Official (1982-1988) 270DA Thread

Here are copies of two drawings sent to me from Taylor Made when I inquired about the seals.
First one shows the seal used in the track and the other shows their screw cover.
They will usually send you a sample to verify it is correct before ordering.
A good idea because it is rather expensive stuff and things changed over the years.
I hope this helps.

I just called Taylor Made again and I guess it is all in who you get. The rep knew right what I needed, emailed me pictures of the parts, and is sending out samples to confirm.

Part number 8338990 - I had to email the rep from Taylor Made because not sure where this piece goes.

That is the screw cover. The bottom edge in your attached picture would be the black stripe you see around the perimeter of the window frame.

Thank you on letting me know this is the screw cover. Here is the other drawing they sent to me to hold exterior glass in place.8338940Shrunk.jpg

Yes that is what the rubber strip looks like for holding the glass in place.
That pulls out from the inside of the window frame.
I was able to re-use that strip as it is not exposed to the outside weather.
Some of this may be a repeat but when re-installing the glass (plastic) I did the following:

  • sealed the inside joints/gaps of the extruded aluminum with Dow Corning Window Adhesive Sealant
  • set the glass in place from the inside with the frame laying flat on a bench.
  • used the Dow Corning Window Adhesive Sealant to put a nice heavy bead around the edge of the glass and the frame from the inside of the window.
  • pressed the rubber glass retaining strip into the frame.
  • flipped over the assembly and put a nice bead of the Dow adhesive sealant around the outside perimeter of the glass and frame. (this one you see)
  • Used the 3M 4200UV to bed to the deck and fastened (tough to clean so take your time and get handling help)
  • Followed final installation with a nice bead around the deck window frame joint (it's tight along the bottom and railing stanchion areas - used a small tube)

All the dis-assembly and re-assembly was done on a bench outside of the boat.

It does not look like they sent you any pictures of the actual seal the window slides in. From what I understand they are sold out of that now.
I'm wishing I would have replaced the track seals when I had them apart as I could get them then.
The track seal was not and still is not a leak issue though, but they are starting to dry out and break apart.
I am investigating another source right now for the track seal and screw cover and will share the response I get.
Hopefully soon

Kc......this all seems a bit overwhelming trying to figure it out. Althought I am sure I can get it all apart - lmao! I have noticed my plexiglass has an aluminum frame fitted tightly around it which fits into the bigger frame. It seems to be sealed glued to plexiglass and looks a bit tarnish is that the old adhesive? Since my boat/frame is older I think the parts, flocking aside are just different. The inside piece that holds non moving glass is very different. Comments appreciated?
Thx Mike

Mike,

Post some close-up window pictures similar to these and maybe we can help:

KC .......actually there are 5-7 window frame pics in my photo bucket. I will however take some better ones and see if I can find a way to annotate with questions.....i need a program for that my mac tells me jez!

I found your window photos. Looks like the track seal and screw cover are very similar.
The frame looks quite different from the inside. I can't tell if they are welded at the end joints or not but:
I wonder if the outer frame halves (top and bottom) would separate if the window was removed?
Maybe they are screwed into what appears to be another frame around the glass from the top and bottom.
Or maybe just fastened together with a clip or something that can't be seen buried in the deck.
I guess if the leak is bad, pulling them might find something hidden about their assembly and if your lucky a fix.

Nice collection of photos and work by the way.

Keep us posted.

Yes, its kind of a puzzle. I have spoken with Taylor and they are confused as well. The leak needs to be fixed for sure. My concern is if I take it apart can I find the parts to correctly re-assemble.

well small update, just about ready for launch
finished up rewiring and fusing all my DC systems, so much cleaner and now I can sleep at night knowing it's right, it could be prettier but compared to the old it's way better;)

finished up my LED cockpit lighting

and we think we finished up recoloring the headliner...we'll find out if it needs touchup once we get outside into real sunlight

only thing I had problems with was buffing out the deck. I seemed to have lost my buffing mojo...I tried 2 different products with wool pads and a high speed rotory and for some reason I keep getting this ghosting/smeary effect no matter what I try and do. any ideas what I'm doing wrong? you'd think after buffing out 6 boats I'd be an old salt by now, but this one has me stumped. is it just so far oxidized that I need a stronger cutting compound maybe?

Looking good.
I like the cockpit lighting - another project maybe? :smt017
I use the starbrite hull cleaner/wax which seems to work without the ghosting issue you mention.
Sometimes I find it works to go back over everything wheeling small areas and while still wet, polish it dry by hand.
Last year I started using Woody Wax on the deck about once a month when washing her down.
That really helped keep the shine through the season and made cleaning the occasional bird and spider crap much easier.
It's expensive but a little goes a long way.
My floor repair has grown as I dig deeper- just can't wait to start putting it back together. Snow's going quick and I'm getting anxious to be back on the water.

Hey Y'all, Relearning how to navigate this site. Just took possession of a "new to me" 1988 270 Sundancer. I'm sure there will be lots of questions. Picture test firsthttp://

Welcome there is lots of help here! Enjoy the boat we love ours when I am not shouting bad words at it! Get ready for as I tell people why I am sore......some "boat yoga" all good
Mike

Good afternoon. Raining here in Iowa STILL! Just wondering if anyone has a photo of what the outside water hookup looks like in a 1988 270da. I have the hot/cold set up in the rear of the boat, but is there a spot to connect the fresh water line while docked???
