Obama Infomercial

NCBoater...I have no problem with McCain if he picked someone else for VP. But I do questions his judgment on a VP when I read about these things dealing with Sarah Palin. Please inform me on any correction to this statements made by different news agencies.

<stinky crap deleted>

This is the same "guilt by association" that the left assails everyone else when it's turn on Osama and his terrorist pals. Where's the outrage over the LA time tapes? His PLO connections? His domestic terrorist connections? If you're going to tar one, you can't excuse the other of the same sins.

Oh wait. You can. You're a leftist. Different standards apply. What an ..... oops. Don't want to tick Wesley off again.

I guess I must be in the minority because I don't really have an issue with her. She seems smart to me and a little more above board/honest than bonehead Obama. Being intelligent and honest gets you more than halfway there in my book. She's been a Governor... that process alone provides a lot of vetting.

I stated above I think she is refreshing. She's not your typical politician. That is one of her problems.... she is to honest.

here is the latest obama ad attacking McCain's choice. Why is it such a big deal that she winks when she is talking with a group. I think the thing they fear the most is that she is so likable.

How come nobody wants to talk about business and jobs. Our candidates sure haven't spent much time on it.

I went to buy a some tires a while back. They told me the price went up $400 ea, now they're $1,900. The tire shop said the gov as put a tariff on the imported tires to equalize their prices with domestic made. Why did we let the industry shift overseas? So now the gov gets $400 more in tax the tire co raises the price $400 to cover it and I get screwed, it's the same tire. So make the things here and employee some people.

And then there is this:

An_elected_congressman_from_Illinois said:
China illegally subsidizes its industries and manipulates its currency to unfairly give an advantage to its manufacturers over American workers, and those Chinese companies must be punished in this case

It appears that we did in fact levy a 210% tarriff on tires from China. http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idUSN0830689920080708

It appears that the tarriff was enacted by the Commerce department. The quote above is from the last paragraph of the article.

The commerce Secretary is a cabinet level post. The current secretary came into office in 2005, approved by a Republican senate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Gutierrez

The Congressmen quoted above is a Republican.

Protectionism is wrong even when Republicans do it.

Raising taxes is wrong even when the Republicans do it.

Irresponsible spending is wrong even when the Republicans do it.

They tend to do it an awful lot less of all three than the Democrats.

I think my wallet got punished to the tune of 1600 bucks.

What kind of gold plated tires did you buy? I put a set of Michelin Cross Terrains for the Navigator last year for $800 and a set of Michelin MXV4s for the Mark VIII for about the same. Had to put tires on my wife's Vanden Plas and they weren't even close $400 each.

Best regards,
Frank

Yeah, I just bought 4 Michelin LTX's for my Truck, for $600 @Costco and 4 Nokian Hakka 5's for my A6, for $675 at a local Tire place. What kind of tires are you buying, 48" -ers?

re: Sarah Palin - I was beginning to think I was the only one that thought she's brought a lot to the McCain campaign. I think she's brutually honest, to the point, where it probably hurts her because she doesn't sugar coat things like some folks would like to have it. She has a lot of energy and has her head in the right place as far as wanting to clean things up.

re: Osama... if news organizations hadn't highlighted his associations with Wright/Ayers/Khalidi - he'd still be meeting with them and going to the same church that he's been going to for 20+ yrs! His stopping visiting with them/not going to their church doesn't change what his views are, but they are now easier to cover up / distance himself from. But if his views are that easily changed, that doesn't say a lot for his sticking to his beliefs which I see as making him wishy washy.

These were not auto tires. They are an offroad equipment tire. They we're $1,900 ea including the $400 increase due to newly added tariff.

You might want to buy a Mooney Acclaim. Sounds like flying would be cheaper!

To answer the original question, yes I watched it to see what was being fed to my relatives who favor Obama.

They had a segment from my town (Louisville, Kentucky truck plant worker)--was that shown everywhere, or did they run region-specific video?

Yeah... one of his guys last week said on CNN or something about how they have said "when" they will do what they are promising... it could be in "year 4".

He also keeps talking about how he wants to go back to the "Clinton days" of how the country was working economically. Am I the only one that remembers that period being a period of "bubble economics" that imploded?

Or that with Bush the first tax increase and Clintons tax increase the economy was sagging. It didn't start to run until after 2004 when Newt Gingrinch and company were voted in, cut spending and taxes. The forced which-way-is-the-wind-blowing Clinton to become a "new democrat."

To what exactly are you refering?

Dow:
1/3/94 = 3820
1/2/95 = 3867
1/1/96 = 5181
1/6/97 = 6704
1/5/98 = 7580
1/4/99 = 9643
1/3/00 = 11522
1/1/01 = 10662
1/7/02 = 9988
1/6/03 = 8785
1/5/04 = 10459
1/3/05 = 10603
1/2/06 = 10959
1/1/07 = 12398
1/7/08 = 12606
10/27/08= 9180

Hmmm. It would appear the DOW dumped twice after Clinton left office. The Nasdaq took off in 98-99 and crested in March of 2000.

Or are you refering to a bubble that formed under Clinton and a Republican Congress that burst under the smooth competence of Bush and a Republican Congress?

Which was followed by a housing bubble that formed after. . .still under the same leadership team (more or less)

Yes. . .I have made this point before. Once again, we are in agreement. Clinton paired with a Republican Congress was a good thing for the country.

It seems that a Republican president paired with a Republican congress was a bad thing.

I am thinking that once again having a Republican house (who afterall do actually write the budget) with a Democrat in the White House (who will veto the budget if it gets stupid) is what to hope for. I will not be voting Democrat downticket.

Reagan with a bunch of democrats worked OK too. But in that case, he was able to make his case with the people leaving congress without a lot of wiggle room on the issues he pressed.

The economy started to fade in 2000. What picked it up was the funny money Freddy and Fannie were floating.

Best regards,
Frank

Maybe a lame concept but to me the US is like the Eagle that represents it.. It need two wings to fly. I'm terrified about a tax and tax and tax and spend libral President paired with a way left leaning super majority in congress.

AGGGHHH

As a Tiara owning liberal I'm distinctly in the minority here. Whatever happened to the real fiscal consevatives. People, someone has to pay for this financial mess we've gotton ourselves in. Why should my grand children be saddled with our half trillion dollar deficits. I've heard Obama called a socialist. What do you call bailing out auto companies, AIG and Wall Street? McCain now wants to use my Tax money to bail out home mortage holders. I'm sorry but 25% of you owe more on your home than it is worth. Folks, you gambled that house prices would increase forever and borrowed to much on your home. How am I responsible for that? The greedy bankers who loaned you the money, took their cut, sold the mtg to some other greedy speculators who divided them up into pieces and then sold them to others. They should eat their losses. How about bailing me out on my substantial 401 k loss in Sept. and even more substantial loss expected in Oct.

I'll likely have to pay higher income taxes under Obama, that's what progressive taxation is all about. I paid cash for a new Harley with my last tax cut from Bush. I can afford higher taxes. I don't necessarily want to pay more but these deficits are killing this country. We need to pay attention to whats best for us rather than whats best for me.

A final note on McCain. Gen. Wesley Clark was widely criticized for stating that getting shot down in an F4 over N. Vietnam was not a qualification for the presidency. Neither are the two purple hearts I received for wounds in Vietnam. But, McCains veteran status should make him empathetic to veteran issues. He's not. He failed to vote for the Webb GI bill and has voted over and over to reduce funding for the VA. His voting record on Veteran issues is atrocious. Yet this man had the audacity to state in one of the debates that "veterans know I'll take care of them." or something like that. He has no problem keeping the troops in Iraq but wants them to fend for themselves when they return. Disheartening, if not disgusting.

Palin was a misguided attempt to appeal to the base and to pander to those dissatisfied Hillary voters. If you didn't listen to Colin Powell on Meet the Press you should. George
Will and other conservative commentators feel the same way.

Sorry for the rant, but you folks need to get your news from someone other than Fox news and talk radio. It's likely that Obama will be our next president. We need to come together and perhaps we can restore this country.
