Now, before we let you vote, tell us, who are you voting for?

Ronald Reagan 1964 National Convention Speech.

After watching this, I felt like time has stood still. He could have made this same speech a month ago and just changed a few names and it would have been as relevant as it was in 1964.

It's amazing how people who would otherwise seem to be sensible and decent boat-loving next-door-neighbor types can show such sociopathic traits when they start talking politics. Best to watch out on behalf of not only campaign workers and your dogs but your children as well, with people like that driving around. Anybody with the sense they were born with can see what the past 8 years of republican administration have done to drive our great nation to the frontiers of underdevelopment to the benefit of our most dangerous enemies. It may be all in jest but it's hard to be flippant about our families' well-being. At least there is a viable way to change direction and the voters have the sense to put us on a new course come January
The past eight years have not done this, but it has attributed to it. This problem dates back to the days of the Carter Administration as indicated in tmhudson2's post. Lenders were forced to make housing loans available to those who were not able to afford a house in the first place, either due to questionable credit, unstable job history or no job history, and basically all around poor responsibility for ones own financial habits. There was a fall off during the Reagan years but then during the Clinton administration the problem resurfaced. Does everyone realize there are 5 million worthless mortgages who were given to illegal aliens? These persons didn't even need to provide social security numbers or verifiable income when they took on loans they knew they could not afford. Who do you think will pay for those? People like you and me who actually pay our bills and live within our finances. Under the new Bailout legislation, the government will be able to buy up all these worthless mortgages, forclosures and such, and renegotiate them at a fixed rate with reasonable interest rates or "what the homeowner will be able to afford". Homeowners who are borderline "getting by" can quit paying their current mortgage because they too will be saved by the bailout umbrella and the philosophy that no one will be forced out of their home by foreclosure. They simply have to wait about two years until the feds contact the homeowner, and renegotiate their current mortgage to one that is more suitable to what they can afford. This problem is not going to go away for a long time to come, and it didn't just start in the past eight years. I will give credit to the Democratic party because they are truly masters when it comes to putting blame on others for what they started and taking the heat off themselves. The republicans on the other hand did nothing when all the blame was put on the Bush administration for this crisis and Carter's or Clinton's administration were never mentioned. They just stood there and took it without a fight. You reap what you sow.

It is funny watching ya'll go *** for tat on who is to blame for our economy, foreign relations blah blah blah (sorry to blueeyedbotr for stealing material).

The fact is WE ALL LET IT HAPPEN...the highest levels of government right down to US as citizens. WE are to blame just as much...the average American has overextended themselves as a shadow of the government doing the same damn thing.

We allowed our government to take advantage of us as we took advantage of them.

I see no party lines, I see no specific blame. CLinton f'd up, Bush f'd up, the congress run by BOTH parties f'd up, we f'd up as a people.

TIme to stop looking back, and time to start figuring out where to go from here.

Official Announcement: in light of the 'bailout'

The federal government today announced that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed!

Damn, it just doesn't get more accurate than that.

billandamy, I couldn't agree more. It is a cluster f***. If the whole country isn't to blame, then well over half of it surely is, and I don't think that division follows party lines. We will all get through it, a little poorer and strategically weakened but it will be an interesting road ahead.

I know two Florida residents who were disenfranchised last week by registration problems that were the fault of the state election system. I can't think of many things that are more UnAmerican that disenfranchisement of voters.

Of course the idiot who made the comment above about his truck would probably think that's just fine.

Hey Turtle, we found your hood ornament.

Even dead, he's a better candidate than the two we now have. I wish there were a leader that could give a speech like that today. We need leaders, but we elect politicians. The process has become so dirty that good solid people that could fix what is wrong refuse to run. And I don't blame them.

He had a line in there about martyrs of the past and he said "...should Christ have refused the cross?..." Could you imagine the outcry if a candidate made that same comment now?

Bill - I agree with you to an extent. Many are to blame, but you can't put those of us who weren't tempted and decided to be responsible in with those who knowingly spent beyond their means - IMHO.

Hey Turtle, we found your hood ornament.

We can see that in CSR there is no shortage of idiots anxious to flap with their nonsense! Ah, but at least there are the sensible ones here as well.... not to mention about 54% of the electorate. 25 days and counting....

You should move to NYC. You'll fit right in. You and my hotdog guy can talk about free healthcare and how you're sticking it to the wealthy. Plus he'll give you a free hotdog if you can help him send money back to his country.

Ah, a good hot dog is always welcome. BTW, accessible health care is an investment in human capital, and free health care doesn't exist since somebody has to pay for it. It's a matter of how it is financed and distributed. It is always amazing to see people get charged up without even understanding the subject, just as they have knee-jerk reactions and misunderstanding about tax and investment issues. As a medical service provider who employees 80 full-time physicians and other staff, I have a very good sense of health care costs, insurance costs, effects of lack of access and related areas, and tax exposure; and having studied the proposed plans very well I know that crazy McCain, were he to have been a viable candidate, would have led to much higher costs for us. Anyway, I will have one of those hot dogs next time I am in NYC.

Im all for eliminating insurance all together in every form, with a few exceptions. :smt100

Haha... I love it... I feel like Merlin himself. My HR rep stared at me like the red headed stepchild when I told him that I had absolutely no interest at all in participating in the 401K plan. When he asked why, I told him that I had absolutely zero faith that our greedy government wouldn't change the rules on taxing 401K money as I withdrew it after retirement. I told him that I'd rather just go ahead and pay the tax up front so that I could control what happened to the rest of it myself.

So now here I sit on a fat chunk of cash while everything around me is getting cheaper and cheaper. If Nobama gets elected, I'll just pull it out of my various accounts and bury it in the proverbial coffee can safe and sound from any possibility of it getting redistributed to the hot dog lovers. When things start to go back up, I'll be back in the housing and stock markets for the ride up.

Meanwhile, gas has hit $3.09 in my neighborhood. Time to fill up the tank in the boat and help heat things up so everone that's losing their butts right now will have smaller heating bills this winter. Nice time to own a boat with a 496 (again).

Oh... and why is everyone all peod about insurance when we all know it is the bone headed lawyers that are the ones truly responsible for the outrageous cost of healthcare? Want affordable healthcare? Run over a few lawyers while you're at it Mike...

$2.69 a gallon now. About the same price as some Hebrew National hotdogs. I think I will get some hotdogs and top off the truck, again.

Exactly, I pay for it and he gets it for free...

See, here in this City of the handout, people learn how to milk it.

1) Before you come to the country, you find out from some relatives how the system works and where you need to go to maximize your profit.

2) Get an all cash job, that's the first thing you do. A relative will hook you up with that. Hotdog cart, taxi, Halal meat wagon.

3) because you have an all cash job, you only need to declare the minimum, which seems to be about $14k before a big red flag goes up. You look poor so the social welfare kicks in.

4) you work at that job while collecting your section 8 housing check that goes to the guy that hooked you up with that job. You buy your hotdogs with food stamps cause you would never eat that crap.

5) Once you've milked the section 8 housing thing dry. You've saved up the $5k to put down as a down payment on a house. You then rent out the other rooms in the house to new arrivals and collect their section 8 checks. See the great thing is you can be on social welfare and collect social welfare from others. So you live very cheap, get paid, work in a cash biz and pay no taxes.

6) Once you get the house, you then apply for as many credit cards as you can and one by one, run them up to the limit. Then apply for more.

7) here is where your free hot dog comes in, he's got to get the cash out of the country. He can't deposit it cause that will leave a trail. So he sends it back with family members that go home to visit and they bury it in the yard. I forgot to mention that you already bought that hotdog with your taxes.

8) Right now they have to go to the emergency room to get free health care and that's kind of a pain. They would like to not have to wait when he catches the flu. Obama will add that to his list of freebies.

9) So as he's milking the system for all the freebies, he's working and saving all his cash and shipping it overseas. When he's saved up enough to buy a house for cash in his home country, he slowly starts to default on all the borrowed money. He needs a big cash infusion to buy a couple of cars back home and knows that he can go several months defaulting on his mortgage and credit cards before they cut him off. He loads up his suit cases with levi's that he bought with the credit cards and cashes the checks and lets the mortgage foreclose.

10) arrives back home a wealthy man and lives happily ever after. The End

As someone who owned a landscaping company for years, and knew many other's , thats pretty spot on.

I dont now if they were doing all of those points, but the sending money home was definitely occurring.
