Boat is now out of storage. Go to do some work on it on Sunday. Notice that floorboard (the one that covers the gas tank) is a little squishy. Pull up that section (8 screws) and notice that there is moisture (not good, I know). Also notice that some one used duct tape to seal the gap between the gas tank and the cavity. My question is "should that tape have even been there?" I pulled it all out, as i don't see how any moisture can make its way to the bilge, leading to my rot problem.

Am in the process of fixing the floor. What else should i be checking at this point?

Thank you all for your responses.

I remember seeing duct tape used to seal that gap on my '93 230. I think that was standard practice at one time - perhaps to contain gas fumes. Don't know if they still do it. Anyway, its probably not related to your moisture intrusion.

MLauman,

Thank you for your reply! I'm not sure of the reason either. there was moisture trapped on the topside of the tank (in the air gap between the tank and the flooring). The underside of the flooring was starting to rot (most likely from the moisture).

I removed the tape and floorboard to let dry out, as well as repair floorboard. I will clean this whole area thoroughly, and make sure that there is free passage for any water that may seek it's way in to escape. the tank looks in good shape (no visible rust at this point).

I have tape (although not duct tape) around my black water holding tank. SR puts it there to ensure that during construction nothing sharp falls into the tight crevice around the tank. I plan to leave it there for the same reason.

On my old DA, SR put duct tape in the bilge by where the gas tanks edges were... I think the sureveyor told me this was to prevent any chafing based on movement or something along those lines. He said it was nothing to worry about if it had the tape or if it didn't...

the gap is approximately 1/2" between the tank and the fiberglass. There would have to be an aweful lot of movement for "chaffing".

thank you for your input!

have you splashed yet? The water level looks pretty good from what I've seen so far.
