Does anyone know where I can get a handset replacement for a Northstar NS 100?

I bid on one recently and it went for more than a new VHF. I repaired mine but will replace it soon

I am at a point that I found a new one on ebay - the entire thing. Was going to buy it just for the handset. Realize that new in the day they cost $199. This one ended up going for almost $700. I should have bought a truck load in 2007 and made a hefty sum.

If we only knew, a skid of those microwave carafes would have a better rate of return than gold, too.

I have the pos nc100 that hasn't quite crapped out yet. With the difficulty of finding replacements, Poor quality, etc why not just replace it with a better quality unit? Is it very hard to replace, too much $? Just saying if the unit is going for $ 500 plus just get something new and replace. Maybe I'm missing something....

I was hoping to use my ns100 speaker as an extension with a new unit. If not , then install an extra stereo speaker in the whole after a little alteration?

The problem I have, and probably we all have, is that there are not many replacement radios that have the remote speaker, and black box. If I went with a conventional radio, there would be a gaping hole that would need to be dealt with where the speaker now resides. The other issue is where do I put it? There is no space that isn't used in order to flush mount the unit, and a surface mount unit would look like crap.

Garmin makes a unit that is similar, but it is very expensive at $800-$1000 depending on which one you purchase.

I went with the Raymarine 240. I had to make a trim ring for the speaker since it was a little smaller than the NS speaker. This is the radio Sea Ray now uses.

I am in the same boat, I want to replace my North Star but with what? Any one out there have any ideals?

Scott I broke the pins on the handset and no one could repair it. So I cut the plug off and hardwired it myself. So it is easy to find out which wires are the audio out.

Your handset is busted or the pins that it goes into on the dash?

If you have a chance, could you post a picture of the trim ring you made? This might be an option for a replacement radio when the NS eventually (which it will, guaranteed) fail....

It appears that the Raymarine 240 is discontinued too......the current model is the 260 but it is not much less than the Garmin at $699

I no longer have the part but was easy to fabricate. Just a square the shape of the speaker assembly. I used that white material (waterproof & comes in a sheet) from West Marine that is about 3/16" thick painted gray to match the speaker. The NS100 speaker opening is about 1/2" larger so that is why the trim is needed for the RayMarine unit.
