ny airshow zacks bay long island

There are tons of areas to drop the hook all along fi but theres no protection from anything. Very rocky while sleeping and then you have to worry about all the boozers hitting u in the middle of the night. There's really nothing seperating the channel and anchor areas.

Yeah, if you're referring to all these spots, then it's like being anchored in the middle of GSB.

Tell us where we can stay.

BTW, we need to look at the situation realistically. If we don't hear number of positive reports on safe navigation in the area, we can't go too far in the GSB either.

Alex, in some of the marinas you have to be a resident I can't even stay there, I wouldn't count on getting in anywhere unless your there a few days before Memorial Day and even then its almost impossible.

For the local GSB'ers, i was at my marina today and downed a few with the local Tow Boat guys... The Amityville cut is impassable, but the other north south cuts are ok

Wow Ron, that's how I usually get to Zachs bay, did they say how the state boat channel was?

That's the only "new" problem spot that Jimmy told me about.
He was optimistic that the channels would be ok by the time the season gets in full swing.
The current issue which will be around for a while is floating debris.
Rather then cutting up the damaged docks from people houses on the canals and putting them in dumpsters, people are pushing them into the canals behind their houses and having them drift away...

Sucks about the airshow.

I agree that we won't be able to get a slip on Fire Island. We've tried that. I looked on active captain though, and there appear to be a few anchorages that may work.

Alex you found all my spots lol just west of flyns is were I drop if there full. And it is horrible waiting for a slip there.

Amityville cut was my route as well when heading east. Guess I gotta find another way now.

Tminus 6 days till survey and sea triAl

im up for an anchorage @ FI as well after the air show

I'll be up for anchoring after the show as well.

Fair harbor looks like the most protected spot. Does anyone have local knowledge on it?

Just an FYI guys, I was talking with another member from my firehouse today who happens to be a sgt. with the NCPD Marine Bureau and he said there's LOTS of debris still kicking around the bay from Sandy......but I guess he was stating the obvious for us....

Were at fair harbour are you looking to go. Thats were my friends house is that I will be stayin at. You have to be very carfull over there. Very very low water just outside the markers. Point out the spot you are looking at on the map and ill let you know how the water is.

How's this spot, is there enough water? Is it me or do they actually claim 23' by the clam pond?

Sucks I am going to miss this show this year as we are foregoing the boat this year. :(:(. Take pics guys we will miss this for sure as this was one of the kids highlights last year with the F22 Raptor.

FYI... We stayed lastyear at the Blue Water Yacht Club in Merrick. We could see the show from there as well.

Definitely not 23', more like 2.3'.

What about their 4' mark, is that close to accurate or is the whole area very shallow?

That entire area is very shallow. And with sandys sand deposit I would stay away. The house I will be staying at is 2 houses west of the dunewood yacht club and just 2 blocks west of that has a beach and I can walk out almost a half mile in ankle deep water and thats just shy of were your arrows are. So I dunno I think I would count that area out but I never actually been in the water over there. There is a marina there ill try to get the nameand call them to see if its possible

Agreed, cross that area off your list.

Thanks for clarification, guys. Any recommendations where we can jump in for one night after Zach's?

Anything available here? I assume this is all no wake zone as the marinas all too close to the channel.

Alex that whole area is open to the bay. The ferries and boat traffic too, I can't imagine staying the night on the hook. I did a day trip near Barrett beach and we rocked like crazy with 5-6 boats anchored there. I'm not sure that's the place to anchor up.
