Official (1982-1988) 270DA Thread

Good afternoon. Raining here in Iowa STILL! Just wondering if anyone has a photo of what the outside water hookup looks like in a 1988 270da. I have the hot/cold set up in the rear of the boat, but is there a spot to connect the fresh water line while docked???

We do not have one on ours it was an option in 1988.

Ours did not come with one either. I installed my own about a month ago. Super easy. Took about 30 minutes...I put in on the stern Port side.

That's a low priority on my to-do-list of upgrades. I'm thinking the same area - not in the way of the transom door
Skyscraper88 - If installing your own be sure to use a check valve on the outlet side of your existing pump so the city water pressure does not damage it.

Thanks KC. I never thought about that.

Where did you connect it? I am unsure where it goes. Does it connect straight to the punp or to the tank?

It should be tied in just after the pump (before the water heater if you have one).
Don't forget that the "city" water fitting needs a built in check valve or one in that part of the line also so when using your pump it's not just pumping overboard.

Ahoy there Guys and Gals. First of all I have read this thread from "cover to cover" and appreciate all the information. I've got a ton of questions, but for this 4th of July celebration I'll start with a "head" question. My boat has what looks like a "portable head in it, but the thing is connected to with several hoses and/or what could be cable plenum. There is a key just above the head that says there's a macerator. I cannot for the life of me find a holding tank and haven't looked hard enough for a pump out one the gunwhale. Can someone explain how this head works? It looks as if there's a holding tank for fresh water to pump into the bowl with an accordion like filler on the top, and there's a slide unit that deposits the waste into another small reservoir u built into the head. There is also, under the sink what looks like a macerator pump. Just for s&g's I turn the key and nothing happened. That's probably good because I didn't want to dump waste into the basin, but curiosity took over. Can someone explain how this head system works? Next question will be regarding windlass, but not necessary today Thanks in advance!John

Update on previous thread. I do have a pump out hole labeled waste. Do you think it pumps directly from the potty or is there a tank down there hidden somewhere? ThanksJohn

I have the same setup, it pumps from the porta potty.

Hey all, Just wanted to drop a line. Brand new to the site. 2nd summer with a 1984 270 DA. I really appreciate the good support on the forum. Transom Spring 2013 small.JPGWJ Small2.JPG

I just want to thank you all for the information on this 270DA post. We purchase a 1985 in late 2011 and have been working on it since. Really like the older boats and cant wait to get her in the water. just now she is ready except for a little more cleaning. Thanks everyone. We will get some pics up asap

Mine has a regular toilet and a fresh water intake so it doesn't use fresh water from my tank. Mine has a holding tank i believe that is either under the toilet or on the starboard side.

New question. I am having an issue with the starboard side ignition breaker. I flip the switch to the ""on" position, turn the key to start the motor, and the breaker shuts down.:smt013 On the chance that the motor starts, it will run for about 10 minutes before the breaker shuts off once again. I have replaced the breaker and the ignition switch plus i have also replaced all the batteries. I am at a loss.:smt021 Is there anyone out there that has had the same issue? Could it be the coil? Or is there something I am missing. The engine turns over fine, and i also failed to mention i replaced the slave selenoid also. Please help.

Check all the connections at the key switch and coil for loose or broken wires, including crimp connectors.
Sometimes with crimp connectors a wire can break from movement over time and still be secured in it.
You could also try swapping coils between engines too.

Update! Admiral was in the cabin and smelled burning wires. Upon further review, the trim gauge for that motor has some wires come loose and were arcing across each other. After repairing them and tightening the connections the engine ran and the breaker stayed "on". Thanks for the help.

Finally wrapping up the big cabin structure rebuild/floor project. Had her in the water by the 4th of July but the interior needed to be put back together.
Nicer to do at the marina and at least we could still get out. Pleased with the outcome and did not realize how much of an improvement the floor and lighter carpet made until looking back at old pictures. Post #94 shows pics of the damaged areas and it torn apart. Only thing left are a few additional teak trim pieces I'd like to add in places. I did upgrade last weekend to a Simrad 4G radar which is great compared to the old Raymarine I had. Now it's time to finish enjoying what's left of our boating season.

Need pictures and/or a better description of exactly where these petcocks you are talking about are located.
