ny airshow zacks bay long island

Im with joe on that. Even when I went to flynnys (number 4 on your pic) I was at the dock but on the outside and it was bad. If you dont have break walls around you its a tough place to be. I would never even consider a raft up.I might consider sore thumb as a raft location. Its just past the mouth of fi inlet and just north of t. Western tip of fi. Maybe a 10 minute dink ride to a couple bars and restaurant. HAD deep water all the way through last year and WAS pretty well protected.

So, let me recap our options. The marinas are full and some have residence restrictions, there's no place to raft as the whole shoreline is wide open to traffic. Is that it? Are you guys saying that we don't have other options or other place to go?

Anything worth seeing in the Point Lookout? Is it worth heading toward the mainland side?

Ya hit the nail right on the head alex. As for the mainland I can't say. Never really stopped at any ports there.. if I were staying with you guys I would vote for 3 days at zacKs. And I just may very well b hanging out. The house im suppose to be staying at in fi should be done by then but there having some trouble getting permits to bring material in and the bulkhead took some damage and there looking into adding a dock and there having trouble getting those permits as well. My friend said dont worry itll be done but these days who knows

The current can rip through sore thumb, how about our favorite cove? (Ron and I ,Gerard, Jon, ) go here Hemlock cove on the state boat channel. We can go to dinner by one or two boats then return to the mother ships, or run to town by dinghy(not mine) pick up more supplies and just BBQ the hell out of the rest of the weekend, its excellent shelter, holding, no bugs, maybe some dead hookers not sure just another alternative at marker 41 on the state channel south of Lindenhurst / west of the Lindenhurst cut

That's some great educational material you found there my friend. 15 something boats and I didn't see more than 3 anchors. Geese.......:smt021 You wouldn't want to have this arrangement in the dead calm water, never mind a spot with boat traffic and strong current.

There's an idea. Another cover is good to change the scenery. Going to town for dinner on one boat, I like that idea. Depending on amount of people we can take one big boat and have a nice ride to almost anywhere on FI or mainland. If we have a lot of people we may need to take two big boats.

Wow ok so sore thumb is out. Thats a good video just to show what not to do. I think joe has the right idea here. Btw joe what program are you using to get those pics? Ipad pr no?

Navionics for Ipad. My new Garmin bluechart app keeps shutting down I really liked it it had activecaptain synch.

FYI... We stayed lastyear at the Blue Water Yacht Club in Merrick. We could see the show from there as well.

Blue Water is still hurting...
Slow to repair from the aftermath of Sandy.........

Joe,
This is a great idea and yes, one of the hangouts.
Can run down the state channel to eat at Tobay - Singletons or the Mexican place? or go the other direction to Captree.

How about rafting at tobay. This way you have beaches bars and restaurants just a dingy ride away?

This could work even better. It looks like a good and safe spot and if there's a decent restaurant on shore we're covered. It looks like there are few coves we can explore by dinghies as well.

Looks pretty good. How is it anchoring in there with the boat basin?

One of the reviews on AC says: "It also has a small anchorage; but is not recommended on weekends due to traffic."

Where are the bars and restaurants at?

I thought this was part of the no wake zone. Can some of the local guys confirm?

Ive only been to tobay by land for the boat show. The bay was pretty big. They have lifguarded swim areas that are roped off but a lot of water beyond that. Its all no wake zones as soon as you make the turn south off the channel. Thats pretty much all the info I have on the area. I may drive out there over the next couple days to take a look at the waters from the bridge (for my seatrial) so maybe ill head out to tobay and go exploring.

Is this Tobay? I took these photos in 2010 while on a trip via South Shore to SI and MYC.

Great! If we get South wind we'll be nicely aligned with the shoreline and take most of the wake with our stern. I'm sure there will be at least few idiots ignoring the no wake zone rules.

Do you guys with local knowledge have anything to add, are there other reasons that we might be missing why not raft up in Tobay?

Just asked my buddy who is a resident of Oyster bay. He said there is no anchoring at all allowed in Tobay.

The two restaurants are "singletons" and a Mexican (tent). Both are good pretty good. There's a waterpark the kids can use once you get in , he knows the dock master so maybe we can all go by dinghy.
