have a 270 sundancer and when i flush the vacuum head an odor is very noticable from the back seats. This happen about two years ago then went away. know the odor is back. I do add all the necessary chemicals. any ideas, do i have a seal going out, etc.

thanks,

It could be the lines themselves. I had that happen to me, when I took the 1 or 2 " line from the head to the holding tank off it weighed a ton and was "FULL". Almost restricted. The smell had permeated the hose. When I changed out the filter and it did no good, I knew it had to be something else. Also...do you have an aluminum holding tank? They go bad...Ric

I've recently had a similar issue and here's what I've tried thus far.

1. I've replaced the filter.
2. This weekend I flushed out the holding tank with this chemical from West Marine. I learned that if you switch to a enzyme based solution, like Odorlos, then you should flush out the tank. Most holding tank deodorants contain formaldehyde which will kill the enzyme. I hope this works. This is a good time of year to flush out your tank. Don't try this during peak season or times when the marina is busiest. It took about 30-minutes total to rinse and flush the required amount. The gentleman at our marina was very patient and accepted my generous tip for his time.
3. I'll replace the hoses next if step two above doesn't work. I've been told that the block hoses in my 6-year old boat will start to become permeated by the smell. I was told this is common on boats older than 10-years. Your boat is a 2001, so it might be something to consider.

Let us know what works for you.

Dale

I use the Odorlos packets of granules everytime I pump out. No smells , no issues.

I do also flush my tank at least once and maybe twice with fresh water when pumping out. The new vacumm pump systems on our marina will pump out my tank in less than i minute. Takes longer to fill it up with fresh water. I stay in the bilge to watch the tank level during pump and flush as not to ruin the filter by overfilling.

I suppose someone already tried to get the end caps off the existing filter, instead of cutting it in half? I was going to buy the BIG Orange but this looks easier and cheaper. I too have a filter that is stuck up high on the starboard side and it is smelling something bad when I flush. I even have a light odor when standing in the back. Thanks for the info and pictures.

I don't think there's any easy way to get the end caps off a typical sealand filter. You don't have to cut it in the middle. The only problem I've run into with putting a threaded fitting on mine is it didn't fit back into the clips as well. I had to put a small block under the mounting clips to allow for the extra thickness of the threaded part. If I'd cut it further to one end I might have been able to get away with only having to raise one of the clips instead of both of them.

Organic tank treatments need a supply of fresh air. If your vent line is blocked the critters won't get enough air to do their job as effectively. The trouble is many vent systems aren't setup well enough to make it all work properly. There's really no better solution that pumping out as soon as possible and thoroughly rinsing the system.

Are the filters in the OP's 270 DA the same as the ones in a Four Winns 348 Vista ? Mounted the same way as well ?

If not, he might not have the difficulties installing them on his Sea Ray.

Dunno, Kook, might help if you figured that out for us. Or are you just trolling to be a jerk about it?

If the filter is mounted using the clips Sealand makes then a threaded fitting in the middle might be too large to get it clipped back into them.

Better to share actual experience with people than to just be rude.

Trolling ??? I don't use down troller's when I fish. Better to share your actual boat with people than just be a "nitwit"
And finally....... I have never been rude. Just asked a question, which you did not answer, because you don't know either.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.........

and you want to complain about trolling? You jump on a web site for a boat make that you don't own, call everyone here a nitwit and then complain about the forum users behavior? I am missing the logic in that behavior.

Guys, if you're not going to add anything actually related to question, why bother? Just to be rude?

As for nitwits, well, it does seem to draw the select few of them out...

I am pretty sure you just did what you asked everyone else not to do...added a comment not "actually related to question".

So, just out of curiosity, what makes you think you are the exception to the rule?

Maybe you can enlighten us since this is the second time in the last couple of weeks that you have had something derogatory to say about the forum members here and you are not doing it in a joking manner.

If some CSR members started showing up in the 27 million other forums you are a member of calling you and your pals a bunch of nitwits, how well received would that be? I am pretty sure that the moderators of those forums would accuse the interlopers of trolling.

Watch it... Bill will send you some threatening PM's that he is going to come after you for libel. I have a few I can share he's sent me if you want to check them out.
