Off Shore in a 290

Love Oregon. Wanted to boat there first time I laid eyes on the Columbia River. Still on my must do list. My daughter and her husband are in Eugene.

Sadler, great post about your trip. Best you don't come out to OR without stopping by here to look me up. I am 10 minutes from the boat ramp on the Columbia, at river mile 300, about 200 miles east of Portland. Give me a few minutes to get the spark plugs back in and I could be ready to go!

Thanks Dave. Looks like you've got a 270DA, same vintage as my 290, but trailerable without the wide load restrictions of the 290. The 270 is a great boat, and I go around and around about selling the 290 for a 270 so I can trailer to Florida and out west. Probably have to wait for retirement and more free time for those long excursions.

My daughter in Eugene is expecting her first child this summer, and her Mom and I have tickets to go see our first grandchild in July. Don't have any idea of our schedule yet, but maybe I can get some time off to head down to Portland and look you up. Boating on the Columbia would be a dream come true.

Stay out of those rental boats they are not tough enough for you. Hey Babe can make the trip you should go for it.

Paul,

Taking Hey Babe south and doing the crossing has been on my mind. I did a spreadsheet last year, where we would take her down the ICW and leave the boat some in Florida and some in the Bahamas, and take a train or plane home, coming back down for long weekends. Financially, it makes no sense. Much cheaper to just fly down there and do normal things. But, maybe I need to rise above practicality. It would be a trip to remember. Maybe we could get a group of CSR boats one day to make the trip down. Now that would be something.

This is boating Sadler. Boating makes no finacial sense. MasterCard believes you can not put a price on happiness.

To put this in perspecitive a fellow with a 320 and twin 6.5s burned 130 gallons one way to Beaufort this weekend. Makes your boat look finacially responsable.

OK Paul, I'm in if you are! When do we leave? :smt038

Ouch, Al Gore would not be happy. I always knew Hey Babe was green. How was the Beaufort trip? Any photos?

Sadler,
That is great work putting your story together. Great shots and always good to see your family as well.
Those kind of conditions are rare I'm sure so soak 'em up when you can. Your Admiral and Daughter as well as yourself may never forget that trip!

Thanks DuckBoater. I see you're in Eugene, Or. Love Oregon. Wanted to boat there first time I laid eyes on the Columbia River. Still on my must do list. My daughter and her husband are in Eugene.

Wow, sorry for the delayed reply; things have just been hectic. Did your daughter go to the UofO? We absolutely love Eugene and would love to have you aboard our boat any time you are out here.
We are still pretty unsettled with trying to sell our house in Bend and starting new jobs in Eugene.... :smt021
Nice to have the boat to escape!

Duckboater,

My daughter went to Reed College in Portland, where she also met her husband. He's in law school now at UofO, and they are living in Eugene in student housing. Her baby's due in July, and Beth and I will be flying out. If by chance July might work for you, it'd be great to hook up. I'll shoot you a pm in the next week or so with the dates. Crazy idea, but it'd sure be fun it if worked.

Thanks.

Todd,

Thanks. It will be a great trip to remember. My pictures pale in comparison to yours. You are the master. And the area you boat in is just awesome. The closest I've been to your area is when I stayed in Vancover for a week on business. We took the ferry to Victoria, and I was slack jawed the entire trip. A month on a trawler there would be bliss.
