its not true....we bought the boat last weekend...previous owner gutted the interior back to the hull and did the whole lot. Cabin / galley and fwd berth all have changeable mood lighting and everything. Even the music system is all high end including the speakers. We were very lucky to find one in this condition.....

Doing the same to our boat now.We have whole cabin interior and headliner ripped out now workin with upholsterer now.We are putting new foam in all cushions to make comfortable.

When done will send some photos.
